  • @SentOnFriday

I don't think you understand, as long as there is a familiar way of doing things, then they will be done that way, besides huge companies are already strangling competition

  • People need to understand that we dont need oil, we need alternatives, to the combustion engine for starters, sure we need a transition fuel, and this might be one of them them, but we need something truly green for the long term.

  • See HtK7REGOJM4 For Commercial Algae Production

  • What is the purpose of those machines that are swirling the flasks around?

  • Brilliant, but when it said Exxon invested in it, now it sounds predictably bad. I'm sure Exxon oil will invest in this so they'll still have their profits and overprice this wonderful technology when it's ready to sell.

  • lol my classmate said

    Al becomes gae(gay)

  • i still dont get it,even if we use ethanol with fuel to reduce the amount of pollution,ur still gonna use all the petrolium you have right?,i mean....it still wont make such a diffirence

  • Literally 'Green' Energy

  • Green Algae as gasoline looks very promising. =)

  • AND WEEEEE DONNNNNNT CARRRRRRRE bitches.

  • The best, yet possibly the most paradoxical thing about using algae to produce biofuels, is that the algae used to make them use the carbon dioxide produced by combustion to grow and produce more carbohydrates and lipids, substances that can be used as biofuels. It is by use of energy that more may be produced.

  • hêh_ãÑYõne_wÅñNà_chÂt_wîth_me_i_fêËl_sÒ_lõñèlÿ_tôdäy♫

  • i always refereed to algae as punscum...not

  • #1 we are not nearly about to run out of anything. outright lie right there. proven reserves in canadia, us oil shale alone can keep world demands satisfied for hundreds of years with no other finds included, such as mexico, gom, stalks of russia, world nat gas, and the amazing things coal to diesel, etc. other alternatives. we should use all the above, including what we allready know.

  • @circusboy90210 keep believing in that when you pay twice the money for half a tank. Most natural resources will dry out. They are not infinite. It will become more and more expensive to harvest what is left. That's when it will pay of to use alternatives. We are used to cheap energy soon that will be history.

  • @2Manolo3 no they are not infinite but we don't have the capacity to use what's here in less than 10,000 years by the proven reserves alone. I definatly believe we should use all the above, not just alternatives, as there are things that petroleum can do that science has not made sufficient in volume or type to suffice (not just combustion , or propulsion uses, think medical, plastics, energy for transforming material etc, fertilizerss.)

however abiotic is not a myth.

  • @2Manolo3 money is power, oil is just like diamonds a commodity that is not short in supply by any manner but is horded to create the illusion of scarcity to keep prices artificially high. remember the biggest jump in crude prices occured because of supply chain disruption after Katrina , there is no reason for prices to be as high as they are now, a hurricane does not cause input cost to rise overnight. chinas demand is a red herring..

  • @circusboy90210 keep believing in that when you pay twice the money for half a tank. Most natural resources will dry out. They are not infinite. It will become more and more expensive to harvest what is left. That's when it will pay of to use alternatives. We are used to cheap energy soon that will be history. Ask yourself this? What will be the result of a higher demand because of China + other emerging economies + harder to harvest resources.

  • Correction. Not "generate" energy, but capture energy.

  • So, we are going to produce 85 million barrels of Oil per day just from Algae? Seriously?

  • @Woka53 one day maybe, but anything that starts huge will go out quick. start small and we might even be exporting one day.

  • He is an OPEC slave to be exact.

  • My 60 year-old coworker doesn't believe in this. He is an Oil Slave.

  • bullshit. it is impossible to generate high amounts of energy from algae. only a very thin layer of algae-cells grow over the water, and they contain over 90% water itself. so only 50% of 10% (organic compounds) of the algae-cells are actually lipids. not more than a small cup for one periode on one big field. it is just a big lie to get money from the goverment.

  • Perhaps it can stop global warming!

    I am into dis!

  • where they get their CO2? the air CO2 is it enough for large production?

  • @supperstorm They get it from the atmosphere. Yes, the air CO2 is enough, about 0.04% of the air is CO2. That may not sound like a lot, but that's the source of practically all the CO2 the world's plants use.

  • the future of transport is Bicycles.

    algea research is useful though

  • exxon is not the antichrist - they just want to maintain their position and make money. that can be achieved in different ways. when they realise they're not able to fight against the EU and US's tightening CO2 legistlation and the progress it has especially on automotive industry they of course have to abide to the new situation and find new ways to make business.

  • Why would Exxon ever invest in something like this unless there was some hidden motive? I'm not being paranoid, just looking at their history and the CEO right now would want petroleum to stay up until we run out.

  • I think electricity is more convenient + it's pollution free.

  • Well how exactly are we supposed to produce the electricity, changing types of energy causes immense energy loss.

  • @lunei66

Not all electricity is pollution free. How do you think it is generated? By burning oil, natural gas, and coal. True there are hydroelectric, solar, and wind power plants. Most of the electricity is generated by burning coal.

  • nice quality. nice message. bravo algae technology and hi quality video cams!

  • Excellent video. GOTWITLESS a realy clear and sharp video is accompllished with high quality video equipment. One can not expect videos like this by using a cellphone cam.

  • Video is so clear and sharp... what makes GOOD videos different?

  • true hemp is a great source of fuel and plastic that actually is great for the enviroment

  • how about stop been fucking retards, like goverment is and legalize weed, you can make fuel from hemp, LIKE WTF are they thinking theresunlimeted fuel out there, but they dont wanna leagalize weed because u cant have taxes on it what a fags!

  • true true

  • Stop smoking weed and go back to school.

  • USE LOCKERZ! if anyone wants an invite, PM me.u'll get ur invite in an instant. EARN POINTS AND EXCHANGE FOR PRIZES!

  • true true

  • cool ~

  • kulangot pwede gawing fuel

    naimbento ko

    kaya mga tambay jaan

pwede na pagkakitaan yung kulangot nyo

  • what is this?

  • that is cute

  • thats pretty cool. i hope this turns out to be somehting big, in my lifetime !

  • HAHHAHAHAHH These tree hugging faggots are soo funny.

  • Hurr durr, get the fuck out. You inbred retards can't even begin to comprehend this.

  • HAHAHAHH look another fucking idiot.

  • hurr durr; care to explain why I'm an idiot? OH WAIT! YOU CAN'T, because you lack any valid argument.

  • But, if all we're doing is producing a substance similar to petroleum, then where is the part where we reduce emissions? Or is the algae supposed to take care of that?

  • We live in a competitive society and Exxon only supports this algae shit because they can get money from it just the same way as with gasoline. What about self sufficient energy like electricity; charging tanks bound to each wheel, solar power etc.

I don't think people will actually buy this crap and think all of a sudden that competitive corporations are suddenly GOOD..

  • It's not about whether or not they're trying to win over the public's opinion through "Heroism"- but actually converting from a generally harmful method, to a cleaner more efficient method.

  • As i said in a post earlier, algae NEEDS CO2 to make the petrol. And it takes in as much CO2 as it's fuel will released when burnt.

  • Ah mannnn! I went and skimmed all the algae off the surface of a nearby pond and put it in my car's tank hoping for a freebie. Instead, the thing won't even start and it smells horrible!

    Thanks a lot, science nerds!

  • That is definately not how it works, you silly kid.

  • Now ya tell me!

  • Fail

  • YOU'RE the fail!

  • Umm, no.

  • 'Fraid so.

  • A man named Denny Klein discovered a way to use water to power many devices usually dependent on gas. This was never adapted for every day use. In the early 2000's California began encouraging people to buy new Electric Vehicles. But the idea was scrapped and the cars where destroyed. Now this Algae energy?

The fact is that there has always been clean free energy available, but I guess the government's making too much money off oil companies to let those energy sources thrive on the market.

  • very interesting

  • I think Algae is a great idea... But I still couldn't give two shits about the environment.

  • well thats just dandy

  • Retard.

  • I repeat, release of CO2 from burning these things are negated by the fact that the same amount of Co2 is needed to grow these algae.

Algae are essentially living solar panels that store their energy in the form of diesel. To start storing, it uses C02.

This is different from fossil fuels because with fossil fuel, we're digging up age-old carbon from the depths and liberating them in the air. With algae, we're simply cycling the same amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Understand ? =P

  • so what your saying is that using algae as fuel is carbon neutral =P

  • Yeah pretty much, but I needed to explain how it is so xD

  • @MedicalChew I think the point is that you're closing the loop; not introducing anymore extra CO2 into the system. That is, if you actually buy into the ridiculous idea that the small amount of CO2 that humans create has somehow been more harmful to our environment then all the volcanoes that have erupted throughout all time. The environment will stabilize.

  • @tigersire you are partially correct. Yes the environment will stabilize, but will it stabilize at a point at which the environment is still a habitable one for 7+ billion humans? CO2 levels have never been so high in researched climate history, which is longer than humans ever existed. So the climate situation is very unique and that will have dire consequences if we don't stop putting more CO2 into our atmosphere.

  • @MedicalChew Couldn't you be able to make it carbon negative? That is to say, can't you produce it in such a way that it takes in CO2 while growing, and then you only turn SOME of it into fuel, which releases the CO2 back into the atmosphere? Therefore, the algae that you didn't use, yet you let grow in a pond, captured atmospheric CO2. And then you could just dry it and use it as fertilizer, or even just bury it or something

  • @HappyGilmoreFTW

    Hypothetically yes

  • @HappyGilmoreFTW You do not have to do that, that's the story.

If we'd use Algae for 50% of our energy and solar or windenergy for the rest, having the Algae taking everything that it produces, the amount of CO2 that is actually in the atmosphere would be reduced simply by all our trees. We'd then have a level where we would not have to think more about CO2...

  • @HappyGilmoreFTW as it stands it is. only 50% or less of the biomass is oil. carbon is also in the algae meal left over at the end. if this is not burned it can be buried to lock the CO2 in strata

  • @MedicalChew Okay you seem like a smart enough commenter. The "fossil fuels" we use IS decayed animal and plant material, so by burning it we are releasing the chemicals back into the environment to be used by future generations. I understand that we need to start looking for alternative fuel resources, but we should change to electric, while releasing these chemicals back into the biosphere for healthier more nutritious plant life.

  • Oh and as far as battery acid there is not one battery made that you would need worry about that would be used for cars lithium is pretty harmless look up what it is and you will under stand it wont burn you

  • Ok so what do we drink? It is stupid when we can use electric cars it is only matter of batteries being made that can be stored at charging stations and you go in drive over a pit and under the car they slip in a newly charged universal battery in car and you pay for the charging it is completely possible already just convert filling stations to charging stations they are enough already and close enough apart even for distances it is just a matter of kicking oil companies out simple.

  • one time in science class we were learning the carbon cycle and i was like ''wtf is all-gay?''

  • the asian woman around 1:41 is pretty.

  • no shes not none r

  • @Vintage772 All Asians look alike.. so by saying she is pretty you are saying almost every woman in china is pretty. Which is fine.

  • Idiots!

    1. Refine "Algae" to make Algae fuel.

    2. Manufacture an automobile to run on Algae fuel.

    3. Burn Algae fuel which will produce emission's such as co2, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc... Back to square one.

How about they go back to University and keep studying and wasting more money. All I see is a bunch of morons that are wiping their ass with their degree's.

Evolution with lithium-ion batteries and technology is getting better and better. The electric car will take over.

  • Once you see a electric car accident with a broken battery, spilling acid all over the driver, those batteries will be phased out quicker than any technology ever implemented in transportation. We need to keep engines the same, but with different fuels. Hydrogen, be it that there will be a surplus of it on earth once the poles reverse, is the only way to save our planet: use a much as possible with that is left of the land.

  • @slyclone74 is it just me, or did this video have nothing to do with a) electric cars nor b) hydrogen?

  • The point is, they are trying to reduce the impact from the production of a bio-fuel. Making biofuel out of corn is much more harmful to the environment than algae is. They use the lipids from the algae which is basically diesel, to run the car (so they dont need to make cars running on algae itself...)

I do agree with your suggestion on lithium ion batteries though.

  • Lithium-ion batteries are very 'expensive' when you consider the amount of harmful emissions that are involved in their production.

Petroleum (what Americans refer to as 'gas') also actually takes up a fair chunk of fossil fuels (and hence emissions) to produce, where not directly, then via the various components involved in its transportation/acquisition/production.

Algae can be 'grown' anywhere in the world in a variety of climates. Localized 'fuel' production and a self-sustaining cycle.

  • Beyond that, is there any component you can name in the production of petroleum based products that actually consumes Co2?

    Any at all?

    Just one?

The production of algae, as mentioned in this video, consumes Co2 as a vital component of its growth. Without it, it can't grow as well as it would with a good mixture of Co2/oxygen.

I haven't taken a chemistry class in my life and even I can understand what the 'carbon' in 'carbon dioxide' represents...

  • Corbon Dioxide= One molecule of Carbon and two of Oxigen.

  • but it might cut our carbon foot print to 30% to 60%

  • green turds

  • dog crap could also be used to create more bullshit

  • true

  • 弊端是什么?

  • thats amazing

  • whoa that kool

  • en español porfavooor ;)

  • anything is better than fossil fuels

  • Its going to cause more or less the same problems.

  • how?

  • The products of combustion will still be water+co2.

  • AGREE !

  • the idea is great

  • gjlkjh

  • sustainable cycle ! you use the algae to take in sunlight and CO2 and you use it as fuel to replace the CO2 that is being used. lol if we have more algae than the amount of CO2. we have a new planet!!!!

  • WHATS THAT

  • burn algaes or burn oil, if u burn u will get co2. Same problem, different fuel. Use hidrogen cells, they r already developed.

  • Exactly

  • lol , i got this project done in my final year college project but even better with solar panels and algae to fasten the growth in moist and damp temperature room in 2004

  • TIRO CERTEIRO MATA BANDIDO VEJAM :

    /watch?v=5_vLObY9h9Q

  • Watch JakeR lights FIREWORK in house. Very funny and probably the best shit to see on YOU TUBE so far.

  • I want to start using this fuel.

  • I hope this can really get going. Not that I like the idea of driving millions of cars forever, but people won't stop burning gas unless there's something else to take it's place.

Don't buy ethanol though, it's bogus. No significant environmental gain, and it drives up the price of corn and starves the poor.

  • haha i was doing this as final year project last year, it was really cool,

  • i hope so 2

  • hmm

  • Great, something that keeps cars on the road, builds more cars and more roads. Why is this good?

  • Just say "I'm american, I don't understand this, I don't understand anything" and that will suffice.

  • Because...they are finding an alternate resource that also does less damage to the environment!

  • The more we try and understnad nature the further we drive ourselves from it.

  • the planet doesn't need energy. Humans need energy, or so we keep telling ourselves. This video has many logistic errors, and ethical paradoxes. Anthropocentric any one??...

  • hope it works out =D

  • feel-good music.

  • Omg its about damn time. IM SO FOR THIS

  • Now that's cool.

  • HELL YEA BACK THAT ASS UP

  • I think many people make a wierd assumption that we can somehow produce CO2 out of thin air. Once CO2 is pulled out of the atmosphere by Algae, it is there until it is released through biological functions or its burned for fuel. In which case the same amount of CO2 is released as a biproduct.

The thing is we are not introducing more CO2 in the atmosphere like with Oil. Instead we trap the CO2 already there and put it back in making the system closed.

  • The bigger issue is producing enough CO2 so Algae can grow effeciently. I don't think CO2 produced from man-kind currently can produce a sufficient amount of CO2 to massively grow algae farms.

  • fuck allah

  • We have done something earlier. Now it's almost too late.

  • ohh, poor algae :cccc

  • I like this post

  • sooo cool

  • What about doing it in a better for our planet and for us and all the living creatures?. Wouldn't it be much better if we use engines that don't pollute the air we have to breath?. Are we going to keep polluting the air of our cities for ever? There are much better alternatives, from air car to electric car for example.

  • this thing wont solve the co2 issue. once you start burning the fuel, carbon will be released again. its the same with trees, when they die, they decompose and release co2. we're screwed.

  • Yes, but that same carbon will be tied back in by the same algae's photosynthesis. I see this as an indirect solar power.

  • I LOVE THE CONCEPT! nice research..congratz! P.S.. i hate algae..algae..algae( all types og algae) they mess my planted tank and very dificult to take it off...algae sucks!

  • what will happen to the fuel tank? will the algae grow on it?

  • no, you'll burn oil or gas from algae in your fuel tank.

  • Well ! Let's hope it will come !

  • I dont like algae. we all know that it thinks that its better than us!

  • OMG!!!! this is awesome!!! we need this NOW!

  • one of the vids with best definition I've seen on youtube

  • Dude! This is perfect! Sell it at the gas station and I'll be all over that stuff.

  • The parasites known as Humans needs to be controlled, currently based on efficiency, demands, technology and pretty much everything 'needed', humans by far have overpopulated this world and we are nothing more than parasites, statistically less than 2% of humanity is needed while the rest poisons this planet and destroys everything, much like a virus.

Mass genocide will save this planet XD

  • Don't worry it's coming. Just hope you are one of the 500 million left.

  • I didnt mean to be offensive but dealing with stats AND biology, sometimes I dont know if I am working with humans or microbes, we have identical traits, sure people can say that is normal since cells do the same stuff, but being compared to microbes is not a thing to be taken lightely.

Personally I cant understand peoples obsession with having kids "just because you can, doesnt mean you should".

  • I don't understand the obsession with having kids either. I know the Earth is already overpopulated, and it is growing at exponential rates (which people don't get). And the Earth can only support so much life. It's big, but it is finite.

But I sincerely believe there is population reduction coming courtesy of the Global Elite. Ever heard of the Georgia Guidestones?

  • ever seen idiocracy? i fear that might actually come true, of course not that exaggerated but something similar

  • "I don't understand the obsession with having kids". I do. Evolution by natural selection has made us animals that try to reproduce as much as possible (like all other animals). Feelings such as pride over parenthood, the wish to settle and create a home, the strong family ties which automatically arise towards offspring; the mere fact that we find sex extremely pleasant and attractive and will go out of our way to look for it. All this says our obsession to have kids is natural and instinctive.

  • The picture quality on this video is amazing.

  • i though you could use cannabis as fuel?

  • 1:40 She is pretty.

  • No kidding.

  • FREE SUBS!!!

  • ого, вы тут столько понаписывали)))

  • i said it before and i'll say it again. I WILL ALWAYS BE A BIRD NO MATTER WHAT.

  • Lets see that again. But there are other areas that algae is profitable like pharmusticles and cosmetics. Phar-mus-ticles. what the hell is that?? Aint no word like that in my dickshonarry. Mine says ( pharmaceuticals ) I'm sure if you had one handy it would say the same thing. The age of texting is going to turn us all into a pack of 3rd grade spellers at best.

  • the age of texting has not had a perceptible effect on university student assignments. not only that but kids today are writing more than any society ever has. 50years ago, you would leave school andalmost never construct a proper paragraph again. now we do over 30% of ourwriting on our own time, willingly. we, as a generation, are better at accommodating for our audiences. weknow it is more important about why you are writing and who you are writing to. than we adapt our language as we see fit.

  • Yes, Wall-e knows the truth

  • hahahah do i still sound like i give a rats ass on what you think about me? I will always be a BIRD no matter what.

i guess this wrap things up, huh? : )

  • It sounds like the idea here is to prolong the usefulness of, and thus the damaging effects of, the combustion engine. Would it not, instead, be more intelligent to invest in the research and development of other, greener modes of transport?

  • Comment removed

  • this sounds like a great plan!

  • This guy ends with the statement "for once the government and corporations are all aligned around one central problem." As if government isn't the twenty dollar whore of business and industry. In my humble opinion there is a not so subtle conservative message in this video. Oh...there goes government again...impeding the progress of science and technology. Not leaving business and industry alone to improve the lot of the average taxpayer. That's government for you. blah blah blah...

  • Cool Beans :)

  • Like This You Like Myn Watch My Video Many Thanks

  • ive got a question! ok this will reduce the CO2, right! ok that will help the ambient , and later if this goes right we wont need to use petroleum in a future! They are using water (to grow the algae)! and my question is: this is going to reduce the amount of freshwater that we have? some places in the world are worried of running out of freshwater! This experiment wont affect us in a future?

  • @newgargola18 Algae can grow in wastewater or even salt water.

  • lol talk about going green.

  • You know, it finally feels good to say that...

It's about damn time we started using something other than fossil fuels for transportation!! It's the reason why Iraq was invaded; with algae, it can be produced anywhere, so no need to depend on (or invade) outside sources of fuel for every country that uses algae.

    Peace all around :D

  • i know what you mean but wut should make u feel even better is. this was discovered in 1995. private companies have testing the use and efficiency without us ever knowing!!! now that its proven to be less harmful to the environment and the current green movement our country is headed towards, its most logical to broadcast this discovery now~!!!!!
