  • I just RANDOMLY got a vertical white line down both left and right side of the screens of a 32" LCD Samsung tv. It has been fine forever...and all of a sudden there are white lines going all the way down to the bottom.

On top of that, when playing Xbox 360, if I move the screen around too fast (which should NEVER be a problem, just by using the analog stick to MOVE the damn character around), it somehow managed to cause the white lines to look smokey and spread, then go away, then spread again.

  • I just got a call from Samsung executive customer relation about my DLP HL61A750A1FXZA with white dots on the screen, and he said that even this problem have been fixed in other DLP TV because they are considered defective, in the case of my TV model is not considered defective but wear and tear. So I think they need to get enough complaints of junks TV for my model to decide it is a defect and Samsung is going to repair at no cost? What a bunch of Crap...Never Again buy a Samsung TV....!

  • When I called them I just mentioned the recall repair number and they repaired my Grandmother's Samsung for free.

    (she had the white dots)

  • Thanks for posting this, one more person who will never buy a samsung product again AND will actively let people know that samsung is not standing behind their product.

  • Hey Josh you and the people at Samsung need to own up to the fact that your televisions have a recall! In 2005 I bought a new car and in 2010 (Well out of warranty) they called me and said there is a known recall on my vehicle and they would be fixing it free of charge. You know what that did? It gave me peace of mind and confidence in that company. I sadly cannot say the same of Samsung. I will never ever buy a Samsung product again after the way I have been treated and disregarded!Discraceful

  • We had the same problem with our Samsung slowly white dots were appearing, kinda like a disease. I guess luckily for us, we purchased our Tv at Best Buy and bought their insurance. So we had the problem fixed free of charge. Now the bulb blew, but at least I can get that fixed free too, just a pain in the butt. Samsung knows damn well it is a product defect, that is their fault and they should be replacing all units regardless of the warranty period.

  • @hpremus13 All DLP tv's have this problem.

  • Well, I have same issue with Samsung tv. I called their service support and at first they promised to fix it for free if the chip is defective. They DID ADMIT the fact that their chip was defective. Day before the appointment, they called me and said that it is not going to be free at all, regardless of the defect. The warranty was expired. And they asked me if I still wanted them to come over and fix the tv. After some argument i gave up. I got mad and canceled the appointment. What an idiots

  • So is samsung fixing this now or not.

  • @justice2576 I've contacted our local news troubleshooter and she is working on the case for me. If there is the possibility of tarnishing their reputation on national TV they might reconsider their choices! They told me no..

  • i have this problem, and my question is why they continue build products with a manufacturing defect and allowing customers to buy there products.

  • Samsung was fixing this issue for free at one time. I am not sure if they are still doing it.

  • theres no problem with white dots with samsung tv s,,thats all speculation,,,,,

  • @bathwaterfilms ya, no problem even though thousands of people with samsung dlp tvs are having the same problem >.>

  • Just happened to me....Samsung rep. very nice. Scheduled a free service call to replace the DMD Chip.

  • My 3 year old mitsubish has the same problem. I paid $1500.00 for the TV. I am on my 3rd $250.00 lamp.

  • for complaints go here ripoff.com lets get those suckers. i paid $2000 for my tv and is not ending this money pit tv

  • I think Josh was Facebooking at the time.

  • If Samsung pays BBB the year fee BBB will wipe all the bad comments away.

20/20 had a show about BBB.

  • I am sorry but I had to chop my response and now you have to read it starting from the bottom where it says: "This is really amazing..." and work your way up until you read: "White Spots Plague"

    GOOD LUCK !

  • No, the problem will not come back. As far as what you need to do:

First you ned to read... read... READ ! google key words "samsung white dots" then do the same thing on YT there is tons of info and every case is different, gather names phone numbers of Samsung reps, BBB agents, there is even a forum on FaceBook go to this link and read:

    avsforum dot com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16445994&posted=1#post16445994

    you'll find ALL the answers

  • @Telomostro I cannot think of anything else right now but it would be great if people that have actually successfully replaced the part added to this synopsis by quoting it so all the info will continue staying together in one post rather than spreaded over 200 posts and whoever comes after this post will have an easier time understanding what it takes to fix the "White Spots Plague"

  • @Telomostro Check the hours by entering the Service Menu on your TV: Turn TV off, on the remote control press IN SEQUENCE (one by one) MUTE then 1 then 8 then 2 and finaly turn on your TV FROM THE RC. This will get you into the Service Menu and under OPTION the LAMP LIFE will display. STAY AWAY from FACTORY RESET or you will risk to erase all of your channel settings, lamp hours and ANY kind of customization you might have done to the set since you purchased it.

  • @Telomostro Get your manuals and all bunch of documentation from this link posted by Pez (please read post #111 I am not allowed to post URL's) you will need mainly disassembly_reassembly_pdf.pdf

If you have more than 5000 hours on your lamp take this opportunity to replace it.

  • @Telomostro Avoid disconnecting the ribbon connector, (it gets tricky to put it back) instead fold it over

No re-alignment necessary if you don't mess with the adjustment screws and you shouldn't.

The places to get the replacement part are: Samsungpartsdotcom, encompasspartsdotcom, partstoredotcom (encompass right now is the chippest)

The replacement part is on backorder everywhere as of 5.5.09

  • @Telomostro If you have white dots your DLP chip (also called DMD panel) is bad

If you have a Version PB02 the part # you are to order would be 4719-001981

If you have a Version PB01 the part # you would order would be 4719-001968

Have some "Thermal Compound" handy when you do the job to replace an aparently iffy pad (Radio Shack has this compound generaly in stock).

Avoid touching the little mirrors with your fingers.

  • @Telomostro Same crap here: HLS5086W PB02 purchased Dec 06 developed white dots about a month ago, now.... I have read in their entirety the 165 preceeding posts here, I took notes and at the end when I summarize everything it seems like....

  • @Telomostro this is really amazing... so many ppl having basically the same problem:

1/8 - 1/4" white dots that look like stars and rapidly multiply with a lesser number of black dots and, on a nice summer night, 1 or 2 dots that actually flicker.

I think I am gonna keep it like that, my GF and I think it's very romantic

Just kidding, I am really pised off:

  • @Telomostro I have a mitsubishi dlp and it has just started 2 days ago, I currently have 3 black dots and one flickering white dot. It will start to spread like fire probably. Its stuck mirrors on the failing DLP chip. The chip needs replaced at a price of only $350. ONLY $350!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my tv is having a problem now its about 2 /12 years old so its outt of warentee wut do i have to do will samsung help an if the tv is repaired will the problem come back in another 2 years ????

  • Thanks man!! You stopped me from buying a used one at a rockbottom price.

  • I have just started to get the white dots on my 50 inch DLP. I have had it just over 2 years

  • @dchez79 same here. went from 8 to 800 in 2 months

  • just buy a led projector

  • I don't even use my Samasung much and gaining white spots all over the DLP. Samsung sucks a dick. The LAST time I will spend a grand on this fucking shit.

I am out of warrenty but can these fuckers at least help in what purchasing a specific card to replace on the specific TV's. Assholes can't even do that. I have to do a number of searches just to try to fix this issue if its even fixable.

  • Sorry, meant to say no cost.

  • Samsung fixed the problem half way I still had to pay for the labor ($250) and that was after the Beyyer Business Bureau intervention.

That's it with Samsung as far as I am concerned.

  • Contact them, they have changed their tune on this matter

  • Samsung will repair this at not cost.

For this issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG (rather than filling out an online service request).

    1. Explain your situation to the call center agent, and see if you can have a service ticket set up. A brief reminder, the free service is limited to white/black dot issues - both of which are an indication of a stuck micromirror chip. All other issues - out of warranty - will have a potential service/part charge.

  • Mine went from 4 white dots to several to a few thousand all within a few weeks. My 50'' DLP has not been on that much in the 2 years I have had it. I am going to try to replace the DMD board which is causing this issue. Samsung has been a pain with replacing a defected part on so many of their TV's. With me working for Best Buy, I am never going to recommend Samsung to any customers that are interested in TV's.

  • I have same problem, talked to best buy b/c I knew I wouldn't get anything out of Samsung. Best Buy stopped selling DLP's b/c they are having so many problems with them

  • I have a 50" Samsung DLP that I paid $1500 for. It crapped out on me with green squares everything on the screen after only 1.5 years of light use. Guess what, from now on I would never buy any electronics with the name Samsung on it. Period. Avoid Samsung.

  • I'm experiencing this issue as well. I haven't contacted Samsung yet, but I absolutely plan on doing so. My first white dot appeared yesterday, and today I have a total of three. From what I've read, it's only going to get worse.

  • "being out of warranty for a number of years..."

did you expect a lifetime warranty ?

hate to tell you, but although you recorded the conversation, they have yours on permanent online record and it will be noted at any time in the future should you call ccc/ecr for service on any samsung product you own.

think about this for a moment.

if you were "Josh", how would you feel ?

  • I actually purchased this TV 2-1/2 years before finding the "white spots" issue on Google

  • you should have taken a hint when you googled the "white spots" and not purchased a DLP television set.
