  • i seen him many times in Branson we miss you box

  • If I were in that theater I'd be the only one standing up clappin' my hands to the beat, amongst all them old folks. You'd think they were already dead!

  • Had alot of fun on his mid-night show, once with Tony Orlando and once with the Kendalls. Boxcar Willie was a Real nice guy.

  • No one but no one can do a train whistle like box. You're missed sir. Thank you for posting this.

  • Willie; How about making me your friend on You Tube. God Bless M.S.C.1

  • AMERICA'S FAVORITE HOBO AND AN ALL TIME MUSIC LEGEND

  • Boxcar Willie ROCKS!!!!

  • Wonderfull

  • 20 years ago I was a kid spending all his spare times with his daddy in the truck, listening all these ol' country songs (Boxcar, Merle, Charlie...)

Now I'm 38 and that's probably the best times I ever had with my father. He was a man of few words, worked hard all his damn life but he was always there when we needed him. He liked Boxcar's songs a lot and that's why today, feeling a li'l nostalgic, I decided to go back into memories and found this clip on YT. Dad you're my hero...

  • Incredible voice!

  • Oh my gosh, is HE making those train noises?? WOW!

  • @DeafTuber Yes he is, an amazing entertainer indeed.

  • @DammitDrag Thats why he got his nickname Boxcar Willie for. Because he spent to much times around trains lol

  • @Patrioticman Absolutely, Boxcar used to hobo quite a bit.

  • @DeafTuber yes he is making all those train noises

  • HARLAND!! good to see you again old friend, hope you are behaving up there, will be seeing you again some day, god bless you

  • Boxcar Willie was a Living LEGEND in HIS own time, while he was alive. More importantly, Willie is Still a Legend, even in death. I remember my brother, when he was alive, playing his Dobrough guitar and singing the "Walbash Cannonball". This is what great memories are made of. However, there are those that do not have the depth of understanding, to listen, and hear that Willie's songs told of his life, as a hobo, while traveling on boxcars' throughout his life.

  • Now... this is really music from the heart..... good ol tyme music that does not have a social message that people are suppose to subscribe to... thanks to YouTube these tunes are available around the world...... Bravo YouTube

  • My mom remembers him hanging around downtown Red Oak, Texas when she was a girl. He used to give her a hard time. He was from Ovilla, Texas which about 4 miles west of Red Oak. The railroad ran through Red Oak and Sterrett. He would catch the train in Sterrett and ride into Red Oak.

  • WHERE THE HELL IS BRANSUME MONTANA?

  • He used to be a hobo for a train. Thats how he got famouse.

  • This was one of the best shows in Branson. It's good to see Harland Powell playing steel again. It's been a long time.

  • Great there will never be another like him (GREAT)

  • I remember going to his shows a lot as a child towards the later years of his career in Branson Missouri. He always put on an amazing show and he was one of the nicest people you could ever speak with. He was truly one of America's greatest entertainers.

  • just got my 1st Boxcar CD love it

  • Still a awesome spirit!

  • He was one of my favorite C&W stars. I remember when I saw him on German TV in the 70s. Thank you for the music hobo.

  • I used to drive the skinny dog for a job in oz for 7 years and i had a great collection of C&W songs but i have to tell you all the passengers loved BOXCAR WILLIE and so many people were converted to his music.

  • I can't believe it, I just bought Boxcar's Gibson J-45 that he used on stage and TV and also the Grand Ole Opry. I also got 2 of his hats complete with all the pins in them. Also his guitar case with all the railroad stickers, One of his railroad costumes that he used on TV and stage. I got it from his son Larry. I can't tell ya how thrilled I am.My 12 year old son is also thrilled, knowing that someday it will be his, as well it should, he plays way better than I do!!LOL

  • i never knew how GOOD this guy was till i saw this!!!

  • Man what a hell of a singer! That voice can send chills down your spine!

  • Hi,they definitely threw away the mould of ole Boxcar, his like will never be heard again in Country Music, didn't appreciate him until I heard Winds Of Yesterday.

Seen him on Country's Family Reunion on tv live many times, also a lovely person.

I just love the tone of his voice, exceptional singer, fabulous musicians.

Thankful we have youtube to see and hear him still.

    Thank you Marcus.

  • A wonderful trip back to my youth. No diesel trains they were all steam. Being a child of the thirties I would love to hear him sing "The Freight Train Blues." It was a big Acuff number but I can just imagine Willie doing it. Thanks for the remarkable video.

  • One of the best of all time!!!!

    Thank you Marcus for sending.

  • Country Music sure lost a legend when ole Box left us. Country Music has been replaced by country metal for the most part and I sure do miss turning on the radio and hearing a new, "True", country song with standard chord arrangements in it. R.I.P. BOX, C.W.

  • @harleyhawgn This IS country METAL! Don't you hear the steel in that Guitar, and that Train Whistle is BAD ASS! I want that on an MP3 hooked into A PA under the hood on my truck! I Think it might command A little bit of respect. People would be looking around wondering if they're about to get the cow catcher!

  • I LOVE ALL THE SONG THAT BOX CAR WILLIE DOES HE IS MY FAVORITE

  • he's actually a reptilian shapeshifter humanoid! alex jones told me this!

  • God Bless Boxcar Willie

  • Nothing compares to that train "whistle"...add the fiddle work, and who can't like it!!! Wish we had some new artists that could perform at the same level as some of the old! He is right he will be remembered for that "whistle", the one that can put goose bumps on your skin!

  • Nothing compares to that train "whistle"...add the fiddle work, and who can't like it!!! Wish we had some new artists that could perform at the same level as some of the old!

  • Wonderful thanks for posting. Old Box was very very popular in England in the 70's and 80's probably bigger over here than in the U.S

  • it appears that he really enjoyed performing , looks like he is with his friends.

  • genuine country ¡¡¡¡

  • when i hear this song,i imagine being out in the country living in a house with 1 of those porches that went around the whole house, and its always summer,is in the night, you got fried chicken cooking in 1 of those black skillets, mashed pototes, brown gravey, fried green tomatoes,a big mason jar of sweet iced tea,and with about 30 or more kinfolks, you live right by the railroad tracks here comes the train screamming down the tracks, with black smoke just flying out of her.

  • @skyangel1100 Did you do a lot of acid when you were younger?

  • @Burnwash no i did not.but the reason this is posted,is so people can comment how a song makes them feel, just because you may not feel a certain way about a song dont mean i should not, that is what music is all about,it makes diffrent people feel diffrent ways, and 2 be truthful with you, when i feel low it helps 2 listen 2 songs that i heard as a child, and when i made the comment,i was feeling low because next mouth will be 9 years since my 12 year old daughter died, she died on thansgiving day

  • Comment removed

  • @Burnwash and i heard this song and it made things a little better 4 me,now i dont give a fat rats ass if you understand that or not,and another thing unless i missed it,the only comment i see here from you,is the1 you have up bashing my comment, why dont you comment the song, and the singer?

  • @skyangel1100 well unless you time travel back to the 50s to virginia i hate to say its hard to do that sadly all we see now is the boxcars with cabs and motors known as a diesel there are some locomotives runnning like southern pacific lines 4449 pere marquette 1225 "the polar express" and nikel plate road 765 and some other random ones but not that much are running :(

  • Love ole boxcar! He always will be in my heart, one of the best-RIP~!

  • We saw Boxcare Willie at Branson shortly before he passed away. One of the best shows we have seen over the years. Even the teen age girls we had along like it!

  • non-commercial --- just plain good music.....he will always be missed.

  • Its sad that so many young people are getting mixed into rap and garbage music. Rap is ok to a degree but I hate most of it. Im 19 years old and this is true music to me. Music made by a real artist not some idiot that yells how mad he is. This is class and I love good old country music. Plus some rock music on the side is ok.

  • @penprop01 you're reading my mind. i'm 14 :P

  • My new account and i still feel the same way :]

  • @penprop01 Its music that dares you not to be happy hearing it.No violence, sexism, drugs, whores or pimps.

  • @penprop01 Well I am impressed by your comment. if you were my son I would be a very proud parent. I find that a lot of Teenagers do not really know what true music is and also the meaning of the words too.

    Good for you Son,

    Art

  • Once I heard a song of Boxcar Willie. If I'm not going wrong it was called Caribean.I wish to hear it again pls.It was very nice.

  • This song makes me proud to be an American.....

  • "Poetry in motion " is this guy .Unforgetable steam trains lover .

  • love it ...brilliant....thanks my cowboy c.w.

  • what a legend!,helllo from Ireland

  • God Bless America go Willie

  • I was just in Branson this week and it just wasn't the same without him :(..... Although I met this guy @ RFD Theatre who does Boxcar's train whistle! At first I thought I heard a ghost LOL......

Stayed at the hotel bearing his name and they really do try to keep it the way he wanted.

A side-note a nice carved statue of him can be found at the Plantation restaurant, just inside the door! Must see... He used to ride The Branson Scenic Railroad once in a while and sing for them!! RIP my hero!

  • never got to see him...Man I missed out on a great man

  • He was one of the great old country artists this video is a gem.

  • that's real good

  • Im a rock pig. Not a country fan at all really (tho im not saying I dont like it) but I was in ireland a few years ago out in the country. This old fella had Boxcar willy on the wireless and I loved every minute of it. He was Mr entertainment!!!

  • What a hoot..not sure why I always thought he was borne (e for emphases) a Canadian or Brit but after just a short search am reaffirmed born a Texacan as John Wayne (born Marion Robert Morrison) would say! What a great showman!

  • Just love his voice...

  • really like boxcar so does lexy connolly

  • THIS is country music, if the "modern" country stars would or COULD emulate this entertainer then our music wouldn't sound like rock music.

Watch these musicians, They are enjoying making the music that America loves.

  • Kee-haw! Quick, get me my dancing clogs.

  • ive always loved Lecil Travis Martin,, from 78 when i heard him 1st,, i was 4 years old and i fell in love with that whistle,, oh by the way u guys mite know him better as the LEGEND that is BOXCAR WILLIE

  • declan from ireland, my late father was a big fan and got me liking this. Hadn't heard boxcar willie's music for a long time.

  • I keep coming back to this video, cant get enough of it.

Boxcar Willie was awesome and will never be forgotten.

No matter how down and low you get, Boxcar can pick up your spirits.

Heaven just gotten one of the greatest gifts with him entering.

God bless ya Boxcar Willie, R.I.P.!!!

  • My dad and I seen him in the early 80s at a Chili cookoff. We didn't know he was there until we heard the whistle. We looked at each other and both scratching our heads wondering where there would be a train. My dad got an excited look on his face and exclaimed "That's Boxcar Willie!" So off we went looking for the bandstand.

RIP Talk about a unique signature sound!

  • Excellent job by Boxcar. What a treat and a blessing! We miss you, Boxcar. You were a treasure. RIP

One of the few out there who made any sense, and just wanted to give people an honest smile on their face.

I won't deny it, a better man then me by far. God bless him. Heaven must be having a great time right now.

  • Greetings from Ireland. A great performance by a fine singer and excellent musicians, especially those fiddle players. Very infectious. These songs remind me of my late mother, she was a great person.

  • @nanamagoo you all have some of the prettiest music ever made. Its also in my opinion some of the hardest to play. Im in a bluegrass band in missouri, we play, The irish wash woman, its by far the hardest song on the whole set list, but anyway greetings from mt.vernon missouri!

    alan young

  • I'm not a huge country music fan, but there is something glorious about this rendition of Boxcar Willie's songs that makes me feel relaxed at the end of a tough day, and puts a smile back on my face.

  • Two of the best sounds of country music, twin fiddles and a steel guitar. God Bless Boxcar Willie!

  • God Bless you BoxCar!

  • Alway's liked Box Car,,even back then! Then I re-introduced him to the Old man again and then, he said Box Car Willie was the only artist ever that did ol' Hank Williams(Sr) justice !!! I think he was right !

  • a rare talent.

  • Willie was the greatest! I had the opertunity to meet him at Branson a week before he past. My wife and I will remember his great music and humor. He told us about his cancer treatments. I sure hate that he is gone.

  • Boxcar was an Engineneer on one o fthe B-29 flying fortress during the war.. He always had good shows and let me say they were pretty much sold out every time and Boxcar Willie was the first member of the Grand O Opry to set up a show in Branson..I believe it was Boxcar that ushered in the big named acts in Branson which started the boom. Hotel after hotel sprung up in Branson because of Boxcar Willie!!!

  • No Willie Wilson not Nelson!

  • @ELVISFREE1977,, you really know ur stuff,, he actually trained on a B-36 in 1949,, he got re-assigned 3 years later to a B-29 "SUPER" fortress.. Did u know him before he became BOXCAR????

  • Thank you for posting this. When i was kid my grandparents would take my brother and I out west to the Badlands of South Dakota, Black Hills, Cody Wyoming, Yellowstone, and Montana. We traveled in a 34' Class A Bounder Motor Home with a chevy 454 V-8. My grandfather had that RV packed with house speakers and they only played one artist....Boxcar Willie. Now 24 yrs old I am going out west again, this time to hike up into the Rocky Mountains and scatter their ashes. This song ulocks many memories.

  • As a kid, I use to run around the house and dance to listening to Boxcar Willie. Thank you for posting this.

  • really enjoy this ,,,down to the basic,,good country,,,a++++++

  • Wow, that's awesome how he makes that noise! Very talented, but it seems as though he's not as recognized as he probably should be or should've been. But what do I know? Here's one thing I know, I believe I read somewhere that he is a relative to actor Tommy Lee Jones. A cousin, I think.....

  • I lived in Branson and used to go see Boxcar. What a great talent. Great guy as well.

  • a friend of mine had tickets to see this guy back in the early 80s, that evening just as they were going to leave the clagary police came and arested him, all he did was scream I have tickets to see willie, god man give me a break, I will come to the station in the morning, just let me go see willie, well he never did see him,, but like myselfhe is still a huge fan, this man rocks, god rest his soul, we are so blessed to have his music on youtube!!

PS: maybe you will see him in heaven dave

  • Thanks for uploading this video. Boxcar Willie has such a distinctive, amazing singing voice but the whistle sound he makes is beyond compare. It is surreal. I can only imagine listening to this sound on a cold frosty night years ago in someplace like Texas. Boxcar has created this image for me and thank god all your contributors are very positive in their comments

  • i work on the katy rr old line now owned by uprr, great song. great singer great exhibitionist

I just live about 2 hours from Branson here in the Missouri area in the towe of Rolla.

  • Wow. I have not heard anything about Rolla since I went to college there in the late 1950s. I think it was called Missouri Schools of Mines then.

I see this was recorded at the Grand Palace in Branson. Didn't Boxcar Willie have his own theater in Branson at one time.

  • U went to school here, how neat. Yes, then it was called The Unversity Of Mo. They have named it again in the past year . It is called MS&T MO. Unversity of Science and Technology. Yes, he did have his own THEATRE.

    Darlene

  • In the days of steam engines, one could identify the engineer by the way he blew the whistle.
