1530 I believe? Interesting that the oldest styles were very hard styles. I would argue that this is because it was during the Muromachi period - A time of war. Some of those techniques are similar to Judo or even Greco.
I speculate on whether more recent soft styles; Aikijutsu were ever really combat tested. Since they were developed in a time of peace.
Actually aikijujutsu was supposedly created by Minamoto no Yoshimitsu. He probably employed it during the Gosannen War in whic he fought. It was also passed down through the ages when Nobuyoshi took the name Takeda. It was passed down through the Takeda clan, used during the Segoku Jidai, and was probably refined a bit more for peace time during the Edo Period. It definitly had more than a few trials by fire. And it's much more rough and tumble than aikido. Got the bruises to prove it.
