No wonder he sang well 'cause his specialty was the Shamisen (traditional instrument like a banjo) and he also sang and danced traditional music. He was a musician before being an actor. I'm pretty sure that his technique of traditional dance helped his action in sword play.

@diddymuck i agree with you 100%....the last film: "The last Zatoichi" played by a new young, comer i didn't find that good, though...there is one version of film played by a female Zatoichi, it is not that good, either.
