i think the only problem with regards to driving in Egypt are the pedestrians and the public transportation buses stopping in the middle of the road.... other than that everything is fine!!!! regarding the square which is called the Tharir Square it is also the oldest as there are buildings there that date back to the 1800's
You're lucky man to have a fluent English talking driver in those old black taxis.Next time you visit Egypt Take the "Capital taxi"in Cairo or the call Cab if you're in Alex.Decent drivers in air cond. cars
I especially like the dashboard lined with camel fur, the Egyptian equivalent of those pine-scented cardboard trees.

We stayed in a hostel near the square you drove through.. Every time we ventured out we had to encounter that traffic jam. Nice video.
