@Matt68046 They kinda had a "polite disagreement" at some point. When you dig a little deeper, it wasn't so polite. Still, nothing too bad. Chamberlin now plays in Skysaw. That said, this new kid Mike is SO AWESOME I wish I could hug him through the internets. He's the perfect balance between tribute and competence. Plus, he totally gets it.
@Trent3380: Well thanks a lot! It really doesn't make a difference which words you decide to use, especially when you're right. I mean the condescending obviously worked because you understood exactly what I said.
I was there and my only (small) disappointment was when Billy got the lyrics wrong "In a dream we are forsaken.." the original song says "in a dream we are connected, siamese twins, at the wrist, and I knew we were forsaken, expelled from there I'll die..." This has been my favorite song by them ever since the siamese dream album came out. All and all, I loved the concert and hope to see them again next year.
First of all, everyone who is saying that Byrne can't play this song very well is stupid. This is even the version to be critiquing - go and listen to him on the full version of the concert that's being heavily watched right now. The kid is fucking amazing behind the kit. He's even doing things with the songs that Chamberlin didn't even do.
@joostin46 im gonna say you try and fill in for jimmy cahmberlin. no the kid is not JIMMY get over that. but hes good. unless your better you have NOTHING to say.
@mdogg094 Your argument is invalid. Not being better at something than someone does not forbid one from offering an honest critique of their performance.
That being said, I could drum circles around that guy.
@joostin46 im gonna say you try and fill in for jimmy chamberlin. no the kid is not JIMMY get over that. but hes good. unless your better you have NOTHING to say.
I suggest you stop following for a second, listen to Jimmy C or even Matt Walker - then see if you can objectively say Mike B is a "professional" of the same caliber. If so, your orbital frontal lobes are more impaired than I imagined and I would seek a qualified brain injury center ASAP- Don't get me wrong, he's not bad, just not close. Honesty hurts but its necessary at times. So is reality. Peace in SP
@trent3380 Listen, I'm not going to get into an argument with you about this. There's too much of that on YouTube as it is. If you don't like his playing, don't listen to it. Instead, watch the videos where Jimmy Chamberlin played with the band. I respect your opinion, but please, lose your insolence.
@trent3380 Worth a DAM (spelled like that) originated from the indian currency's equivalent of the penny. Thus to say "i dont give a dam" was to say i care little to none. it has evolved much to today, where people generally assume it means "i dont give a damn" (DAMNation)
@easternmind it's not "like" my opinion. It's IS my opinion and trust me I'm not the only one. In fact, many people who've actually seen this band play in the Gish, SD, and MCIS eras would issue a similar "opinion"
Byrne isnt bad - he's just nothing like JC - its just a difference - no reason to get angry or upset-
@trent3380 i'm not angry or upset ^_^ it's all the same, your opinion against someone else's. i'm sure the new record will sell well, they've been selling out all their Teargarden box sets. go new pumpkins!
@trent3380 Let us see YOU try to drum this song in front of a few thousand people......if you are successful then you can criticize Mike.
Also a "professional" drummers drums for a living....that is what Mike does....so he is a professional. Define a word fully before you use it in your arguments.
@kanookle The argument is flawed when you have to revert to "let's see you do it". Im a surgeon, just because I can "do it" doesn't mean I'm skilled and at the top of my game. In fact, anyone who've ever had a negative surgical result can support that sentiment. Also, the act of "doing it" is not the barometer of success. Finally, let's be honest with ourselves - If Billy didn't pull this kid out of a random audition, he'd still be at the Berklee College of Music
@kanookle That is to say that autonmously Mr. Byrne has no chance of earning a "living" without Billy. One last thing I can promise you - the moment Jimmy C decides to stop complaining and wants to return to SP, Mike's ride will be over. In the interim, I certainly appreciate Billy's efforts in putting a group together that can adequately play some of the best songs ever written. Its just not the group that made them special.
@trent3380 beyond the fact I nor you should generally have any use for a 'professional' drummer in rock and roll - I myself am partial to the sound of somebody's wrist getting destroyed - he is actually highly technical. But he isn't playing JC's parts, which is only proper imo. Now, you stop being biased for a sec, close your eyes andtll me it doesn't make for a more muscular and rhythmically solid version of the band / songs. I loved the JC roll-fest but I also like a grooving pumpkins - peace
@telecomvideo different opinions are what makes this world great- I appreciate what Billy's doing given the obstacles and personality problems he's had to deal with over the years. That said, this line up is not what made this band special. Thats not to say, they are not enjoyable to listen to, they are just not exceptional as a group. If you removed Billy from the picture, I'm pretty sure no one would care.
Thanks for the video- Billy does indeed rock - but Mike on drums is like Justin Beiber on vocals- his work on this video is amateur at best - If you're going to get a drummer - find a professional - otherwise - they collapse in the shadow
