  • Thanks for sharing this - I've watched documentaries on home births before, but never really seen everything that goes into preparing for it.

  • @SimTTCPCOS This is just the material side of things - it is kind of fun to get it all together and feel prepared. Definitely a big part of nesting for me. I think with birth in any setting the most energy goes into preparing yourself emotionally, though!

  • It's so interesting to see what you need for a home birth! On to part 2 :)

  • @kyleandjessP Hope you learned something! :)

  • Greetings, I am going to have my 3rd homebirth in september and hopefully my first waterbirth. I actually bought the same birth tub you have. Could you give the directions for emptying the tub out? Do I just need the same 3-4 supplies you mention in this video? Do you empty the water through the faucet attachment?

  • @tiaglad The faucet adapter in y video uses the water pressure of the sink to drain the pool. You reverse the flow by opening the valve at the bottom of the piece where the silver screw is, and the water drains right down your sink drain. It is quite easy, and no mess, no buckets, no work! And it's quiet. You can find them for just a couple of dollars, often near aquarium supplies or even for waterbeds. Another alternative for draining is old fashioned siphoning or you can purchase a pump, but

  • cont'd... they are expensive for just a one time thing. Some drain into the sink or bathtub, others drain out a window or door into the garden. A net is essential to strain any particulate out of the H2O so the hose does not become plugged. My "must haves" supplies would be - pool, drinking quality hose (not garden), small net, faucet adapter. Liner is optional if you own the tub. Floor protection is a good idea too. Oh and towels, lots of towels. I will try to explain more in our dry run video.

  • @tiaglad Also, to get suction to pull the h2o out of the pool, you must 1st close the valve at the bottom and turn the cold water on full blast for a sec like u did to fill the pool. This allows the pressure to build, then rotate the valve into the 'open' position while leaving the h2o running. It will reverse the flow with suction and drain the pool. Don't turn off the sink! U have to keep the cold water turned on while it drains; that's where the pressure providing the suction is coming from.

  • @oochygoochygoo thank you so much for replying so quickly. I thankfully have everything except the faucet adapter, net, and hose. Where exactly did you get yours (store)? When are you due b/c I cant wait to see the f/u video. You seem VERY organized and have inspired me beyond measure lol.

  • @tiaglad I'm 37 weeks today, due August 1st. I usually go right around my due date, not early or late so we'll see! You can find all 3 items you need at a pet/aquarium supply store, (Python is a good brand which I used with my last birth), but I ordered what you see in my video through birth with love dot com, they delivered within a couple of days. You might be able to find a net at the dollar store or walmart to save $.

  • @oochygoochygoo Ok i found all 3 items at walmart (I dread and never go to this store lol) but Im a little unsure if I got the right faucet adaptor. It is a called a Y-adaptor does that sound correct? its shaped like a Y basically and there is a close off valve for each end of the Y?

  • @tiaglad LAST but not least - Almost forgot the air pump! You don't want to inflate the pool using just your lungs! ;) That was a lot of info, should have just sent you a message but maybe others will read this and find it useful. Best of luck to you!

  • i loved the phrase "birth goo", pretty much covers everything. LOL. Arnica is great stuff, will be so nice to use during a post-partum massage to soothe away any aches or muscle tension.

  • @StoliDassah Yes, the arnica oil for post partum for sure! After my last birth my arms were sooooo sore and I don't even know what the heck I must have been doing with them during the birth as it didn't last that long. I wish I would have had some on hand!

  • I LOVE watching these birth kit videos.. I hope I am able to have a home birth with my second baby!

  • @JenNTim509 I'm glad you liked it! Home birth has been an amazing experience for me, I'm looking forward to this one even more now knowing what birth can be like. :)
