Actually, that is the VSA in action. It brakes the wheel that's slipping, so you drive straight and not all zig-zaggy. As others mentioned, it's a MUST to turn it off when you're trying to rock out of a snow pile or getting pushed out.
That is traction control. The VSA Off button turns off both Traction control and Stability Control. Stability control is for corners and Traction control helps you get going when stuck on ice. They both use ABS and reduced engine power, so both systems are related. The Stability assist detects G force and can actually control ABS on each tire to prevent loss of control.
Bro, that's not VSA, that's ABS... VSA kicks in when you change the vehicle's direction, not acceleration rate. Although the VSA system does use the ABS pump. I own a CR-V and have tested it. Surprisingly, it works very well in emergency situations (dry/wet surfaces).
@mjk5004 no its TCS not VSA or ABS, ABS is for braking, hence the name Anti-Lock Braking System. What you said about VSA is right, but the one being used here is TCS or the Traction Control System
Actually, disregard what i said, it is VSA, Honda's VSA works with Traction Control System, ABS System and Electronic Brake Distribution System. Therefore, technically it is VSA
I had a 2008 Accord for the day last month and because of the traction control I almost got stuck in my driveway! It was a pathetic scene! My 2007 civic blasted out of the same spot even with an additional FOOT OF SNOW! An on/off switch is essential. Some people actually need this crap because they have no idea how to drive.
That's why there's a VSA on/off switch. I've had to turn it off going through about 10 inches of snow up a driveway - but once you turn if off, you have full engine power. Just helps gain a bit of traction when you're too lead-footed driving in snow/ice/etc.
CR-V 07 and up have VSA standard?

Not getting into any of the technical speak, it just was a demo of hitting that little VSA button and showing what it does :)

Understood... Thanks for the vid!

The VSA switch must have been broken in the Accord I had that day.

@adsabine1 the 08 accords have a traction/VSA on and off button. i work at a honda dealer...

is VSA then, really necessary on tropical countries? Like Caribbean for example? My mom's CR-V full 4x4 didn't bring it.
racsito39 3 years ago
I'd think it'd help if you're driving in sand, maybe cornering in wet weather...
Fdisk78 3 years ago
wow, awesome demo. How is it on cornering?
CasterTown 3 years ago
We'll put it this way - saved me a few times on off-ramps, and a few more times around corners in the winter... :)

Just cuts the engine power/works with ABS when wheel slip is detected
Fdisk78 4 years ago
does the vehicle go any slower when the vsa is activated?
Gplayerz 4 years ago
it will accelerate better since traction control helps it get off the line with minimal slip
