  • Great video.

  • Haha, yes it IS true you don't have to live in Utah to ski the deep stuff...but how often does that happen? I'll bet not everyday. If you like deep pow skiing please please come do some telly at PC and The Canyons and Snowbird and Alta and stuff! If you've never been to Utah you're missing out, it's the greatest snow on earth...our license plates even say so! I love it!

  • aligator hill or state hospital possibly?

  • ya it's true that you don't have to live in utah for the good stuff... but while this is nice Utah probably has the dryest powder

  • Nice to see the bells too they brew that right downt the street from me here in kzoo.

  • We had some powder almost as deep as that here in lower michigan it was the first time I have ever been snowboarding when it got that deep, I love pow now and cant wait to either go out west or try going north.

  • hmmmm, miller hill on one location??

  • Sorry, Teletooler. I've actually never skied Miller Hill, but it's on my list. Thanks for commenting.

  • Yo, just came across this vid. Nice work and great ending...Bells beer.

I am from MI but live in CO now and miss bells. Glad to see folks Tele in MI.

  • Bell's is an essential ingredient to any backcountry tour.

  • oh boy, d aUP is an awesome plac eto do anything in the snow. im boarding up in the porkies this Friday (can't wait!!!)

  • I agree. The UP is awesome anytime, particularly in the winter. However, this was shot in the northern lower peninsula. I hope you get some good snow up there. Have a great time!

  • thank you, u have a good Christmas Season Too! :)

  • Shorten your poles and stab! Looks great. Thanks for the Vid. From Girdwoodian.

  • Awesome videography of the backcountry in the beautiful Lower. Looks like great tracks down there. Thanks, Yooper Drew

  • Gotta love that lake effect pow!!!

In the midwest you treasure those days!

In the mid Atlantic we dream about them....and watch vids like this! Thanks guys.

  • comparing that to Utah is like comparing 'two girls and one cup' to Haagen Daaz.

  • Relax, bjonb. The comment about Utah is in regard to the snow, and is intended for my buddies who live in Utah - where I lived for 7 years. It's a nice place, you should check it out sometime.

  • you're right. I must admit the snow looks very light. Something I miss just moving away from the Wasatch. Sorry for the neg.

  • Hey, no worries. You're right about the snow. The cold Arctic air that produces deep lake effect snow here in northern Michigan gives us days when it's every bit as light as Gunsight or Eagle's Nest. We just have shorter runs. ; )

    Thanks for your comments...

  • Floating on the freshies!

  • I love this vid! nice job!

I've watched it a bunch since I don't have time to go tele skiing myself for a couple weeks :(

    Nice! :D

  • It doesn't much matter where in Leelanau County, it's the fact tht a "Real Winter" has returned!! Yeah! Thanks for sharing the wonder of it all!

  • Good vid. Your not the only one who knows the good spots around here though.

  • That's the best part. There are plenty of spots in Leelanau County that great snow, and nobody skiing them!

  • wheres this at?

  • In Leelanau County, MI. one of the most beautiful places on earth, year round

  • its not at a ski resort though, its just some random spot that you guys hiked into?

  • I wish that was me! I don't know for sure but bet that they climbed SugarLoaf, a closed ski resort on the penisula.

  • It's actually two different locations, both on the same day. And sorry, can't give you any hints. ; )

  • dont worry ill find it [=

  • yea dude trust me, im from central New York, lake effect snow can be extremely dry and fluffy, especially when it falls at temps below 20 degrees. i have a couple secret spots i ski here in central ny, and they look just like that, but we dont have quite as much snow usually.

  • thats good but here in colorado we get dry and deep powder

  • Believe me, I know. I've skied plenty of powder in Colorado, but that's not the point. I'm just showing people in more snow-friendly places what a two-foot lake effect dump looks like. Trust me when I say it's just as light and dry as anything in Steamboat, and you can plainly see it's pretty deep. Thanks for your comment!

  • What fun - that looks like it was an epic day?

  • Epic is an understatement. Mid-thigh deep powder in northern Michigan? The topper was when the sun came out for the last (and longest) run of the day. Funny thing is, I was just learning to tele at the time. Can't wait to do it again!

    Thanks for your comment.

  • I used to live in MN and understand how rare conditions like that are. I

learned how to ski bums in MN and it was like making your way through

    a bowl of ice cubes.

  • this is whaleback point

  • Sorry, not Whaleback, but it is in Leelanau County.

  • WHALEBACK POINT

  • do you guys ski Hickory Hills?

  • One of the best powder days I ever had was in Northern Michigan in early March of 2002. I was surprised because being a native Californian, I never expected it. But I got to ski in over two feet of snow so light and fluffy it resembled down feathers. :)

  • Sweet! I miss da norf... Powerline hill?

  • Nick, mate, great job :)Even after a bunch of great Utah storms I will miss the good fun out there. I still appreciate you guys teaching me and getting my love of skiing started! Matt
