isn´t there a huge diference in the dificulty of the space task and this one? I doubt that 100 genomes can be decoded in 10 days by a private person. on the other hand it would make the X Price Foundation very amazing.

This may be amazing but do you realize that this could corrupt insurance companies? If insurance companies know that you will get a disease then won't they automatically charge you more? Additionally, the genome will allow us to analyze human potential, thus degrading the constant persistence of many people. If you know your genome is that of a McDonald's employee, you wouldn't exactly try for above that would you?

...If insurance companies know that you WON'T get a disease, then they'll charge you LESS - they already do that for non-smokers. And if you know your potential, you'll save a lot of time trying to do something else. All work is respectable - somebody picks up your garbage for you, don't they? There are already all kinds of tests that help a person to determine their more successful direction in life - this would just be another one.

This is leading the way to cure diseases before they strike. As far as the insurance industry is concerned, they can be controled by a statutory scheme that prevents them from using gene mapping as a way to exclude people from having insurance.
