its called a doh-tara. 2 stringed instrument if u translate it.
are you talking about the khammak - the drum with the string?

ek-tara( oek -one, tara- string), bengali instrument most commonly used for baul songs. Th singer is holding do-tara(two string) but they often helds four strings.
