Obama is not a socialist. In addition, the Socialist Party USA is irrelevant. I would know. Why? I am a democratic socialist. Barack Obama is not governing all that different from George W. Bush in terms of policy. In fact, one could call the Obama presidency "Bush's third term." And two, no one listens nor takes the Socialist Party USA seriously either. As a former member of the party, I could tell you that they were a waste of time.

Jesus did give food to the hungry and medical attention to those with "pre-existing conditions", and never once asked to see an insurance card, or for any monetary support for his offerings of assistance.

Interestingly enough, many of the earliest communists were devout Christians who wanted to emulate the society in the Bible that had communal ownership with resources managed for the community by a council of wise elders. I can find the book and passage if interested.

As a former member of the Socialist Party USA (and currently a member of Democratic Socialists of America), I find it ironic to defend the SPUSA now. Barack Obama is not a socialist; he is barely a liberal. Having that said, both the SPUSA & DSA are the symbolic continuation of the old Socialist Party of America, which was the party of Eugene Debs, Norman Thomas, A Philip Randolph, and Helen Keller. The tradition is democratic socialism (like it exist in Europe), not liberalism nor Leninism.

1) If the SP does say that stuff, that's because that stuff is good for the country. This is like an ad for the progressive program for the SP.

2) If Obama does believe in this stuff, then good for him. But you see, a year into his term, and he has done the opposite of what he apparently "believes in". So don't you feel dumb!

Question 1: Can the video's author please provide citations for the claims he/she is making about Marx's positions, the SPUSA's platform and the positions he claims Obama has that is not some rightwing blog or Fox News, so we know that he/she is not making this stuff up?

Question 2: Does anyone actually believe that these proposals, which do not equate socialism, from the SPUSA's platform are really all that radical?
