  • ...a band fronted by three cavorting Finnish women shaking their rear ends at the audience should sound kind of bad...but it largely doesn't...

  • Great performance. On a shallow note, the hotness of the clarinet player manages to distract nicely from the camel-toe on the left :)

  • I remember, wheb Värttinä came in Brussels, at the "Ancienne Belgique", they tried to make the audience singing. Of course, the reaction was very shy. And Mari Kaasinen said "How is this possible ? Finnish is yet such an easy language!" :o)))

  • @vincentjacque :D

And I thought that in Belgium they had it always like in Dranouter 2008:

    watch?v=aLUw_omR2ok

Despite the poor sound quality it seems that both the band and the audience are just rocking!

  • Ai niin...now I understand what should that circling of hands over head mean :) skvelý preklad :))

  • id fuck the one in red

  • this is a great video! a nice performance!

  • PS I just love that kind-of Charlie's Angels pose at the end.

  • Excellent! Out of interest, as commenters have asked, this is a "girl power" song about a wife who finally tells her unfaithful husband to get lost and chases him away with a leather whip (a "nahkaruoska"). The sound "vivivivivivivi" = "whackwhackwhack"!

  • @topsamite Excellent. It's a shame that there is such a lot of wives who wouldn't do so today.

  • Johanna Virtanen rocks ! >:D

  • rankka nimi näinkin hilpeälle biisille.

  • Entirely acoustic and with all this expression... Fantastic this can exist this day today!

  • Onpas rankka nimi näin hilpeälle biisille. :P

  • beautiful harmony !!:)

    greetings from italy ;)

  • This has become one of my favorite Värttinä songs. I love the message contained and their stage presence is just amazing.

  • hieno kappale

  • Hail Finland! Many greetings from Hungary! Next year I'll visit that beautiful country!!!

  • Well, I just want to learn by heart piece of that song. So, could you write me 1:18 to 1:40 what they sing? Please write me in Finish. Thanks a lot Suomi.

  • Vaimo viekas ja vihainen, viekas ja vihainen

    äkkiouto ärhenteli, outo ärhenteli

Ei oo aittahan assiita, aittahan assiita

    vällyn alle vänkäämistä, vällyyn vänkäämistä

    Tuolla ruoska roiskuaapi, nahkaruoskaa roiskuaa

siellä vitsaa vinguttapi, vivi vivi vivi vivi vinguttaa

    Tuolla ruoska roiskuaapi, nahkaruoskaa roiskuaa

siellä vitsaa vinguttapi, vivi vivi vivi vivi vinguttaa

  • And what does this means? Could you write it down in english, please :)

  • Hard to translate. Ancient and difficult finnish words and expressions. Starts with "An angry shrewd wife" being in the wrong mood, I guess, saying NO to a man thats trying to get under her blanket! Then there´s lines about a "leather whip" that I dont understand either. Dont worry, I´m a Finn myself and even I dont understand what the hell is going on in the lyric! But I bet its something worth expressing!

  • Here is used "old finnish" So it may be a bit hard to understand :), but i love värttinä

  • Very nice. Checking out the lyrics: this is a "girl power" song. It's about a wife whose husband is philandering, going through all the farm girls in town. She decides it's got to stop, so kicks him out, sending him on his way with a leather whip "Nahkaruoska" and hitting him with a cane ("vivi" = "whack"). I just love that Charlie's Angels pose at the end.

  • I have had this song in my head all bloody day...great song until you end up singing "vivivivivivivivi vinguttaa" while you are trying to go to sleep.... I suppose it doesn't help that I am now watching the video....oh well.

  • Oh god what does Nahkaruoska mean?

  • leatherwhip.

    bit kinky ey!

  • Ok Mannerheim translate me 2:10 - 2:40 please :)

  • who fuckin mannerheim you cheeky polak.

    anyways, its something like:

    made a badman become better

    leatherwhip splashes.

    alright

  • What did you write?! Mannerhein was you leader your reason to be pround. I like II WW and I think that I know better Finnish-Russian war than you, I know that you lost one soldier for more than 10 Russian's, I know that you hunted them at night, you have walked with skies and also you thrashed them under "Ladoga lake" when clouds has fallen. Telling "Mannerhein" I wanted to give you compliment, and it wasn't polite when you called my "cheeky". You must be very nice, I suppose.

  • wow u really know your war-stuff.

    But I´m not Mannerheim.

cheeky meaning mouthy, as in calling somebody with somebody elses name.

u supposed right, i am very nice.

    enjoy Värttinä, they´re amazing!

  • Who cares about wars we must care about peace.

  • The Leather Whip

  • no two this band and metal(Y)

  • hát akkor most írjunk magyarul is! xD

    Jó szám! Nekem tetszik ;)

  • I love this song and the lyrics. Actually, this was the first Värttinä song I ever heard. I understand the lyrics perfectly. <3 Awesome!

  • jsou psycho no :)

  • Varttina is the world's greatest band (IMHO)

They never cease to amaze and invigorate me.

  • they put a GURR

    in my

    Mirror

  • Värttinä would be a reason to learn that difficult but beautiful language Finnish!

  • That might not help. I'm a Finn and i still have trouble understanding the lyrics.

  • does anyone know where to get the songtexts?

  • USE THE FUCKING GOOGLE!!!!

search: Nahkaruoska lyrics => first rank in Google is relevate answer!!!!!

  • @pidzej78 isn't...

  • Hey - this song is exclusively remixed in my new FREE mixtape thing on Daly City Records - it's STUPENDOUS.

It is a full-length musical feast featuring me, Th' Mole, as well as exclusive "thrash-ups" by DJ 0.000001, featuring Too Short, Rush, DJ Shadow, Skream, Danny Elfman, VARTTINA!! and many more.

Download it at the Daly City Records Blog! (Search for "whirled fusion".)

  • sooo good i really luv this song!!!XD

  • Tuolla ruoska roiskuaapi, nahkaruoskaa roiskuaa

siellä vitsaa vinguttapi, vivi vivi vivi vivi vinguttaa

  • i wish they'd come to America more. Great music

  • This is one of my favorite songs ^^

  • Värttinä euroviisuihin nii pärjättäis paremmin kuin joku teräsbetoni

  • I love this..love love love..

  • eurovision?jesus....I think they deserve something better than that

  • They should be put on Eurovision songcontest.

  • missä tää on kuvattu?

  • I am from England and as such I cannot speak or understand Finnish without a translation site for the language or for song lyrics. But even so, Varttina sound very good.

  • Do you know that in Värttinä's homepage there are translations and lyrics of every song? :)

  • Kitos, I was looking for that as I enjoy their music immensely.

  • Helló!

  • This is the best their song-I love it.

  • Värttinä on aivan paras.

  • Nice I saw that in Slovakia very very good

  • I love these crazy women:)Very Good song! I wish I could see them in Hungary in summer.

  • Nahkaruoska = Leatherwhip

  • That's a nice English translation :D I'm from Poland so I can also slightly understand the Czech lyrics that pidzej78 featured here :D

  • Part IV

    Donutila zlého muže, donutila muže

    vyhnala neslušného, neslušného pryč

    Donutila zlého muže, donutila muže

    vyhnala neslušného, neslušného pryč.

  • Part III

a rákoska sviští, vivi vivi vivi vivi sviští

  • Part II

Manželka chytrá a rozzlobená, chytrá a rozzlobená

hned se strašně rozzlobila, strašně rozzlobila

Nedostaneš se do komory, do komory

nepustím tě pod peřinu, pod peřinu

Teď tam bič práská, kožený bič práská

a rákoska sviští, vivi vivi vivi vivi sviští

  • So, here is lyrics in Czech Language, sorry, but my English is terrible, so it will be the best translate it by somebody who is able to translate it: Part I KOŽENÝ BIČ Všimli si, že muž chodí, všimli si že muž všimli si, že muž chodí za cizími Chodí spát do cizího domu, chodí spát jiné tam svádí, svádí Týden strávil u cizích, týden u cizích dlouho daleko od domova, daleko od domova Ženy střídal, střídal S děvečkami se muchlal, muchlal
