I totally agree... the tuning was waaay off. At the time i didn't have (or use) a temp gun. so i was hesitant to start tuning needles without knowing if the truck was at temp.. hard thing to know when its snowing and such.. actually surprised is ran as good as it did. alot of moisture in the air, wet air cleaner, motor temps dropping with every snowbank..tough with nitro.. thanks..
when i ran it in deep snow or really "pushed" the limits of the truck, it got hot quick, even tho the air temp was low it wasn't enough to compensate. When i ran my 8th scale in the snow(see other vid), it never got TOO hot because there was less rotating mass- smaller tires..
i never grew up with waterproof servos.. basically if you get electronics wet, they will perform poorly or "weird" when run afterwards. but as they are used(essentially "dried" off) they will start to work normal again. i never had any problems with my servo's(or rec.) because i always dried them off right after..goes right back to the basics of rc maitinance. if you stay on top of it, you just roll with it and clean up your mess..
EVERYTIME i run any rc in the snow, i immidiately put it in front of a 10K btu propane heater and melt off everything. i just keep heating it until all the moisture steams away. clean and dry.. a quick spray of WD40(because it evaporates slightly) to lube it up till next time.. never had anything but the finish to the cheaps screws rust. the 8th scale in the other vid would almost double in wt. due to the snow packed into it... but 10 minutes later, like it never happened..
i mentioned in earlier comments that the vehicle in general wasn't entirely ready for the snow. servo response was slow, air cleaner was wet and the motor temp went +- to much to get it dialed...im sure with all the rc's you have owned & run in the snow, you know what i mean.
a d box is something used in drift r/c cars that countersteers for you when it detects the angle of the car.. it pretty much take the skill out of doing anything involving drifting
Honestly, i don'y even know how it lasted thru a tank. Not winter prepped , weak throttle servo and poor tuning and , well you can hear for yourself..
I made them.. I always promised to show just how easy it is to make them, should do that for all interested. Hardest part is laying out the cash for the chains, the rest is more like a custom fit to your tires. These tires were cut with craftsman 1/2 nippers, turning the solid bar of rubber " lugs" . So fitting the chains was unique to each tire.. Email me and i will tell you size of chain and general setup....
wow, you must really be into rc's because you have sooo many posted.. wow like the one of the white rc driving in the blinding snow on mute... man i just love that one..
Its about heat management. In the winter your motor wont get as hot, so there is much less chance of damage due to overheating/abuse. The flip side is that if its too cold, the motor can't reach the best temp to run at. This motor was waaay out of tune, but i ran it anyway. Motor is still running just fine..
i ALWAYS put any snow covered vehicle in front of a heater and make sure it is dry and ready for next time. be sure to keep your rec'r dry and tight as well. if you always do this then your good. if you had a water proof servo, then there is less to worry about but as a rule you should get right of any moisture right after, if not your in for trouble..frozen shocks, etc..snow runs rule..
Hay if any one is interested I make my own studed tires,I get stainless screws at sears their about 1/3" long and their corse thread I turn the tire in side out and then I pok a hole with a small screw driver then I put GOOP on the threads and head and screw it in.I have a pattern that makes it four studs wide with nine studs per tire for the most srface area and least weight.
it was a bit on the lean side, but i really didn't care at the time. thanks for watching the whole thing and commenting on the "tuning" part...great job ....
1st , id love to see another maxx that would have as much grip as this one considering the conditions. i hold my own just fine. it ran a full tank without stalling and i didn't break a thing-is was 24*. as for jumps, well i know the youngins' love to see big air and all that, in due time...till then lets see what you got... peace....
just richen the fuel that should help when its cold i have a few t-maxxs and revo 3.3s

it was below freezing and it was rather lean on the high speed, proabably 2.5 you can hear the whine of the motor begging for fuel..

the101tmaxx 2 years ago
i mad e the chains and i didn't water proof anything... never had anty rec'r issues, but the servos eventually died.
