The thing is, nobody except those who were there really know what went on that day. The men that were fired on were obviously carrying items which could easily be mistaken for weapons. Theres also a man peeking around a corner, as if trying to see what the helicopter is doing and holding what could also be mistaken as a weapon. When they fired on the van, nobody knows who was in the van, whether there were weapons in the van or not. The pilots identified weapons & requested permission to fire.

The crew clearly thought that the people down there were insurgents, and it is difficult to decide, within seconds, if an object with shoulder straps is an AK-47 or not. The recon team in the chopper needed to be WAY more thurough in their analysis of the scene before they started dropping bombs, this is why unmaned vehicles are useful, they can assess the situation without fear of being killed while they do. But also the media (contd)...

@BullRadu Oh yeah, why don't you try and use proper english when you try and sound philosophical. I think you meant to say "Patriotism is the equivalent of stupidity" in which case you would be wrong. Blind patriotism is stupid, simply following orders that go against your morals is stupid, but there is nothing wrong with being proud of your nation. You don't have to be a patriot, but at least have a little respect for the people that are dieing to protect your freedoms.
