Great video. Sounds like that book is very interesting. I think the biggest problem with intelligence tests is that they are each based on the culture of the countries that they are written in. There are many different kinds of intelligence and one test can't say one way or the other how intelligent a person is.
Alfred Binet, the man who "invented" the intelligence test, was AGAINST is being used in this manner. It was devised to point towards possible learning disabilities, not to rate someone's "innate" intelligence (if there is such a thing).
The book was edited and revised in 1996 in order to refute The Bell Curve. I do not think everyone is equal, merely that ones "race" is a very small factor in what makes up a person.
That's a straw man. He was merely asserting that intelligence has little to do with the combinations of physically expressed phenotypes that we refer to as "race". I happen to agree with him.
Well, then, you'd happen to be wrong, just like the late S.J. Gould. Most who do the science will acknowledge this privately. Physically expressed phenotypes do correlate with and indeed are quite predictive of intelligence as measured by standardized IQ tests. I, perhaps like you, wish it were not so, but wishing won't make the reality go away.
I am not denying a difference in results in standardized IQ tests, I am, in fact, asserting that the results you reference are because of economic and social differences, not biological in nature.
Yes, in China and Japan, academic achievement is held in the highest regard. In American schools, intelligent kids are alienated, and sports are pushed much more. Asian parents encourage their kids to push themselves.
Well, I would encourage you to continue to read the actual science -- post-Gouldianism, and if you truly adhere to the scientific method you will come to understand that nature is an order of magnitude more important than nurture.
Aaron... I love your videos. You have a talent for being engaging and offer compelling discussions on much of the post-modern superstition that drives our little rat race. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your kind words. I'm still getting used to doing these little blurbs of randomness, but I think I'm getting better at it. Thanks for your encouragement, more to come! =)

Oh, and thanks for the comment! =0
Sorry, I got worked up, looking at some of the old comments left here by racists.

History disproves the bell curve, even if Egypt isn't "black African" blacks still can claim Nubia :)

Ok claming old Civilizations is pretty superficial but
point is if Nubians are the same "race" as African Americans I don't think African Americans are innately less intelegent

the book mismeasurement of man has been completely debunked by Rushton, Jensen, Murrey, and Lyne. Its a straw man book.

The work of Jensen in The Bell Curve is what was debunked by The Mismeasure of Man, by Gould. Have you read it?

that book was made before the bell curve..I can't believe an Atheist is buying into all this egalitarian crap.
you don't think god made all men equal do you?

Are caucasian's lower results, as compared to East Asian's, also the result of economic and social differences?
