  • This show was one of the reasons why I got ecstatic about math back in the day!

  • I like their little wheels! Neat!

  • cynthia is hot. i had a crush on her

  • a t-shirt and a sweater? HAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • wait all you get is a t-shirt or a swaeter?

  • Wow, a sweater. I bet she got teased at school for wearing a Square one Sweater.

  • the hostess kinda sounds like shari lewis a little

  • @IceManNJD Her Name is Cynthia Darlo.

  • @AaronBruceLadner well, i meant her voice sounds like shari lewis a bit

  • And they say boys are better at math. Psh! That kid couldn't triangulate his way out of a wet paper bag

  • @unclesamandy hahaha

  • You can tell that the lights on the board are just run by a person flipping switches manually.

  • at 2:02 she has my accent, HA HA HA

  • man, tv used to be intelligent, wth happened

  • I'd buy it also.

  • I wish they'd release every season of Square One TV on DVD. I'd buy it.

  • I'm curious. Which season of Square one is this from?

  • Hey tiradorfranco2, do you have Square One Squares? I'd love to see that again.

  • I always liked this show, unfortuneately, I never learned anything from it. I sure wish I did. I also wish shows were made like this today.

  • I once heard that this one kid was so nervous he was clutching the triangle humps very tightly and he wound open breaking them because he was pressing so hard due to his nervousness that they broke.

Heck man, I'd have probably wound up doing the same thing. Why clutch them? The heat from the neon lamps under the triangles actually feels good on the cold clammy hands.

  • Purple???

That looks like blue or at least indigo to me

  • Liz: 6-1=5

  • wait -- the BIG prize is a sweater??? and the runner-up gets a t-shirt??? great game show - used to love square one, but come on, a sweater???

  • @gohelio Yeah the only PBS show I can remember offering real prizes was Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego

  • Are there any games like this on kids' shows anymore? Didn't think so. Why not? Are they afraid the kids might learn something AND enjoy themselves?

  • @amt253 Yeah, they need stuff like this again. Beats the hell out of Dora the Explorer. Slightly different demographic, I know. Dora is the flagship show of an entire era of non-outstanding children's television though. Helena Rubinstein would be angry.

  • Well, at the time I watched the show I would've liked a shirt or sweater. I really wanted a watch though.

  • All they get is shirts thats it nothing better ?

  • Are there any more of these?

  • The kid should of blocked her at the end. He probably would of won.

  • that announcer sounds like she's talking to 2 year olds

  • I'd rather have the t-shirt.

  • A square one sweater...they shouldn't have tempted the kids so much to cheat.

  • "I love the girl's expression when Cynthia tells her what she's won."

    THANKS FOR RUINING IT!!!

  • A freakin' sweater? I'd be pissed!

  • wow, talk about memories

  • Ryan should have done 7+3=10 as a defensive play.

  • Ryan, you chicken!

  • I think of it as a comibination of Wheel of Fortune and Blockbusters.

  • liz spins the 2 wheels and gets 8 and square one tv

    Liz: 8-1=7

  • oy, ryan shoulda used the 5x10 for 50 @ 3:15 not only would he have been 2 thirds of the way to a triangle he would've been able to block liz.

  • Sweater? Wtf prize is that for a kid?

  • Remember, this was PBS. CTW couldn't exactly afford to give away cash and video game systems and the like. They had to rely on companies to fund their shows. A sweater was cheap.

  • $50 was cheap enough for kids game shows back then. They could've given cash to the winner, and the sweater to both players just for showing up. They don't need companies to give away cash.

  • Carmen Sandiego was on PBS palmer, they were able to give away NOT ONLY a sweater- but a hat, a globe, and CD-ROMs.

$50 was enough to give away a portable CD player.

  • 50 bucks with a CD player circa 1988?!?!?! Not only were CD players that size not around yet, but they were still VERY expensive.

  • It's probably a collector's item, now, if it hasn't been worn.

It'd have more resale value, now, as compared to, say, a Walkman.

  • well spin those wheels haha

  • oh my god, the girl's accent is a f'in caricature!

  • I Loved Square One Television On PBS....

  • a square one sweater... haha. i remember this stuff!!

  • Marbles471, for me that was a big mystery, and it now has been solved. Thanx.

  • That kid had a 1 and a 10, he could have, or at least not lost.

  • God this brings back memories! i knew of this being on square one tv but i just couldn'rt remember the title. ...and what was the woman in the yellow skirts' name...wasn't it Viccki?

  • It was Cynthia.

  • Jake Is Purple

Jake Lands On 7 and 9

    Jake: 9-7=2

  • i hope that kid didn't sell her sweater, she would almost definitely get AT LEAST several hundred dollars for it now if she sold it on ebay.

  • in fact they would probably both get a pretty good amount of money for it.

  • what a shitty prize

  • it really is. Even for PBS A SWEATER?!

  • and i think you're forgetting "the $500,000 trapezoid"

  • she got lucky with that

  • lol a sweater

  • haha see kids all math gets you is a damn sweater.

  • These companies were cheapskates back then. Why not give money to the winner and the sweaters/t-shirts to both players just for showing up?

  • seriously! thats all they could giver her was a stupid sweater!?! what a rip off

  • So what? It's a great prize!! Get over it!!

  • Let's see...Cynthia had Triple Play, Larry had "But Who's Counting?", Chris had "Piece of the Pie" and later Beverly took it over. So that means Arthur, Reg and Louisa never had their own game shows, unless I'm forgetting about any. (It's been ages)

  • Actually, Larry had "Square One Challenge" and Arthur had "But Who's Counting?"

  • I know there was an earlier version and then a later version of "But Who's Counting", and that they were completely different from each other. I'm rusty, but if I remember right, originally it was another game show that had real kids on it, but was later changed to just having the other cast members play guests. And I thought Larry was the original host of it, but like I said, I'm rusty. It's been ages.

And I totally forgot about "Square One Challenge"!

  • Arthur also had Close Call during the first season, and was later replaced by Louisa & Reg who was basically the announcer on all Square One TV game shows

  • Reg and Louisa did "Close Call" during Season 4. Arthur also did Close Call in Season 2.

  • I don't remember it, but I'm sure I would if I saw it again.

  • i love this!

  • wow

    what brutal prizes . . . a sweater over a t-shirt?

  • I think later they changed it to a jacket over a sweater.

  • Oh, that's much better :-)

  • She wiped the smile right off her face as soon as she heard "sweater", didn't she?

  • wow

that girl has terrible hair . . . even for the 80's :-)

  • I remember this game format too!

  • LOL... I remember this sketch. XD;;

  • If I was Ryan, I'd multiply 5 and 10 (and later add 3 and 7) to make it harder for Cynthia to form her equilateral triangle.

  • I agree with you completely.

  • Triple Play! Cool!! My favorite game show!

I hope you can upload Piece of the pie!

  • PBS Kids' game shows and game show parodies were so much fun!

  • oh, i didn't see that. Lol

  • I haven't seen this in ages. If anyone has any more Triple Plays, please post them!

  • Oh yay! Triple Play! This was my favorite game show!

  • come on doesnt liz look like the host lol, i say it was staged lol im just kidding please dont be mad at me im only joking
