This movie was an awesome piece of cinema (one of my favorites) but that montage of his bosses firing him, and the scene where the car drives into the river aren't in the movie, whats up with that?
well for those who might not be aware, or u might..the showtime series "californication" is pretty much based on all the bukowskis novels, specially "women"
Bukowskis missing in this movie. Bukowskis mainly bout not respecting life. Movie portrays him with too much respect. That makes a very sympathic Bukowski - well guess what - he mostly was not.
i cant find a link to this movie that doesnt require the Divx or sumthin like that software downloaded so can anyone either link me or tell me if its better than the book? :)
@DeathNoteFreak000 @DeathNoteFreak000 imdb.com/title/tt0417658/soundtrack I believe it is the second song listed there: Slow Day. The same song is used throughout the trailer, if I trust my ears. I entered the lyrics into google and hey presto.
Why didn't they get Ernest Borgnein to play Bukowski, that'd work better than Matt Dillon. Nothing against him but he's to charismatic to pull off Chinaski!!!!!!
So many critizise the low budget style, but it is the best way to make Bukowski work. Do you think Bukowski cared for the font of his type-writer or paper ? Who cares after half a bottle of whiskey about details like what liquid is in the glases anyway ?
it's frustrating for me to watch that in present when I know that it was 50 years ago, if I didn't read a book, I probably would not bother with details.
nO sEAN iGNorntes En El cine Se adapta y LO hace alguien a quien Le gusto la Historia, Asi la Imagina y eso es bueno! estoy deacuerdo , lean el libro pero no digan que es mala...... Vean shortfilms claudiofiloxxx " Bernadete"
i watched movie, it's not bad, but it's low budget movie and there are lot of things (cars, machines, mobile phones) that couldn't be in 1950's. i find that frustrating.
I dont understand something, can someone explain me please. I have read book, and action of book is in 1950's but it looks to me that the movie is in modern time like 2000's. Sorry about my bad english.
@slbiggs36 Really? Where'd you hear that load of crap? Something you just made up I guess ---- During filming Bukowski said of Rourke; "Mickey Rourke is a real human guy, on and off the set. And in Barfly he really came through with the acting. I felt his enjoyment and inventiveness.
@jaredrose2 Look for the documentary here called Born into this. "He really over did it, you know, the hair hanging down, I don't think the kid has ever been a skidro, you know? When the guy walks in and he says "OOOHH, I've been this, I should run for mayor!" He didn't get it right, because I'd walk in say this: "Oh, I've been this, I guess I should run for mayor." See, you don't brag it, it's low key all the time. He had it all kind of exaggerated, untrue..."-Hank. Learn your shit boy, u fail.
well, i have nothing against low budget movies, just i hated that new cars and everything because action should be in late 40's and early 50's (factotum). And i think that rourke had more similar accent to buk's, dillon didn't even try.
This is dead on Bukowski as I imagine him.

The trailer doesn't justify the movie. The movie is brilliant. The best Charles Bukowski movie ever. Matt Dillon was awesome in the role.

i think that the only reason that rouke was good was because bukowski was on the scene when they were filming.

He said he overexaggerated in his performance, and that if he were as scummy as Mickey portrayed him, he never would've been able to rent a room.
