@KillerZetzz Whether or not the first flyers (entirely subject to definition), the Wrights (for all their success in 1903) failed to inspire any sweeping American interest in the potential of the aircraft. Most major industrial investors they had hoped for looked away after the spectacle, and thus the United States entered World War 1 "lacking" any modern airplane; having to rely on French-made machines (most of America's aces flying the French Spad VII and/or XIII).

@subzyro5 Depending on your definition of "airplane" ...many flew before the Wrights, including another American. Some Europeans made heavier-than-air/powered flights as many as thirty years earlier, although the U.S. out-paced the small European nations in the production of "history" texts. Stealth was neither new nor American when it was applied to the F-117, and the development of the atomic bomb first started in Britain; moved to the U.S. to keep it secret from German intelligence.

@Hobiecat33 Russian carriers have "more" power ... the Nimitz, as in the "ship" itself, has next-to-no surface-to-air protection and absolutely no anti-ship capability; being entirely dependent on its air wing for all facets of war, both offensive and defensive (not desirable when flight ops are inhibited by sea conditions). The Russian carriers, meanwhile, are veritable hornets' nests of surface-to-air missile and close-in-weapon systems, with true ship-based, ship-killing capabilities.

@Factinator i wouldnt say CARRIERS because they only have one. and the nimitz has alot of defensive systems. on american ships its very hard to see. aircraft carriers go on carrier strike groups too so they are well defended. and always have wings on the air so they are defended

These include the three wouldbe Kuznetsov, four Kiev, and a number of anti-submarine carries, all having the same basic characteristics; ship-based anti-ship missiles in tandem with ship-based air defences as thick as those of a N.A.T.O. task group. In the case of the Kuznetsov versus the Kiev, the Su-33 is of course a much greater asset than the Yak-38.

@derek8877 The Kuznetsov is no older than most western carriers still in service, and its principle aircraft could well be the most formidable still serving from carriers in the world today. Additionally, the Kuznetsov has true ship-based defensive and offensive capabilities; whereas western carriers are almost entirely dependent on their air wings.

@nunchuck19 The single or dual Sea Sparrow launchers on U.S. carriers aren't anti-missile weapons, and have less ranges versus aircraft less than those of the VLS missiles carried by accompanying Ticonderoga and/or Arleigh Burke class vessels. What's more, the Phalanx on the Nimitz have exclusive arcs-of-fire (meaning, one can't compliment another), leaving the ship "extremely" vulnerable to a swarm-attack.

I don't think it was lucky shot. If you speak in term of technical capability, BUK's (1960) can shot down F-117. In 1990s, Yugoslaviys had only anti aircraft missiles manufactured 1960s. The country, and even Soviet Union itself was in political crisis, they didn't maintain any weapon properly... this is reason why they could shot more of F-117

now they have s400 and can even shoot down balistic rockets in the space..
s400 can see your b2 on a 600 km distance..
and fire at it on 400 km distance..

And yes I did take a look and there is no mention of B-2 or F-22 (because you just made that up). And to the sources they provide about detecting low RCS it doesn't mention anything either. Low RCS and stealth aren't the same thing, many fighters 4.5+ gen are low RCS.

@clericboy289 in balcan war, in about 20 months, min 3 f-117s were shot down (1 with Mig 29, 2 with surface-to-air missile system KUB, designed in 1959. Moreover, US focused on aero dynamics to make F-117 invisible, thus F-117 has poor maneuverability. Russians already took care about the stealths; for TORs, S-300 or S-400 (new missile system) stealth airplanes is just piece of cake.
