@Mordecai2013 dude that part still gives me trouble to this day and i would know it if the freakin camera man got it cleanly. the hardest part and of course the camera man fucks it up when i need him most.
@JoshBlumeSound lol do u even play bass? that is a fantastic jazz bass solo by a very versatile bassist. the man has a couple of em too. (disease, injury, and madness, and also mirrors are 2) and not every bass player has to slap. many people call it tacky. general rule of thumb about skilled bass players: we know what the hell we're talking about.
@honk1390 No, it doesn't :) Fusion is fusion, jazz is swing. I know a lot of people believe fusion, funk, or bossa nova is jazz, but it isn't! I believe in Wynton Marsalis' view on jazz. The only real jazz is played the way it was over a century ago. The Pops Foster bass line, Jelly Roll Morton, etc... Swing has developed in many ways, but any straight-eighth form of music isn't jazz. I know you'll disagree, but we'll just agree to disagree. To me, swing is an arbitrary thing.
@honk1390 And by the way, not to bash Metheny (because I love the guy), but if you think Pat or Jaco is jazz, you aren't a true listener of jazz. Jaco especially, wrote some original funk and fusion stuff, but no jazz. Metheny writes worldly, earthly, groove-oriented music. I'm sorry, I just get really touchy on this subject. Jazz is so unique, that no one person can call fusion jazz.
@KillswitchEngage42 im a huge fan of count basie, thelonius monk kinda stuff and i wouldnt be the jazz musician i am today without miles. jazz is a very versitile style which i have studied for years. but no need to be sorry bro! its nice to talk to a jazz listener who also listens to metal. i dont know many unfortunatly.
@honk1390 Hell yeah man! Ray Brown and Oscar Peterson are my heroes! As well as Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen. Cool man. I think I listen to small-group jazz so much because of the small-group setting that metal musicians are in. Matter of fact, I just played "Four" today at a concert. Haha Nice man
@KillswitchEngage42 yeah i play bass in a jazz quintet. Four is actually one of our favorite songs out of the Real Book. i also love Joe Henderson and Chick Corea.
@honk1390 Haha That's funny! Henderson is a great sax player! I tell ya, Stan Getz is one to look up too. There is so much straight-eighth music in Henderson and Corea. :) The swingin' man!
@RelaxBrodysseus You know when you listen to ridiculous pop music when you're thirteen? Killswitch Engage was my ridiculous pop music. I just realized too, that my outlook on jazz six months ago was awful haha
@Frobe77 That is the most ignorant comment I've ever seen... You've obviously never listened to a jazz style bassist take a solo before.. What would you rather him play?

@honk1390 This isn't jazz my friend :) Jazz is swing, swing is jazz. This is a great written bass solo though. Dan is a fantastic player.

@KillswitchEngage42 jazz has SO much more than swing my friend. this in my mind is fusion jazz. kinda like Metheny or Jaco.

If you are going to play a bass solo play a BASS solo, not a guitar solo played an octave below.
Frobe77 1 year ago
@Frobe77 how was that not a bass solo? who are you to say how to play a bass solo?
Failplan 1 year ago
@Frobe77 I'm sorry, is your definition of a bass solo a string of random quarter notes? Sorry Dan exceeds your expectations to the hundredth degree.
BtArocks3133 1 year ago
@Frobe77 then whats the point of having high frets on a bass? just to look pretty and not play them? your retarded
