  • How did Dhyanesh Khan pass away?

  • On Monday, November 21, (1983?) Ustad Ali Akbar Khan recorded Rag Chandranandan, together with Ustad Alla Rakha, at the Theatre au Rond Point in Paris. In my opinion this was the greatest rendering of this extraordinary beautiful rag; its duration was some 50 minutes and I think it was France Musique recording it at the time and broadcasting it later, at a date I cannot identify. I was lucky enough to catch some of it on tape, which unfortutely has deteriorated since.

    Anybody knows about this ?

  • I've been drawn to this Rag as well by the CD "Ali Akbar Khan; Traditional Indian Music". I wanted to find out more—to start guiding me on what I can get by ear—but, I couldn't find this Rag listed on the ITC or AACM websites. On Steve Oda's website I just found this; "[Chandranandan is] ...by Maestro Ali Akbar Khansahib... ...combines four ragas: Malkauns, Chandrakauns, Nandakauns and Kaushi Kanara." Now I'm off to understand those Ragas.

  • What is the aaroah and Aavroah of this raga? Very melodious raga. Thanks

  • @kjaan

I do not know. Perhaps, some student of Khansahib may be able to post it here?

  • Thanks so much for uploading this. True gem. Bliss and Enlightenment awaits you.

  • This is fantastic, thank you so much!

  • Average melody...lacking in tonal serenity and evenness in melodic construction...nothing before Amjad Ali Khan

  • @duttalara12345 : You must be very sophisticated, or jaded, or just a pretentious snob, not to mention an obnoxious phoney. Personally, this is my favorite Raga. I first heard it at a concert in San Francisco forty or fifty years ago where Ali performed with the tabla player, Chatur Lal. I never forgot that night, and I still remember Sind Bharaivi and piloo. among other rags. Unfortunately for me, I never thought of looking for Ragas on YouTube until today. You can be sure that I will be back.

  • @QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO Clealy you yourself have degraded your standards by launching into a rather pretentious personal attack on me, rather than attempting to counter my observations on the melody, with a musical analysis. This leads me to conclude that your knowledge on the matter of music is scanty at best.i urge you to use youtube as a medium to explore different artists and then conclude with a total understanding-instead of grudging me-why dont u listen to Amjad and then get back to me

  • i have heard like 5 or 6 chandranandans from him each has it's qualities this one is just burning

  • There is that little piece of peace in Indian music that rarely any other can offer. Very enjoyable! Thank you for posting!

  • Oh! Cruel world!

Nobody in my country now that God of sarod passed to heaven.

    His immortal...

  • He is NOT a God, no-one is. But I do miss him very much.

  • God of music, Sangeetadeva, not The Creator :-)

  • This is a rare collection as we see both late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Dyanesh Khan.

They are both playing raag Chandranandan exquisitely. I could listen to Khan Shaheb almost 16 hours and I wouldn't get bored. He was amazing.

Thank you for posting this rare video.

  • I studied a similar raga with Khansahib back in 83 and I love his ever shifting versions of a raga he composed way back. My image of him is standing in his garden in San Anselmo, watering his plants and giving me that rye smile.

I wont forget a great guru. Ken Wells.

  • @maitreyeehffrsa: I first became acquainted with Ali Akbar Khan and Indian music forty or fifty years ago. It was a shock, because I went for educational purposes and hadn't expected to experience a transformative evening. Today I discovered Indian music on Youtube. Will my blessings never end? I'll certainly be back. Could you upload Chandrandan in one piece? I might add that Chatur Lal also died young.

  • @QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO

Many thanks for your message. Unfortunately, I didn't upload Khanshaheb's Chandranandan. Kindly write to Sitarjeet who uploaded the raag. I only commented on Khan Shaheb's unforgettable and inimitable music.

    Culturaly/musically yours,

  • ustad ali akbar khan

  • RIP Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

  • Now this greatest of great players is no more!

  • Beautiful

  • Living masterpieces

  • Thanks so much for posting this performance. Raga Chandranandan has been one of my top favorites of Khan-sahib since the mid-1960's and I love to hear every different performance

  • very great masters. thank you very much! =)

  • LATE????? Dyanesh Khan.

    What happened???

    Nick

  • I don't know any details. But yes he passed away - not long before I recorded this broadcast, as I understand. It's really sad since he was SUCH an excellent sarod player...as evidenced by this recording.

  • Lousy shame. Do you know how old he was?

Are any of these recent AAK school posting available commercially?

    Nick

  • Sorry, I don't know the answer to either of the questions. I recorded this off tv broadcast.... seems like Doordarshan.

  • I started training under the tuitilage of Ustd Dhyanesh Khan in 1985 April. He sadly passed away in 11th October 1991. May his soul rest in peace.

  • Its indeed beautiful.Ustad Ali Akbar Khan plays very soothingly.I am a professional Sitar player from India.Ustad Ali Akbar's style of playing is very similar to my style of playing Sitar. We both are from same Gharana.I have few of my Sitar videos uploaded in youtube.Ustad Ali Akbar Khan is truely magnificient.

  • Grazie, di questa meraviglia

  • Wow! Thank you so much for this rare post. I love this rag. Ali Akbar Khan towers above everyone. Nikhil Banerjee is the only one in the same league. They both play with such feeling and spontaneity. Well done.

  • A rare rendition indeed !!!

I hope alap precedes this Gat?

    Thanx a lot

  • I recorded this from a local tv broadcast on my vcr. If there was alap, then I missed it.

Anyways, I am very happy you enjoy and appreciate what I have posted.

  • Thnx for your reply.

Still a good job I would say. Keep it up brother.
