I love to draw, by chance I found your lesson on cake decorating pattern of cocoa. I am opposed to love it!! This is wonderful! Thanks for the lesson, very useful, because of the mold coating, I do not know how, and with the creams I have a problem. Sorry for my English, I from Russia badly know your language.
It honestly looks like carbon copy paper was used for the tracing. I wouldn't recommend it, but at the time it was probably considered 'alright' for consumption See the other video here entitled 'Impressing a pattern onto your cake ...'
Still this will give you an indent so I don't know about plain tracing
@thviolet I think she said she'd put the design on that way just so the camera could see it... I wouldn't impress the pattern on because there would be an indented surface the painting is not likely to fill in. I usually just lightly scribe the pattern on and with my lighting hitting it from the right angle I can see it but after the decorative work is done it has disappeared. Regs... Megs
@evangelinebm You could take a design on a piece of paper, hold it up to where you want it to go, and run over the lines with a toothpick so that you're indenting the fondant with lines. It probably won't show once you paint over it.

I'm so glad I know how to draw, or else making beautiful professional looking cakes would be difficult for me.
