todd martin was the greatest player to never win a major...but now it's got to be Blake...seems roger's got an answer to everything he does though....one of these days blake will win the big one!!!
as far as american players go, yeah... but these days, Blake isn't even in the league of Murray, Del Potro, Tommy Haas, or even Tsonga or Gonzo. Even Nalbandian would be a better fit for that title... Blake hasn't even reached a grand slam semifinal in his entire career.
his backhand seems more viscous than his forehand. so which side do you hit it to? i would go straight at his body. i would hit to his feet. playing federer at angles would be a mistake during these times. i would mix it up with spins and slices with mixture of speed.
they don't call him Federer the great for nothing. Rogie has got the sickest freaking forehand and backhands ever, and no matter how crazy they look he always makes them, amazing.
respond to tweekurs, at 3:25, blake hits down the middle on purpose to prevent federer to make cross court angle pass. but still, hitting either way will be a winner from federer. he is too quick.
I don´t understand why people call blake a choker, that´s such an insult, he is one of the most agressive players in the game and goes for his shots..nadal can´t be blake on hard!
agree agree, but it looks to me blake played tooo agressive, and open up for fed, gave fed to much of a rhythm, and i notice blake hit alot of inside out forehand and went for the winner, and expect fed would "hit the ball back to where it came from"or give a weak return, lot of the points r similar, blake went the HUGE inside out forehand, and fed just simply block it back (easier said then done i know, but fed did it) and blake didnt try to break fed rhythm he just try to break feds racqeut xD
I think if Federer wants to stay at Number 1 he will have to play this sort of agression. He cant sit back and rely on slice, slice passing shot to win it anymore, not against the likes of Djokovic.
3:25 is perfect example of blake retardation, instead of going down the line he hits it right down the middle and then comes into net and get toasted silly nub
wow, this is right up there with the ass whooping that A-roddick got from Fedexpress a couple years back. Fed seemed to be really on his game against blake. But then again when is he not?
Blake is..... to un pro for roger federer. Federer is number one. Through out the year he even got beaten by some NUBES. Well ur video is great. Waiting for 2007's master cup video
the atp players today are just as good as the players in the 90s and 80s. only problem is that federer is so dominant. he demolishes every single one of his opponents because he is basically ridiculously talented. he can place the ball where ever he wants. he can even aim for their nuts and get the match over with but he's too nice to do that. lol
i'm tired of how everyone says federer is not playing against very good players
well he's beaten agassi and sampras too (age is just an excuse, agassi beat everyone to get to the U.S. Open final, that means he WAS fit enough for the tournament, same goes for pistol pete)
And before Fed fans flame me, Landl is a legendary player whom was perceived as invincible at his prime even when Conners, Borg, and Mac were around. Shame, there isn't a great natural net players nowdays. Where did they all go?
The rackets nowadays made the baseline game too strong, so unless your approaches are nearly perfect, you will get passed at higher levels. And even Wimbledon is making it easier to pass people by slowing itself down. And it's "Lendl"...
agreed federer is very good but i dont think that blake is no where close to agassi in their respective prime and feel that u are as good as your oppenent are sampras oppenents were far better than what federer is facing today and by the way federer vs nadal head to head is 8-4 in favour of nadal
I've been watching tennis for 30 years, and in my opinion, Federer is the best I've ever seen. Roger is just awesome. His shotmaking skills are just on another level. His one handed backhand is LETHAL. You could just see the will of Blake break point after point. If I were to bet on a match between Sampras in his prime against Federer, I'd go with Federer. Pete had a big serve, but he would have no answer to Roger's shot placement.
I do not watch tennis as much as I used to, but I can see Fed is pretty good. He is like Ivan Landl but with better backhand and volley. But I am not sure if I can call him the greatest because I have not seen him play against top notch net players yet. For all I know, before Fed reached his prime, Henman used to be very effective using his aggresive net play. And I know for fact that Henman is not even a natural volley player.
all u fed fans consider sampras was lucky that federer did not played in sampras era let me tell all fed fans out there u just need to look at players federer playing against and what sampras was playing against all of federer fans u just need to look at sampras vs agssi wimbledon 99 final the manner in which sampras dismantelled agassi in 3 sets and that performance of sampras in final is still considered by almost by all expert as the best by any player in the history of the tennis
I don't know about that, divooneh007 ... Nadal isn't exactly a slacker. He's constantly improving his game (I think he would have actually won Wimbledon had the rain not forced him to five best-of-five-set matches IN A ROW), and his clay-court game is phenominal. Now, I'm not saying Federer WON'T win the French, I'm just saying that he has his work cut out for him ...
wasn't Nadal 2 sets down to Youzhny? Be happy Youzhny and his old back injury he's had since before RG flared up during that match because had Youzhny not get injured NADAL would have lost and lost badly or would have lost to Djokovic, you know the same Djokovic who broke Nadal 3 times in 1 sets?Be happy Nadal made the finals but don't push it with the whole rain excuse!
You do have me there, I'm afraid ... Djokovic was kicking ass until an injury caught up with him, too. Hmm. Youzhny is actually one of my favorite players, especially with his sign-off salute, and I'm really hoping he makes it to Shanghai this year ...
Agassi returns differently from Roger.Sampras was a S/V player but Federer is all court player.Pete did win the USO the year he lost to Roger at Wimbledon so the idea of him being finished is rubbish to say the least.Sampras never had the footwork/speed of Roger and certainly never had those shots.Sampras only made 1 semis at RG his whole career while Roger has been the 2nd best player on clay and making 2 straight RG finals proves just that.
that's because sampras is not match for federer. Never was or gonna be. He was just lucky that Federer was born a bit earlier. Sampras wouldn't have been a legend with a guy like that in his path. Unfortunately Fed has to deal with Nadal but only struggles on clay.
I meant , lucky that fed "wasn't born" a bit earlier. Sampras would be no match for some of today's tennis players. Sampras wasn't anything special in clay either. Federer owns everyone but sometimes loses against Nadal on clay. Big deal...
Tremendous from Roger Federer. Blake was pushing Federer very hard, especially on the backhand side, but Federer responded with sublime shots to win the points. Pleasure to watch Federer play.
i think he will be considerd a more dominant player at his sport than Micheal Jordan and he, in my opinion of course, was the most dominant athlete ever before federer came along. Just my opinion, you can agree or not but its worth saying about definatly one og the best people to ever play their sport
I agree with John Loyd, no one has ever played better tennis than the last 2 sets he played against roddick. Its a shame, people think that federer is in a time that tennis players are not a good as thay were. I think they are better than they have ever been and its just federer is the most unbelieveable player to ever play his sport, if he keeps his dominance up, even if he doesn't win roland garros,
After this match federer said he could'nt play any better than he did that day. In Australia against Roddick, the usual is for federer to play out of this world, that day he was out of this universe.
This is the best backhand hitting display from Federer that I have ever seen. I think the win over Roddick at the Australian Open 2007 surpasses even over this one against Blake.
good times :((

ridiculous backhand exhibition...
that was the time when federer was at his best and seemed unbeatable, and made incredible shots every time he touched the ball.
he still is the king of tennis but doesn't seem invincible any more

this shows the obvious strategic brilliance of Federer... Federer's shots were always to the corners even when he was on the defensive.
Blake on the other hand played too many in the center(and not deep enough) where Federer could easily smash the ball for an angled winner
