They open their hearts to this pig, and what he does in return, he insults them, and he knows they don't understand English. I hope someone gives him a punch in the face to remind him to respect others as they respected you. My favorite episode when he visited Sardinia, a couple of guys almost gave him what he deserves. Anthony Bourdain leaves a much higher sense of respect from others to American and Americans.
Finally did it!! Just came back from Taiwan on Friday morning and had the chance to visit Di's House of Unique Stink!!!! We actually sat right where Zimmern did for the taping of this show. She was such a nice lady, seemed almost too nice, probably because of what she knew we would be eating....We all ordered the same Zimmern thing. Trust me.. He wasnt joking. I did get 3 big bites of the burger down, but the salad was worse!!. Street tofu scewered was pretty good with cabbage. Great time

Taiwan's 1000-yr eggs are different. Now you can barely smell anything, and they are as beautiful as transparent jelly, especially chicken's. They are just jelly-like eggs. Yeah, if U like the stinky eggs, we can offer in the orginal way. Everything comes to Taiwan is not that thing anymore. Japanese foods are not Japanese any more, and Chinese foods are not Chinese anymore. Well, we don't eat cats or drink Tokage Sake with a rotten Lizard in your glass. I never met a guy who eat dogs.:-)
I'm a huge fan of tofu and eat that almost everyday with chili sauce and rice, but i must admit that my westerner tastebude can't support the stinky tofu, for me is like put the feet of a dead man covered of rotten cheese in my mouth sorry, i try simple stinky tofu like the one Andrew try in the street and that's is very good but the fermented old stinky one that's a real challenge for westerne , but it was a good experience and maybe one day i will try again :)

Stinky tofu is made in a similar way as Kimchi in Korea and Natto in Japan. They put tofu in fermented vegetables for 3 days, and it's stinky tofu. If you don't like it, try eating cats or rabbit heads in China. Yeah, you could try drinking cow urine as well.

if i remember right: u need rotten snow water,it smells horrible like rotten cloaca and has animalcules.I was 4 years old and remember the aroma. u have to put tofu into few weeks. my grandma was so shocked of the water, she poured it out, it was 10 years old water :D
I dont judge people for eating dogs, I mean its like mrlolalo said, Indians think its terrible that we eat cow...but I would personally not be able to eat a dog, or for that matter a dolphin or a cat because these animals are so much a part of our life and are somewhat intellectual superior (thats why I mention dolphins)
i ate at Dai's unique stink and tried the two dishes andrew had. It really wasn't that bad! It wasn't even stinky! It was basically tofu, a little tiny bit sour, and a little tiny bit bitter. It tastes better if you add hot sauce.
Try it now the Bizarre Foods in the Philippines when you tasted really really good when you go back out and tell you I do not want to leave the Philippines.I love Philippines...

I've eaten at this stinky tofu restaurant. It's completely different from your regular stinky tofu. This one tasted like rotten cheese and smelled like rotten eggs. It was wayy too strong and it wasn't enjoyable after the first bite. Yeah couldn't handle this restaurant either lol never again did I go back
yaikss, they're not using hairnets. I just watched Bizarre food Korea and it showed the kimchi factory which I have to say, maybe one of the the cleanest factories on earth.

As a Taiwanese person, I personally enjoy it but I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. But the way he talked about the tofu and couldn't even swallow just out of respect was offensive. Just because its different from an American point of view doesn't make it "horrendous" or "inedible." His closed minded reaction just gave stinky tofu and Taiwanese culture a horrible and biased name. And the fact that he hugged and acted so fake around the owner after makes him a completely douche.

Stinky Tofu is actually really good, if you have ever eaten stinky cheese you know that is true. The same process of making and aging tof to give them that nasty smell is the same that the cheeses goes through, so really it taste sooooo good, my Chinese friend got me some and it smell so damn nasty but tasted so good. Hell I event tried dog once and it tasted better then beef and chicken, so yeah you need to be open minded about food.
As a Canadian living here I don't understand the aversion to stinky tofu. Milk products are relatively new in the Taiwanese palette. Andrew is quite right in comparing it to the western notion of Cheese. As with cheese it comes in a variety of "strengths". It's far from my favorite Taiwanese delicacy, I prefer chicken's feet, it's hardly terrible. The fried variety is subtle. Stewed can be quite potent. But one should remember cheese is similar in may ways. Rotten milk or rotten tofu.
I love stinky tofu... and come on, let's be honest, stinky tofu is called stinky because it's stinky. There is no differentiating the taste from the smell. You eat it, you get it in your mouth. That's the whole experiece. I think he got it right actually. The fried are not as bad, but the casserole variety is terrible (in a good way). :)

i m from hunan, went to aboard, i love stinky tofu, but if i imagine my friends see it the first time, there is no way they eat it. but if u grow up with it u love it, even if many ppl dont like it, it smells and taste very strong.
if i remember right: u need rotten snow water,it smells horrible like rotten cloaca and has animalcules.I was 4 years old and remember the aroma. u have to put tofu into few weeks. my grandma was so shocked of the water, she poured it out, it was 10 years old water :D

I dont judge people for eating dogs, I mean its like mrlolalo said, Indians think its terrible that we eat cow...but I would personally not be able to eat a dog, or for that matter a dolphin or a cat because these animals are so much a part of our life and are somewhat intellectual superior (thats why I mention dolphins)

i ate at Dai's unique stink and tried the two dishes andrew had. It really wasn't that bad! It wasn't even stinky! It was basically tofu, a little tiny bit sour, and a little tiny bit bitter. It tastes better if you add hot sauce.

I've eaten at this stinky tofu restaurant. It's completely different from your regular stinky tofu. This one tasted like rotten cheese and smelled like rotten eggs. It was wayy too strong and it wasn't enjoyable after the first bite. Yeah couldn't handle this restaurant either lol never again did I go back

I am german. I also were in southeast asia(Vietnam) and ate dog. it was great, though! its not horrible to eat dogs, i mean indian people rather die than eating a cow and we eat beef burgers every year.

As a Taiwanese person, I personally enjoy it but I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. But the way he talked about the tofu and couldn't even swallow just out of respect was offensive. Just because its different from an American point of view doesn't make it "horrendous" or "inedible." His closed minded reaction just gave stinky tofu and Taiwanese culture a horrible and biased name. And the fact that he hugged and acted so fake around the owner after makes him a completely douche.

Stinky Tofu is actually really good, if you have ever eaten stinky cheese you know that is true. The same process of making and aging tof to give them that nasty smell is the same that the cheeses goes through, so really it taste sooooo good, my Chinese friend got me some and it smell so damn nasty but tasted so good. Hell I event tried dog once and it tasted better then beef and chicken, so yeah you need to be open minded about food.

As a Canadian living here I don't understand the aversion to stinky tofu. Milk products are relatively new in the Taiwanese palette. Andrew is quite right in comparing it to the western notion of Cheese. As with cheese it comes in a variety of "strengths". It's far from my favorite Taiwanese delicacy, I prefer chicken's feet, it's hardly terrible. The fried variety is subtle. Stewed can be quite potent. But one should remember cheese is similar in may ways. Rotten milk or rotten tofu.

I love stinky tofu... and come on, let's be honest, stinky tofu is called stinky because it's stinky. There is no differentiating the taste from the smell. You eat it, you get it in your mouth. That's the whole experiece. I think he got it right actually. The fried are not as bad, but the casserole variety is terrible (in a good way). :)
