I always wondered what closing down a huge base like that would entail. I remember reading a vets recollection about landing temporarily at Da Nang ( in 1972?) when it was manned by a skeleton crew that was wrapping things up. He said that a lot of the base had already been cannibalized by locals who had ripped-out sinks and toilets. He also told on how they actually spent the night in the abandoned hospital ward and could still see bloodstains on the floor.
