His playing dazzles me: elements of serenity and vigour form a sound that is as genuine as human voice. And his actual approach to the art of performing really stands out!!!
dans 50 ans, dans 100 ans, il sera reconnu à sa juste valeur. sa musique sera comprise par tous. et le nom de shostakovich fera oublier celui de mozart, celui de beethoven...
shostakovich is genius and everything else isn't important.i think, oistrach thought the same

3:14 and following the violin is crying. 4:40 Oistrakh is crying.

See his arm at the cadenzza. Other's seem like robots, he's completly loose.

I can see Shostakovich through Oistrach's playing. 2 powerful people.

Oh my God, thank you for posting this. That cadenza takes one's breath away. Oistrakh is unbelievable.

The third movement and cadenza give me goosebumps - the tragedy in the music is so raw, and so real if you know the context.

Oistrakh knew how to interpret
Shostakovich. He was probably the
best violinist of the 20th century.

Debatable
but i have to agree with you on the point of oistrakh knowing how to interpret shostakovich

Hard to say the best. Perhaps in certain aspects. Definitely ONE of the best - you have to leave room for personal opinion :)

That was in response to tarom123's comment about Oistrakh's being the best violinist of the 20th century.
Neo21803 1 year ago
@tarom123 Quite possibly because Shostakovich wrote most of his violin music FOR Oistrakh.
Not meant to be hateful. Oistrakh and Shostakovich are both two of my many idols.
