  • If this families were force for evacuation due to the treat of building deficiency. The Gov. should provide a relocation for these people and provide a financial assistant for their remaining mortgage.

  • Just sad that this shows the poor quality of workmanship that actually happens in this town. The tradesmen that were involved in building these buildings have nothing to flaunt about that's for sure, ya we can blame engineers and designers but as tradesmen we have to take a stand and ask is this right, remember most engineers are the ppl that can't cut a straight line or build something square. As for who should pay , the condo board is ultimately responsible, for not addressing these deficien

  • @tcramm2003, had it not been for foresight of the condo board, the lawsuit would not have been already 4 years progressed. The condo board at Penhorwood have gone over and above their call of duty to give the onwers of these condos a fighting chance of having their homes fixed at the expense of those who where in the wrong.

  • @Jenne - You are mis-informed....Obviously, the permits were pulled and inspections performed when the building was built and were signed off as completed because AT THAT TIME, there were no deficiencies. The problems started after.

The "Condo Board" were aware of problems 7 years ago and FAILED to fix them...Not the city....They collected the owners money, and then what.....nothing....

The tenants should be first going after their own appointed Condo Board...They are the source, not the city.

  • @jojobinks505... Listen you turd-burner, have you even read the legal coorespondance which has been published on the condo corporation's homepage?!? Don't bother answering because your posts prove you have not. You're doing your reputation a dis-service by posting comments that make absolutely no sense. Fact, bldg deficienices were identified at the start of construction and the pictures showing the lack of fire-stopping prove that. Maybe do your homework before you post next time.

  • FortMacDude...I am pretty sure you would feel differently if it were YOUR building that had been evacuated and YOU were out the $300,000 odd dollars and all YOUR stuff was stuck in there!!! Pretty SURE you would want the people who SCREWED up their JOB to FIX IT!!!!

  • I feel bad but I don't want ONE Fucking PENNY of my my municipal taxes to pay your mortgages off....sue if you have to..but don't expect taxpayers to bail you out!

  • @FortMacDude

    A typical reaction from a self-centered, ignorant point-of-view.

  • Jojobinks -- A responsible Municipality would NOT allow a building, or buildings in this case, to be occupied by residents without first ensuring that every required permit and inspection was completed (right from drawings to final approval for occupancy). Therefore, the municipality failed its citizens by allowing innocent ppl to occupy unsafe dwellings. To make matters worse, 7 years of complaints went ignored. This is both a public AND private issue and it cannot be segregated.

  • I look back on my earliest comment about Heidi Major--does no one have an opinion on this situation? I actually think it could seem like a far-fetched, fabricated "story" since what occurred was completely ridiculous. I can assure you, though, that what I said did happen and it is true.

  • It is not the city's responsibility to provide aid in such a circumstance as this...This IS what insurance is for. This is in no way the fault of the city. Much like a house fire, flood, etc, etc....

While myself along with all McMurray residents feel for the situation of the residents, the city cannot just throw money at a private problem....Especially given that they are currently fighting a lawsuit from the very residents now looking for a hand out....

  • @jojobinks505

Insurance does not cover this type of situation and who do you think the inspectors that passed these bulidings for for!!

  • @jojobinks505

Yet another selfish opinion--what makes you people so bitter? Inadvertently or not, you have implied that you do not think anyone in your community is deserving of anything but a little pity. Not important enough to spend a little tax-dollars on, though.

  • I rented one of these apartments and was evacuated along with the other residents.

I phoned around the city and parliment for help. When I happened along Heidi Major's number, I gave her a call. I was asked if I had tenant's insurance, to which I replied "No". Heidi then laughed and said "Well, I guess you will next time!".

  • @launchpaad88

Regardless of whether insurance is paying for the damages or not, I experienced this extremely selfish and inconsiderate behavior. I wonder if Heidi still thinks this situation is comical.

  • MLA Guy Boutilier is attempting to get the government to assist. The scope of this is outside current aid programs, however, they have stated they plan to help families until the courts and litigation is finished with. This is not ideal, hopefully the government will promise long-term support throughout the entire litigation, not just "plan".
