  • wooo got chills at 7:53

  • I want more of this tooo... Is this the end? I can't believe... There must be some more.. just to good to finish,

  • I'd really love to see this play in live.

    It is so beautiful.

  • I just kind of stumbled right into this video, but its mesmerizing.

  • too formalized

  • 2:08 > Buffalo Bill dance -_-

  • i love how his body keeps in perfect rhythm with the erratic music

  • once you lay aside your own cultural teachings of theater & art, this is no different, even in another spoken language; the language of the body is understood throughout.

This could have had 10 more parts & I would have watched them all eagerly as I had goosebumps from the imagery.

    Thank you for sharing this!

  • sooo was the snake killed or did she eat princess hinata? i got confused in the end

  • so did she ended up eating princess hinata?? she attacked but idk n then he sed tht the god umm orosko wus it killed her so idk

  • God so beautiful. Tamasaburo against that moonlite stage makes me think I've seen the old gods of Japan come to life and I'd better hide or I'll be spirited away. So heartbreakingly lovely. I wish I could live in a world like he makes me see and feel.

  • 3:11 I just wanna give Orochi a hug, but she'd bite off my head anyway.

All joking aside, this is magnificent. I feel like a giant sigh watching this. It's been said over and over again but this is so amazingly beautiful.

  • Are all/most Kabuki actors male?

  • Props to this guy, cuz apparently he's 60, but more impressively he can keep up with such an irregular unobvious rhythm with such grace.

And his face is so stoic yet melancholic the whole time. It makes you pity the character.

  • This was simply beautiful.

  • The character's supposed to be so hideous but the actor himself is so beautiful in this.

  • My God!!!

  • 2:50 - 3:25 - love that part, so expressive!

  • passion

  • seriously the music is kinda freaking me

  • I knew that Orochi and Ameritsu were real Japanese gods, Ameritsu is the god of all gods (Like god for us) And Orochi god of darkness (8 headed serpent

  • I knew that Orochi and Ameritsu were real Japanese gods, Ameritsu is the god of all gods (Like Jesus Crist and god for us) And Orochi god of darkness (8 headed serpent

  • OMY GAH thank nippon this is so .... i cant explain good

  • X-D Such great acting! All over the place with a perfect preciseness. When he drops the fan, I can almost hear the character of Orochi go "Wait a minute... *hic!* lemme try dat 'gain *hic!* ..."

  • is tamasaburo orochi? or maybe susanoo answer pleazzz i luv tamasaburo he's so expressive and graceful even if is a men

  • never knew something so eerie could also be beautiful

  • amazing... incredibly talented.

  • wow this was the best one i have ever seen

  • sugoi

  • I remember his first appearance so many years ago with the Imperial Kabuki Theater at the Metropolitan Opera. A breathtaking evening of beauty.

  • i totally agree with you and the insturnments are like the ones used in the music for naruto shippuden

  • BREATHTAKING....

Seriously, this is the MOST BEAUTIFUL thing I have ever seen in my life.

He looks a little like Orochimaru from Naruto...

  • The reason the character is similar to Naruto's Orochimaru is because Orochimaru's image is borrowed from Orochi, I suppose....

  • OMG,,,, O love that.

It's one of the best things I have ever seen in my life.

He looks like Orochimaru from Naruto...

  • This is incredible and so far my favorite performance out of the few i've seen. Anyone know other great Kabuki tales?

  • does the real hair lenght of ancient japanese woman that long?????!!!!????.........does he only wear a wig?.......sorry to ask ,i just don't understand..^^

  • Yes, in ancient Japan, women would have hair that would grow to extremely long lengths. You can see some representations in old Japanese paintings. I'm not sure which period, but I have seen some silk screen paintings of women with long, beautiful hair like that. :)

  • regardress of the period, novel class ladies and maidens are to have height length hair. even lower working class women are to have waist length to 19th century. lucky to live in 20 century!

they were quite short, remind you...estimated around 120-140cm.

  • Unreal... Bravo!!!!

  • ohh it made me cry!! so much beauty...

  • Go Mr. T (Tamasaburo)

    He's really great!

  • Thank you. This is really beautiful. I love Japanese theater. This is one of the best scenes I've seen in my life.

  • Bando Tamasaburo is spellbinding and exquisite!Domo arigato!

  • very good. very good.

  • VERY NICE!

  • wowW...! very NICE!

  • really thanks, this is very very good, i hope there can be more, is intreting, in my country we have a japanese peruvian theater, but never seen this...sad, maybe someday, but is really good, Domo Arigato.

  • Hi their, thanks a lot for keeping your eyes on japanese culture. i'm japanese and i regret that not so many japanese young age peole interested in its own culture. i guess foreign people are more curious to know about dancig like this... sigh. Well, orochi story is a typical oral folklore in japan and it can be picked up all over japan especially in deep mountain side. my country holds a story almost same as well. thus the plot of dancing has been written baced on these old folklores. i love it

  • now this was beautiful, love the music, dance and now I got to know more about the story of orochi, and I LOVE the kimonos

  • Beauty is captured in his every movement, this is stunning!

  • thank you for uploading!!!! i had to do an essay/homework for universal history of music , i choose the Japanese culture and your vid has really helped me:)

  • I have never seen Japanese dances before and Im truly impressed- so graceful and expressive!

    Thanks for sharing this.

  • So, this is where Orochimaru gets his name from 'the great serpent'.

I love that kimono! And just the whole ensamble all together!

  • yeah, orochimaru is from orochi but I guess kishimoto made Orochimaru a male because in the story, orochi is a female

  • is it true that all female kabuki characters are men ?

  • Traditionally yes, women were banned from acting in the kabuki plays since they began atracting the wrong kind of audiences, young men took on their rolls but were also banned by the shogunate for the same reasons as women and so only old men were allowed to do it. Some local kabuki troupes today use female actors but apparently not many.

This particular actor is in his late fifties.

  • so wait, the women who was dancing in the video WAS A GUY?!

  • yup!

  • It was filmed in his mid-forties I think.

  • @dethroniel what?here this one is a man whoe is a lady here?

  • yes. Women were banned hundreds of years ago, as were young men for the same reason.

  • Young men have since been allowed. I went to the theater today and a 4 year old is making his debut this month. It was cute but he was also very good

  • This was great. I've never seen any actual Kabuki before, and I wasn't expecting to sit through all three parts of this, but it is SO interesting and new to me. Thanks for uploading these videos. They're fantastic!

  • i really hate the background talking

  • shes scary

  • IS THIS THE END? Please reply to this comment directly so that I would be notified of the answer; I already skimmed through the other posted videos but found no part four for this play!

  • me neither T^T ...what happens to the princess ?

  • the poisened sake make's her fall asleep for the gods to take her life,

    beautiful isn't it

  • @redalert0kirov Amazing and dramatic stunning end. Orochi was killed by Susanoo!

  • IS THIS THE END? Please someone reply to this post so that I would be notified with the answer. I skimmed through the posted videos but didn't find a fourth part for this play!

  • This is so beautiful!

    The movements are so precise.

  • So eerie~

And gorgeous. That must have been hard to learn~

  • Thank you Tiffenakou - gorgeous and breathtaking - the narration is an added treat as well, and the music + the subtle and not so subtle movements plus the music all add up to the rich performance

  • This is hypnotic! The movements are so perfect, effortless and yet complex. I hope to see more videos like this!

  • i dont even know how i got here but i want more of these videos that will be great

  • wow. i only saw two of his performances. already, he's become a favorite of mine!

  • Looking in a jar, she was repelled by her own hideousness.

    Very well acted.

  • I actually like this better than Sagi Musume. Something about his depiction of the orochi... the attitude is very challenging and flashy. Amazing.

  • Is this beautiful dance what they call Kabuki? And is Tamasaburo the one dancing? His movements are so smooth! And the narrator, is he translating the lyrics? Sorry fot asking so many questions...I m completely ignorant..

  • yes Tamasaburo is the dancer. The narrator is translating the lyrics and explaining some details of the dance.

  • You´re not ignorant, quite the opposite, because "ignorance" means not wanting to know something. You on the other hand seem to want to know something about Kabuki, which is a great thing.

  • I love the strange quality of his movements here...it's so eerie but gorgeous at the same time.

  • Thanks to you,

    I'm a fan!

    I'm a fan!

    I'm a fan!

  • More please

  • I just can't get enough of this actor. Could someone please upload more of Master Tamasaburo's stuff? Thanks.

    Gabrial.

  • demoniac beauty.

    i was shocked.

    he's real genius.
