@DrDioxin hey mate. this is actually not in any scale its just something i came up with by ear. i liked it at the time. i dont usually uses theory when i write metal. just write what you think sounds good. if you keep writing that way i believe it becomes easy to hear whats going on

THIS IS A LESSON IN PICKING. not trying to make the riff sound awesome and technical it just has some characteristics of how Tech metalers play there riffs. its a good starter rather then jumping right in the deep end on a tech metal song and trying to learn it. some technical death metal has some serious advanced playing in it so you need to start from somewhere. thats all im trying to do. if you people keep commenting saying its shit and im a shit player you have no idea what im capable of

@zenveggite people are getting this wrong. its not about how difficult the riff is. it was just a made up riff to teach people about alternate picking over a few strings. has nothing to do with the riff trying to be crazy. if you want difficult riffs i sagest you check out Wrath of Nephthys with me and dave haley from psycroptic.. the album should be out in a few months.. this is NOT a riff to show off its just a lesson in picking!

I agree; speeding it up would make it lose it's sound. You wouldn't be able to hear each individual note. It would be pointless. Unless you're into that kind of "I don't know what I'm listening to, but it sounds cool" type of thing. It sounds good the way it is. The level of technicality has nothing to do with it's speed. Look at Meshuggah; they are technical with polyrythms, but they aren't super fast. Speed makes it sound sloppy man. We want chunky technical riffs, not blurred shit.

It doesn't surprise me that you think this is metalcore, because your definition of metalcore is completely wrong.

That style of riffing came from melodic death metal, which metalcore steals off a lot of the time, but this is pure tech/death metal riffing and there is nothing metalcore about it.

no the sound is fine, I just thought the riff sounded kind of like a bunch of notes randomly strung together, and you kept playing the open whatever your bottom string is, is it a seven string? But yeah I just thought maybe you should not just riff off the bottom string because it sounds kind of monotonous, you know go for something that isn't stuck with the same idea of just playing notes in the minor scale and hitting the root note repeatedly.

I have an SG-Style DeArmand 7 String guitar in the attached video response. My Singer is Reverend RIDIN' DIRTY JEREMIAH WRIGHT. I did the music in Apple Logic & I basically play air drums, air guitar & air bass, but on non-air instruments in the video. Doesn't my singer kick butt?
