The fairness doctrine is obsolete. It was established back when there was only one or two radio stations within reception range of most people. Today we have hundreds of competing sources of information available through radio, television, internet, cable tv, satellite tv and other means.
Only crooked polititians who fear the free exchange of information would have any use for the fairness doctrine.
The Fairness Doctrine is based on the First Amendment and the FACT that the airwaves are owned by the PEOPLE. It provides equal time for editorial comments of opposing views. It in NO WAY limits free speech but the opposite, it encourages it.

Considering the massive efforts by the religious/corporate right to censor TV, radio and other forms of public media of anything sexual or "obscene", implementing the Fairness Doctrine would be a welcome revenge, at least. Last time I checked, Radio stations were owned by citizens. Sure the content needs (I guess) to be monitored to a degree, but to dictate the content is..hello..North Korea anyone? The basic concern is that large companies will be able to buy the ability to essentially shut down their opponents websites by cutting bandwidth from them.
