I disapprove of the belittling and alienation of deformed people, but in a way, this was the only way they could get money. They really had to options: join sideshows and get to travel and earn money or be locked up and forgotten. I've heard of many "freaks" becoming very wealthy because of the business.

The 'Freaks' as they where called are inspiring human beings.

I have a particular fascination with the 'Pinheads', Shlitze, Pip & Flip.

I am an art student and am currently working on an 'identity; project and am very tempted to base my work on 'Freaks', as I feel these peoples identities where usually seen as nothing more then their deformity or disability. And there was much more to them than that.

@MushroomMai Thanks for watching. Freaks or just another example of the American Dream. Taking something that many see as a handicap and making somehting out of it. It's intersting on the one hand it's ok to rent yourself out as a wage slave to make a living and giving up your self control But if you exploit your body for your own personal gain then you are looked down on (freaks) or made into a crimminal (prostitutes). It's all exploitation after all isn't it?

@freacls thats different children are made to believe that they have to do it even when the parents say they dont have to. children feel they have to do that. they cant make smart decisions on their own which is why beauty pageants for children is wrong in my opinion. the children cant think for themselves

Just wanted to comment on the info. The men depicted in the video calling people over to see the freaks are not barkers, but Talkers. A barker is a person who calls you over to play game and says the same thing over and over again like " $1 gets you two shots to sink the ball in the hoop." A Talker is a person who has refined their craft and is a artist with words who can draw people in. A Talker would also be better paid and would be more respected by the company.

I'm interested in 'Freak Shows', but not if they're against the performer's will. I think it is pretty bad that they are paraded around and called 'freaks' just because they are different. When it comes down to it all, everyone is the same. We all need the same functions to live: Food, water, shelter, and love.
