  • Advertising lightening cream is a horrible thing to do. It encourages racism and it's not even true that lighter skin is more attractive anyway!

  • @BreachedWall There is a difference between lightening/brightening creams and skin bleaching. Lightening/brightening creams even your skin tone (ie. fade sun damage). Skin bleaching actually changes your skintone. And it does not encourage racism. Cultures around the world don't lighten their skin so they can look white. They lighten it because it is a status symbol and it is their culture's epitome of beauty. To each their own.

  • @aaronpaul06 They can do what they like, but the lightening part is totally unnecessary and simply perpetuates insecurity amongst hundreds of millions of dark skinned Indians. The problem with society today is this obsession with physical beauty formed by an over-arching generalised culture that is too shallow to look deeper than that. It is the reason why I have met plenty of women who feel awful about themselves all the time just because they have darker skin or are slightly heavy.

  • @aaronpaul06 And I know for a fact that there is plenty of racism (or more specifically, colourism) going on in India. Some of my aunties etc were humiliated when they were kids because they were dark skinned. How awful must it be for a young girls self esteem when she is growing up to be told how ugly she is because she is dark skinned?

And what about movies? How often are dark skinned characters portrayed as villains?
