HI , GREAT VIDEO, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE YOU GOT THE FOREWAY NIPPLE WRENCH .LOOKS EASY TO USE THEN THE ONE I GOT .I GOT THE SCREW DRIVER SET YOU WAS SHOWING ,,GREAT FOR MY 1851 NAVY.
Hi, i have a question... I just reseaved a 1851 navy colt .44 cal with a brass frame for christmas and i am a avide deer hunter and maryland law states that u have to use 40 grains of powder to hunt with a black powder handgun and i was woundering if 35 grains would hurt the gun?
@TheTac50 If Maryland law states that you have to use 40 grains, then why do you want to use 35 grains? So you can break the law?
And why would you want to hunt deer with the weakest .44 there is, a cheap brass-frame? Yes, 35 grains is too much for that gun. Sell that brass frame and use the money towards something that will be accurate and powerful enough to work.
@glynamus It is a restricted firearm here in Canada (reproductions) feared by Liberals and Socialists across the land even though an original 1851 Colt is not, You don't even have to have a licence to buy or own an original! In Canada, a restricted firearm must be trigger locked and case locked to be transported, and only to the range and back or to a registered gunsmith by the most direct rout reasonably possible. :)
Do you happen to know if installing a conversion cylinder requires gunsmithing? I think I maybe interested in getting an 1851 Navy but with a conversion. Thanks.
@hogsnplanes ok Thanks a lot of guys say to tear it all down and put it in a tub of water. I don't really feel comfortable doing that. You never have any rust problems with this method do you? Thanks so much for the replys btw
@hibylittle8 I tried that way, lots of folks here do it too but you get some rust, I don't like the boiling water & all that so I brush it, patch it with butches blend and oil it with 1000 plus. I do the muzzle loaders the same way.
Doesn't take me any longer and no surface rust. Just make sure you get all the fouling.
@ZombieExpress Marstar sells Pietta, lower quality but lower price than the Uberti in the video. Pietta does have this 1851 Navy model and the guarantee with it from Marstar.

@TheTac50 Depends on the manufacturer, Uberti says 30 grains max for .44 round ball and 25 grains max for .454 conical. Brass frame may be lower.
"Never exceed the manufacturer's recommended loads."
I would check the manual or contact the manufacturer, be safe :)

@speeedracerr The ones I've seen fit right on, Colts are a pain becouse you have to remove the barrel to reload.
Remington is much easier.

@hogsnplanes Thanks. How do you clean yours after shooting?
hibylittle8 5 months ago
@hibylittle8 I just remove the barrel & cylinder then clean with patches and swabs with black Butches powder solvent.
I always remove the nipples & clean them and the threads.
End of season I do a complete tear down clean and lube.
