  • Me Gusta.

  • so beautiful :) who sings this?

  • this is so relaxing. So beautiful

  • @petispaghetti I'm not one to blame evils on religion unabashedly or to even say that we would be better off without it, but I sort of disagree with this. The creative drive is behind humans not depending on specifics of metaphysical worldview.

  • the score of this music? please!!!

  • @petispaghetti very arrogant of you... kind of goes against your religion doesn't it?

  • This is gorgeous! Such fantastically composed music!

  • I had a Yoga teacher whose "Aum" sounded like a bell tinking. The first minute here sounded like various instruments. Perfect! Perfeito! Parfait!

  • @Shanelololol God and Religion are really not necessary to make humans good, moral and creative:-), but if you are really interested in the discussion I do recommend to read "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

  • @FeresaiStudio Rubbish. Who defines "good?" What is the highest "good?" Certainly I don't trust Richard Dawkins to do it.

  • @FeresaiStudio a deluded person cannot write about delusion

  • Agnus Dei is one part of the Ordinary of the Mass. It means Lamb of God. The Mass is as follows, 1) Kyrie Eleison 2) Gloria 3) Credo 4) Sanctus 5) Agnus Dei.

It must help to be a believer to be able to write such music yes, but there are several Agnostic and Aetheist composers who have written such music. It's not a giveno don't get so hiigh and mighty you Christians.

  • @petispaghetti *Cough* bullcrap *cough*.

  • @HerlockSholmes123 if palestrina wasnt so motivated by God this wouldnt exist. "Agnus Dei" means "Lamb of God" A.K.A. Jesus

  • @Shanelololol disagree, it just human nature, god is not necessary

  • @kkkmarcinkkk respectively i disagree. By nature humans are absolutely self centered and evil. you dont have to teach someone how to do wrong and to please themselves. I believe the only way we could have obtained knowledge and wisdom is through God's intervention. God is absolutely necessary.

  • so this song is all from the same Mass right?

    Kyrie

    Gloria

    Credo

    Sanctus

    Agnus Die

  • GRACIAS A LA PERSONA QUE NOS COMPARTE TAN BELLA Y EXCELSA MÙSICA !!!!

  • @TheDavid2222 I love this and I do not belive there is a god but David was it necessary to call him a name.

There was nothing wrong with disagreeing but was the insult necessary. Why are you so angry?

  • @wondrouskid I just got a little riled up. I don't think insulting is necessary either, but that's only because the insulted individual wouldn't even understand why they were being insulted in the first place.

  • Beautiful! Happy Birthday, Mr. Palestrina.

  • beautiful music !

  • No, "FalDownAndDie", this is the last movement of Palestrina's famous setting of the Ordinary of the mass now called "Missa Papae Marcelli".Nice isn't it? Good composer!

  • i don't believe in a "palestrina" ....or polyphone franco flamande...this "recording" as you call it is just the result of random chemical interactions that began billions of years ago...what i am hearing is just random thermal noise

  • @jcfbell3001 key word: "believe"

  • @Mad0racle

    lol exactly

  • I think of assassins creed when I hear this song...

  • how ironic that human can kill , hate and be evil........... Alas can forgive , love and be kind hearted at the same time just by spreading warm and hopefull sound like this singer .

  • Is this piece really just only titled, "Agnus Dei?" That's the full title? This isn't like a part of a larger composition or something?

  • @FallDownAndDie Agnus Dei is a part of the Catholic Mass

  • @lelutindecouves I'm aware, but is this Agnus Dei section part of a larger composition? If so, what is the title of the full composition?

  • @lelutindecouves it's from Missa Papae Marcelli

  • @FallDownAndDie It's a part of a certain mass called the Missa Papae Marcelli (The Mass of Pope Marcellus)

  • @Statismiks

no is not a Pope Marcellus Mass... i've studied these mass , but the Agnus was different

  • @magisterandrew There were apparently two Agnus Dei scores found with the Mass. This is the "other" one.

  • @FallDownAndDie The whole piece is "Missa Papae Marcelli" ("Mass for Pope Marcellus") The "Agnus Dei" ("Lamb of God") is part of the Mass.

  • @FallDownAndDie

kyrie, gloria, credo, sanctus, agnus dei = the 4 main parts of a catholic mass

  • @FallDownAndDie Its from 'Pope Marcellus Mass'

  • @FallDownAndDie In the text book that I am reading about this piece in it says 'Agnus Dei from Missa Papae Marcelli' :) (but yes, it is also part of the Catholic Mass!)

  • @FallDownAndDie palestrina wrote many mass parts, over 100. Things like this so yes it is.

  • @FallDownAndDie That is from "Missa Papae Marcelli" by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina

  • @FallDownAndDie of course, is a part of the liturgic inside catholic celebration mass, singed like credo or kirye eleison in the called misa del papa marcelo, fom palestrina compossition. the agnus dei means el cordero de dios, the goods lamb.

  • @wolf15011962 Lamb of god wey jajaja!!!

  • @FallDownAndDie Agnus Dei is indeed a part of Mass... but this one is also specifically part of Missa Papae Marcelli by Palestrina (1557), one of the greatest works of polyphony. I think this is Agnus Dei I, and there's another part, Agnus Dei II. The whole Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei I & II) is something you must listen to! :) I would recommend a Westminster Cathedral Choir recording - counterpoint4 uploaded them all, score is included!

  • @FallDownAndDie it's from Missa Papae Marcelli

  • @FallDownAndDie Agnus Dei is latin for Lamb of God - this piece of music is from a the Catholic Mass and it was set to music by many famous composers.

  • Just wonderful how these excellent voices come together in this most beautiful piece of music! Thank you!

  • Thank you for posting this. Long live Holy Mother Church and the Supreme Pontiff Pope Benedict XVI!

  • @petispaghetti Good point, Bach wrote all his music for God and god only!

  • as Westerners the simple fact that we do care about the whole world as if we were all part of a whole family is a direct heritage of the Christ.

Even if you don't believe in God but you're way of thinking was affected by a man who was not a simple man.

That's why 2000 years after and even though you're not a believer you know inside you that this love that you want to share worldwide is a good way of living.

  • @PrinceNeosis Sure, but it's the same thing for all religions. Islam and Judaism is also about loving one another. :)

  • Good music touches the soul and that is THE RELIGION OF MUSIC.

  • Why'd you need a God, when you have this kind of music?

  • The Kingdom of God is Within You, and All Around You.

  • @benz981 if you add words to God's words, you will have to answer for it on the day of judgement.

  • Comment removed

  • @benz981 Does not matter what you say. But I have told you The Truth in The Bible. It is in Luke 17:21

I did not lie when I said you added to God's Word. If God is your God, you would honor His Word and not add your own words, which then deceives others who read it. Jesus is Lord.

  • Comment removed

  • @benz981 regardless of who you call god on this earth, there is only one God in heaven and His Son is Jesus. And the words I quoted are words that came from His mouth and written in the bible. If you repent, He will have mercy on the day of judgment. He is coming soon, whether you believe or not does not change the fact. Every one will have to stand before Him. The ones who believe will not perish in their sins. There is a savior, who came to earth not to condemn but to save sinners.

  • I don't believe in god at all, but this music is simply amazing

  • @annamarie993 what you said made me cry

  • @annamarie993 : same here....

  • I don't go to church but we do a ton of stuff like this in my schools Chamber Choir....basically my way to worship and how I found out about this amazing Composer!

  • ha 1 moron disliked this. -_-

  • If it wasn't for this man, the church would have most definitely went back to singing Gregorian chants and our music wouldn't have been so developed like it is today.

  • beautiful music. whoever dislikes this has no taste for TRUE music.

  • Palestrina was inspired.

  • I've often considered Palestrina to be over-rated - somewhat craftsman-like in his approach and not really all that music historians like to make him out to be. This insanely great composition (which i've never heard before!!!!) proves that i was dead wrong. Thanks, lelutindecouves for posting it!!!!

  • @HolyMotherofGrid I must say I am inclined to agree. Much music is technique, and even this technique like much of Bach's fugues are beautifully made, but utterly beyond the reach of the modern sensibility. Indeed, who but the phlegmatic and the student will listen for hours eitehr to Gregorian Chant or Bach. . . On occasion, one must concede that even ABBA and the Beathles are much more representative of our times and our feelings.

  • @HolyMotherofGrid It may not necessarily be true, it's more of a legend in fact, but it has been said that when Palestrina wrote his 'Pope Marcellus Mass' it single handedly saved polyphonic music being banned from the Catholic church. This is one of the most technical contrapuntal pieces of music ever written and don't ever doubt it!

  • I really like how the beginning is like that of the Kyrie, to trick the listener.

  • @alvovc I personally do not enjoy that fact because both are on my listening exam for my music appreciation class haha.

  • This music was created for the glory of God, it has only this sense. It is the same as it occurs with the great churches built only for the glory of God, churches that unfortunately nowadays have turned into museums because people has lost their faith. I'm christian and it's obvious that the greatness of this music comes for its religious significance. This shows how Christian faith has helped the development of art and music throughout history.

  • @Ignatius831 "This shows how Christian faith has helped the development of art and music throughout history." OR, vice versa!

  • arguing about the existence of God is pointless, this music proves that there is a God

  • @sarsgarrs to some

  • What's the name of that Choir?

  • questa la cantavo nel coro! heehhehehehe!

  • its hard to believe such beautiful music was inspired by god. there must be something more to it.

  • @Dedboy43 There is. It was written by a human.

  • A lot of religious debate in the comments here... I'll just say they sure don't make Christian music like this any more!

  • wow that was composed in like 1500? is that right??

  • Why argue the existince of a "god". The generic word god comes from the high German word "got". Got was a central figure in old germanic mythology. The proper term for the creator is Elohim, or the singluar Eloa. Just as Theos from the greek is translated in error as god and Iesous from the greek as Jesus(Yahshua) and Kyrios from the greek as lord. Theos and Kyrios were the sons of Zeus. The bible is full of mistrations. There is no J or J sound in Hebrew or Greek and the J in latin.

  • @dheeren62 Maybe, but wherever the word comes from it doesn't change anything at the problem of His existence.

  • Thanks all! :)

  • Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina is perhaps only rivaled by Faure in the blessed sublimity of his music

  • It does'nt mattter if there's an god, or not. This is very beatiful human music.

  • Does anyone know which of the many of Palestrina's masses this was from? I'd love a high quality version. It's stunning.

  • @alienjim its from the Missa Papae Marcelli

  • @alienjim The Agnus Dei is the second part to the "Pope Marcellus Mass", preceded by the "Gloria" part. Hope this helps!!

  • Beautiful! O God, Who are so merciful and so wonderful, save every human being - all my brothers and sisters everywhere and this your most unworthy servant - and never depart from us. Inflame our hearts with Your love that we may live detached from every evil and depart from this life united with You, for life eternal.

  • @Alltruthseeker That prayer is in conflict with God's expressed intentions in the Bible. Depends upon how you define "human bein".

  • @Alltruthseeker I am tickled, that you want the truth. God said he wants to save the wheat and destroy the tares. He said, quite explicitly, the wheat are his children, and the tares are the children of the devil. Also in Num 16 you will notice, near, to the end of the chapter, Aaron prevented those from bein destroyed, whom God would destroy. Somewhere in the Bible God says that the guilt, for that, would remain with Aaron's generations. Do you want the guilt on your generations?

  • @howtoplanaparty you go on the assumption that we all believe the ancient myths of the Bible and anything more than myths...Im not here for arguing. Beautiful music regardless of what its written for. Art transcends religion!!

  • An experiment done by Dorothy Retallack proved that the music created by this gentleman actually made plants grow better. So imagine what it will do for the human brain.

  • discussing online is like special olympics, if you win it's still retarded.

so just listen to the muz.

  • Danke Schöpfer, dass Du uns die Musik als Tröster und Himmelsleiter geschenkt hast.

Nun weis ich meinen Jenseitsjob: Sänger

  • wunderbar! wir machen den grad in musik. sehr schön

  • if there's a paradise - and god as well - then i'm sure i'll be listening at palestrina's music after my death!

  • Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

  • Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world.

  • I have problems believing in a Christian God as well, but i was raised in the church and sang in a church choir alot of my life and LOVE this music, it is beautiful and mezmerizing.

  • beautifulllllllll

  • @allnyter -like you say, who knows if there is a personal god, yet this music imparts a sense of spirituality into our being - be it an innate sense or an acquired skill: we are touched by it's beauty if we have but ears to hear.

  • well said ! :D

  • my sentiments exactly

  • my sentiments exactly

  • @allnyter Who told, to you, what a "Christian God" is?

  • @allnyter veils will cover our eyes until God decides to lift them.. be Faithful meanwhile- it saves!

  • @allnyter Judas had the same problems too!

  • @captainmorgan757 yeh, I don't care.

  • @allnyter I expected nothing less from you...

  • arguing about the existence of god doesn't affect the greatness of this music :P

  • @kevinm4435 My sentiments exactly!

  • @kevinm4435 I agree with you. I'm an atheist but I love this music. It is very uplifting.

  • @kevinm4435 This music was created for the glory of God, it has only this reason. It is the same as it occurs with the great churches built only for the glory of God, churches that unfortunately nowadays have turned into museums because people has lost their faith. I'm christian and for me the greatness of this music comes for its religious significance. This shows how Christian faith has helped the development of art and music throughout history.

  • Actually, nothing affects the greatness of this music.

  • @kevinm4435 well said

  • Science also disproves its own Theory of Evolution, as does the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Only other alternative is a Creator; a Being greater than ourselves. And this Creator has a Son; His name is Jesus. Search the facts for yourself before blindly believing what scientists throw out as fact.

On topic, great music..Studying this in school, and this piece is definitely relaxing and appreciative.

  • @lstmemories Another creationists that believes the earth is only 6,000 years old. The evolution statement and the Second Law of Thermodynamics statement proves that you are scientifically illiterate. Those are old creationist arguements that event the Discovery Institute no longer uses. Dosome homework, get some updated creationist arguements.

  • Such pure and full of texture. I want to learn how to write this kind of stuff so much....

  • You are revolting indeed.

  • ''In caelis''

  • The breath of life!

  • Polyphony has such beauty, but it is one of the most difficult thing to ever put into practice as a composer. Palestrina had a true gift.

  • the prince of music. his music is like sex. oh man

  • Which mass is this from?

  • This is the Pope Marcellius Mass

  • i love this !!!!! so great !!!

  • Amazing!

  • You hate religion because you have only heard the western dogma.

  • Everyone "hates" religion who has not experienced its Truth.

    It's an easy target.

  • So true, bra.

  • u from hawaii?

  • Dont be a hater, leave us to listen to the music.

  • I think you misunderstood what I wrote.

  • The "truth" about religion is that it was created to give an explanation to what we didn't understand. Modern science has disproved many religions with the discovery of cells and microorganisms, along with disproving the theory of Abiogenesis

  • I would agree completely.

But I still like to listen to this music.

  • The truth is that there was a historical character named Jesus and that His followers made a decision to lay down their lives for what they believed He was all about. Modern science has had nothing to say about Jesus and the time He lived.

  • then u know nothing about religion.

  • @Scorpion37 I guess you mean that religion exists to explain things we STILL don't understand. Like the meaning of life, emotions and the 'soul', the beginning of all things, the nature of the very concept of reality... Just ask yourself why the universe is as it is and maybe you'll begin to understand why some people believe in God or any such greater all-encompassing entity. It is very probable that there are a bunch of things we wil never ever understand and that is why God comes into play.

  • I fucking hate religion.

    But this, this is beautiful.

How can one not appreciate the beauty in this?

  • Skaz, I no that it is fashionable in semi-literate circles to say that one hates religion, one feels cleverer among such people.

But please don't exhibit here you irrational hatred, speak of the music. Thanks.

Pauvre petit esclave obéissant du prêt-à-penser, minable pense-petit.

  • this music is really beyond religion. You can ignore trying the hear the actual words and just enjoy the harmony of the notes. Its beautiful. I wish I was sitting at the edge of a still lake set in a valley with a lonely mountain in the background. Me and me tobacco pipe.

  • @skraz It has been two years since you comment, but I just wanted to say that I am waiting for atheists to make good art. I wonder if that day will ever come.

  • for some reason, i only like the first minute of this. But i really REALLY like it. And i am NO fan of church or even choral music. But i listen to this and some of those chord changes i have never heard anything like that anywhere else in music. Especially that bit at 0:47. It just sounds so cool!

  • I am in no way a very religious person, but the pure beauty of this piece is immeasurable. Palestrina was truly a genius!

  • such astonishingly beautiful music, the sounds of angels

  • Nasty comment by durk.

  • This is truelly a perfect mass.

  • beatus qui tenebit et adlidet parvulos tuos ad petram

    (Psalm 137:9)

  • Happy is the one who takes your babies and smashes them against the rocks.

    Ohh dear.

  • one question

why? - why would you write that?

  • ... the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever. (Psalm 136:9, I think) - My question: why did people give your Latin quote a thumbs down?

  • Le ciel sans nuages !

  • celestiale

  • E' una musica riconciliante

  • ... angels !

  • what beautiful music!
