  • Why yes my dear watson you have missed something.

  • "I'm afraid little girls will want to become sluts after watching this movie." The fuck? Censoring shit is really rather ridiculous. While it's true that children weren't meant to see some things, I don't see how they would get past not seeing it. Which is why it should be explained at a young age WHY it isn't good to follow or aspire to be characters in a movie. I, for one, watched Spun when I was horribly young. Doesn't mean I then aspired to be a meth cook.

  • I never got to see this episode cause some noisy annoying people were at my house and someone deleted my recording I still haven't seen if

  • Noone of you morons is asking why Sherlock is naked...

  • @0306babylove Because we don't have to ask. You have to ask.

  • BBC IPLAYER REMOVED IT WHILE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF WATCHING IT :'((((((

  • 2 people didn't leave a nice plate of ham in their kitchen.

  • Just finished watching it :) I LOVE IT.

Writing my review for my blog now

  • What is the track used on this advert? I got it stuck in my head and can't find it. Any help peeps?

  • :09--I love the way Benedict says "No."

    "Are you wearing any pants?"

    "MmnOoo."

  • "you wearing any pants?"

    "no..."

  • he said he wasnt wearing any pants but if you look VERY closely you can see he is

  • @bamboozle199 Yes, well, the actor probably didn't want any really awkward wardrobe malfunctions going on, not when there's a camera pointed directly at him.

  • @bamboozle199 so you were looking VERY closely... :)

  • can anyone tell me where i can stream this from to Australia?

  • @risingrisingrising go to sidereel.com or tvduck.com

  • This episode...Good lord, my brain kind of hurts. XP And my heart too, for that matter, just a bit.

  • @SolrSurfr3 me too :/

  • i'm gonna die of excitement, no lie..... can't wait for it to reach the US!!!!

  • Mmmm... I can smell a shipping war. *gets out popcorn*

  • What annoys me is that in Canada we haven't gotten to see the episode yet so I'm getting very impatient. Does anyone know where Canadians can watch session 2?

  • @msblueisback Tv-Links.eu :)

  • @msblueisback tvduck.com is where i watched it. im from canada

  • @msblueisback and this isnt spam. legitimately it's a great site

  • @msblueisback I hear ya, I'm in the US and can't get it either... really ticked!

  • @msblueisback My ingenious solution: move to UK. Of course the official reason was to study but obviously it was to finally have access to bbc iplayer.

  • The character Sherlock would often act, manipulate-betray for what he saw as the greater good. He would fake a response to gain a response. Watch to see if this is what is occurring, if yes Brilliance, if no, poor watery lazy adaptation. And "the woman" may have nothing to do with romance, more of admiration, that her qualities , regardless of sex, set her apart and made her charismatic. Sherlock is a narcissist, and though admiring of, would ultimately spurn, not wanting of the competition.

  • I'f I'm not mistaken Sherlock is supposed to take drugs - cocaine and morphine - according to the canon, something not illegal back then.By today's standards,I don't think you colud call a role model someone who snorts cocaine to make a good deduction...

  • Another thing, Irene Alder is suppose to be American.

Americans don't even take their clothes off at the beach, and I'm sure Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be outraged to see The Woman naked and looking sluty, when she earned the name "The Woman" BECAUSE she was respectful, kind, smart/witty, and had her set of morals at the same time.

To add, this isn't very respectful at least to Sir Arthur, who (let me remind) CREATED Sherlock's character and all the other characters in the first place.

  • @sparehawk23 she doesn't just look sluty, she is a BDSM slut by profession and they make her an idol. I'm afraid little girls will want to become a prostitute after watching this movie. Oh my god

  • @WildBerry273 Doubt it- this is not for little girls. this is a BBC adult drama series full of death, crime and grime. Sherlock Holmes was never really intended for kids, though the Hollywood movies lean in that direction. Sherlock holmes himself has never been traditional role model material himself- in the books and very much in this series, he is presented as VERY antisocial and cutting: that's why we love him.

  • @MrCybershade it's not about kids. Originaly she was presented as a woman admired by people including SH. BBC put a female in the center of the drama, who enjoys prostitution and desperately tries to get laid with SH. I don't mind if there is sex and violence, I just don't understand why she is supposed to be an idol. And if they think it's fine and expect us to adore her, something is very wrong with the world.

  • @WildBerry273 I dislike the whole dominatrix thing too, but if you're able to shun it away from your mind, her character is okay in this version. After watching the whole episode you realize she wasn't desperately trying to get into Sherlock's bed; she was acting to get Sherlock interested in her, so she could fool him into solving the code for her (and ultimately for Moriarty, for whom she was working.) Her getting attracted to him for real was "an occupational accident."

  • @WildBerry273 dominatrices are not prostitutes.

  • @sparehawk23 Respectful and kind? Wasn't she mistress to a king?

  • @sparehawk23 She is meant to be American, quite true and yes, I'm sure Sir Arthur would probably die of shock...but, though I hugely admire and respect Holmes's creator (The Lost World and his other Proff. Challenger books are worth a look as well) times have moved on. He presented Irene Adler as a temptress and the centre of scandel...perhaps it is fitting that a 21st century version might have to try a little harder than the original to reach these very character descriptions.

  • @sparehawk23 Actually, if you watched the episode in full, you'd realize that her nakedness was a way of disguising herself since Sherlock needed additional details like her clothes (or choice of clothes) to deduce things about her. Plus, it threw off Sherlock for a moment. Furthermore, I thought that her nakedness was a way of presenting a character foil to Sherlock, who also tramps around naked too. Her ingenuity is unconventional but equally smart and witty as Sherlock's. Watch it first!

  • @ValentineLissar this changes my whole view of Irene (in the show of course) thanks for explaining that, because since I haven't seen it yet, I thought they made her out to be really trashy and just after Sherlock (which is soooo incredibly far from the book!!)

  • @ValentineLissar umm thanls for ruining it ^_^

  • @sparehawk23 In fact if you watch the episode, she is slutty because of her profession but after the initial introductions, she proves herself just as clever, if not more charming, than Sherlock. She does outwit him in several instances. Besides do you think the canon Alder was any less scandalous? Originally she was an opera singer and back in the Victorian Age, any respectable woman would not be an actresses. Actresses were considered on the same level as prostitutes.

  • @sparehawk23 stupid.

  • Question: Why is Irene Adler naked?

Answer: BBC and their librels who screw up characters

    smh

  • Hit random numbers on the key board while watching (favorite of mine is 2 and 6) and let the magic happen!

  • I keep playing the part over and over again where Mycrot steps on Sherlocks bed sheets and they fall off!!!! AHHHH <3 :) XD :D

  • "I could cut myshelf slapping that face."

However, the one hitting Sherlock was John.

  • Comment removed

  • 0:11 -> Replayed that bit a hundred or so times ~_^

  • Also, to anyone who watched it (don't read this if you haven't, it'd be a spoiler), do you think John and Sherlock of a bit of a "thing"? Irene said that John and Sherlock were a couple, and John said it wasn't true but she insisted. John then said he wasn't gay -- but then Irene said that she WAS gay, and look at them both (maybe meaning that despite neither of them should love Sherlock, they both do?) Later it's proven that she does love him. Does that hint that John does too? Opinions? :D

  • @NekoAlias I agree that there was something there. It was far too obvious.More over, they showed Sherlock becoming more human, more in touch with his feelings - any feelings he may have. The expression of his face when he realizes Mrs Hundson is in danger says a lot...

  • @kateris1976 Exactly; it's was so obvious to me, even though I tried to be ignorant of it. The way he reacted to things, like her apparent death, his "Happy New Year" reply, his smile; everything just pointed to it. Too obvious, like you said. I read something recently that said they're exploring whether or not, "underneath that cold exterior, is there a sexual and emotionally capable being?". I can get a love story anywhere; I don't want to experience Sherlock in that way. IMO

  • @NekoAlias Neither do I because I'd like the series to follow the canon and not make up Hollywood style love stories "the protagonist gets the girl". I have to admit although that I wanted Sherlock to express some kind of emotion - anything..

  • @kateris1976 Yes, I agree that I wanted Sherlock to feel something, too. A slow process to realizing friendship to John or something. Something slow, easy, and not overbearing. I could even appreciate the obvious anger he felt against the guy who hurt Mrs. Hudson (possessiveness there, if nothing else.) lol. But really, If I wanted to see a sociopath fall in love, I'd go watch Dexter again. xP But it was a good episode nonetheless :)

  • @NekoAlias Awesome!Not to mention the acting...

  • This man's acting is beyond description. In 90 minutes he made me go through a rollercoaster of feelings.I could watch this again and again without getting bored.I really am pissed off that we don't get to see this on tv here in Greece....

  • If your american you can watch the show on Sidereel! :)

  • OMG - Mrs Hudson was epic in this episode

  • This episode was amazing and didn't disappoint! To my surprise I actually liked Irene:)

  • Sooo yesterday at ten past eight I thought: "Damn god for not letting me live in Great Britain so I can´t enjoy this series right now."

Guess I have to wait until this comes to Germany...

    ... Will I survive this?

  • @Entzuendungshemmung You can watch in online. :) And later show your support by watching the TV lol

  • @Entzuendungshemmung Boah ich weiß D:

Ich hab auch total gelitten qwq

  • I expected to hate Irene, but damn, she was amazing! So was the entire episode, gave me an orgasm.

  • I really, REALLY didn't want to see Irene. But, unfortunately, the scene played out. I do have to admit that I enjoyed her character (and a great plot), but not the way Sherlock reacted to her. Not the "unlove" bit that Moffat spoke of. There was certainly something there. Too much there, in my opinion. Overdone. I just hope to sweep it under the rug and move on.

  • @NekoAlias you are aware they had a bit of a thing in the book? nothing beyond intellectual flirting and it didn't go anywhere because Sherlock just did not give a fuck, but it was still there. What were you seeing, anyway? Even when she was on his lap naked he didn't really seem interested in her that way -- just curious because he had yet to figure her out.

  • @CheeseLoversUnited There was no "thing" in the book. Not even intellectual flirting. I've read them all. Irene was in no way special in the book, in my opinion. She saw through what I felt was a rather obvious display, but because of that had gotten the best of Holmes. He kept her picture in rememberance. It seemed much different in the show to me. I really tried not to see it, and if I had more room I'd explain. But it was just too much in my opinion. That's all. :)

  • @CheeseLoversUnited But because I'd still like to hear your opinion further, what did you think about it? Was there anything between Sherlock and Irene in the show? She obviously loved him; she was Sherlocked (aren't we all ;P). But what did he truly think of her? (He obviously cared, he went through the trouble of tracking her down and saving her). Just wanna hear some more opinions. :)

  • @NekoAlias I totally agree...

  • Will ich sehen, will ich sehen, will ich jetzt SOFORT sehen!!!!

  • I wanna see it soooo baddd!!! But not until May for us loser Americans :(

  • @AREM16137 Yes but I'm hoping some very nice wonderful awesome god-sent british fans make a channel and post the episodes online. *hint..hint...hint*

  • @AREM16137 It's been moved up to January, the airdate in America :) January 15th, PBS. There's also livestreams you can find.

  • @WinxGirl1766137 They are just showing season one again. NOT the new season according to the website.

  • @AREM16137 go to google and type in sherlock sidereel. they have all the episode there! :)

  • @NeoQueenSerenity1818 Thank you very much, my fellow Sherlockian ;)

  • Brilliant series premiere. How amazing was Adler? I hope we see her again!

  • 4 minutes... I-I can't!

  • "Dirty girls, keep a nice plate of ham in your kitchen, to entice Benedict"

Evidently, it worked for Irene Adler... wait, where was she hiding it? o_0

  • OH. MY. GOD. 35 MINUTES. I CAN'T .. *faints*

  • is it better than the first season or a bit too much dramatized ? for the 2nd season, of course.

  • Anyone know whether this will air in Canada anytime soon? I've literally been waiting for this for god knows how long :P

  • O my god.. HE PUNCHED HIM...JOHN PUNCHED HIM....well there it goes...iam so watching this

  • Are we sure this is Irene? Did they say in a press release or anything. Because Irene was American.

  • @TheWendyNerd Yes, it's definitely Irene. Lara Pulver.

  • What is the song used in this promo?

  • @TheEnglishRedRose I totally agree with you ;)

  • *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!*

    ....ahem.

Please do excuse my inner fan-girl; she can't always control herself when Benedict Cumberpatch comes on screen, especially when his towel drops *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!*

    I rest my case.

  • @TheEnglishRedRose I don't blame you. Nice to have a small sneak peak at that butt

  • @TheEnglishRedRose Just for the record, it isn't a towel, it's a bedsheet. And it doesn't just drop... Mycroft steps on it! Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat catering to the fans, no doubt. ;-)

  • Can i watch it on internet somewhere next week?

  • irene doesn't sound american

  • omgomgomg at last!!! We will see Sherlock play the violin for real...!! 0:23 <3 !!

  • NOOO!!! JOHN/SHERLOCK 4EVER! D:

  • "This is a matter of national importance."

    "Are you wearing any pants?"

    "No."

Good Lord, even the trailers are genius. Damn you, Moffat.

  • OHMYGOD I LOVE IRENE.

I think the flirting will be too much for me.

  • BE STILL MY BEATING HEART

  • So Moffat's writing this one... God if their 'flirting' is anything like how he writes Eleven/River then.. *fan girl squels*

  • 0:34 it's a little like Sherlock's just going to John: no fucking way.

  • I like the actress who's going to play Addler. If u had read the stories then you would know she's the only women he actually liked because of her mind. Its crazy to think about how all of this is going to work out an omg I'm in luv with Sherlock's tush an so is John apparently.

  • Anyone know when Sherlock comes to American tele? Oh god, do I have to travel to England to watch this :,( I mean I'd love too but for just the episode. I think it's worth the trip alone.

  • @DjHamHam411 It comes to PBS in May 2012. I know how you feel, it's hard to wait for such an amazing tv show.

  • sheetlock!.

  • Literally the best Christmast present ever and the perfect way to start a new year!

  • *drool* lol I must have replayed this like ten times just to see Sherlock's sheet fall :)

  • DIED OF A FATAL FANGASM!! keep pressing 2, and be eternally happy ;P

  • @SimStarProductions Oh... You should NOT have told me that. :-P***

  • Note, John did not look away when Sherlock lost his blanket. Hahaha! XD

In fact, he seems to shift to get a better look. ;)

  • What I want to know is when is it going to be shown here in the US? The trailer does nothing for me if I wont be able to see it.

  • @auntiedena72 Not until MAY, sadly. :-(

  • @maryliz98 Thats what I read, then someone said that the decided to release it here january15, but havent found anything like that. It would be awesome if it were true. I'll hate to wait until May.

  • @auntiedena72 You can bet I'll be looking for a way to watch it online next week!

  • @maryliz98 WHOA. Are you serious??? We have to wait that long??????

  • @TheTotallyCaptivated Last I heard, yeah.

  • @maryliz98 …Fuck.

  • I really wish they'd do more than three episodes =( Still super excited though! I love how everything comes back after new years.

  • @saphira1001 I was (wishing) some US (cable) TV executive would fall in love with the show and pay an exorbitant fee too all the cast and writer's so they would drop everything else an do a full season. So far the (stupid) cable exec is a no show. Darn... But my fingers are still X'd though.

  • eh. I think dominatrix is rather fitting for Irene -- she was in fact an actress/opera singer in the books. a profession which was frowned upon in the same way back in the day. there's no reason not to suspect that this'll be played out just like in the books -- intellectual flirting at best. when I first saw the clip, I assumed sherlock was trying to get some information out of her. I mean I know she's a woman, but the hate is still staggering.

  • @CheeseLoversUnited This is not to meant to be anything, but a sincere inquiry: I have watched this clip several times, but after reading your thoughts I watched it another 3 times. I can't for the life of me see the (staggering hate) you wrote about. What am I missing here?

What I do see are signs of their competition, of their one upmanship, an a rather hot game of cat 'n' mouse, I just don't see, "hate." Enlighten me please...

  • @lovemesomcumberbunny I was referring to the hate fans seemed to have for her even before the episode aired -- I was in a particularily bad mood at the time about it, but I never really appreciate hate towards female characters when it's obviously coming from a rather petty not to mention misogynistic place. :P called me humourless, I suppose

  • ...Is anyone else amused by John's little step towards Sherlock at 0:11 as the towel fell? He was too far to save it for Sherlock, but he almost tried to help anyway.

  • @MissVelvie Yes, I saw it too :D Sherlock is getting more and more helpless by the episode. It started with Sherlock demanding John spend an hour getting to Baker Street to send a text, by now we've got John trying to fix Sherlock's somewhat self-inflicted wardrobe malfunctions (yeah, so Mycroft trolled him. But wouldn't have been able to, had Sherlock not humiliated him by showing up at Buckingham Palace dressed in nothing but a sheet because he was too passive aggressive to GET DRESSED!) :p

  • That awkward moment when John walks in on Sherlock getting a lap dance.

  • Was I the only one who got the impression that Mycroft was the one who had... "mishaps" with Irene?

  • @Cresendoll It would certainly make more sense. Nobody ever said MYCROFT was asexual. He has a hot but completely useless PA, for a start, she must be keeping her job somehow ;)

  • @Jeowyn What gave you the idea the PA was (completely) useless? Also, were you going for "funny" or were you being blatantly "sexist" by design?

Here's a thought: Maybe Mycroft's really is the (useless) minor government employee (he claims to be,) while his "Hot" PA is the one actually running the country via her Blackberry. Maybe she's Mycroft's Adele...

  • @lovemesomcumberbunny What gave me the idea that Anthea was useless? How about that instead of actually doing her job or even LISTENING to her employer, she's forever, FOREVER on her Blackberry? To the extent that she's too spaced out to even listen to Mycroft when he's speaking to her?

  • @lovemesomcumberbunny And do tell me, while the view is nice up there on your high horse, what gives you the impression that my remark had anything to do with Anthea's GENDER? For God's sake. I would have made the same remark if their genders had been reversed or they had both been the same gender. Show me the bit where I said or even implied "because that's all women are good for." As for where I'm getting that Mycroft is brilliant? The source material. Where Anthea doesn't even exist.

  • @lovemesomcumberbunny I'll back up on that. I made the connection of Mycroft being into beautiful dark-haired women because his PA apparently spacey and doesn't pay attention to her surroundings or her boss- but is, in fact, a beautiful dark-haired woman. If Irene and Anthea were good-looking dark-haired men and Mycroft female, I would definitely have made the same remark, or if they were all three the same gender. Do THINK these things through before you go accusing people of sexism.

  • Can't wait for Mycroft

  • "ive missed something, haven't i?" yes john, yes you have

  • @ScienceOfDeduction1

    Obviously :D

  • Oh, and Moffat and Gatiss have said the episode is about "Sherlock and love." They've said before there's a difference between "and love" and "IN love", but also, even if that was about Irene- love? Lust I could see, but not love. More than likely that reference spreads much further than The Woman and the episode is likely to address Sherlock's love for others in his life who mean more to him- John, Mycroft, Mrs Hudson, etc. Chillax, folks.

  • I really don't think anyone need worry too much about Sherlock/Irene. Word of Moffat says she's a gay dominatrix, and the only screwing she and Sherlock are interested in is screwing each other over. If that's true, and I can't see why the creators would downright lie, she's using her sexuality as an attempt at intimidating him- but he's fascinated with her mostly on an intellectual level.

  • @Jeowyn Oh, thank God. Your comments set my mind at ease. I can't even wrap my head around a Sherlock/Irene pairing; I'd lose my head. Now I'm actually exctied. :)

  • What did Irene put in the mouth?? Xx

  • @ambertwilight99 A priests collar, I believe...

  • Spent ten minutes searching for this trailer, even the main BBC website failed me. Not that I've found it I'm crazed.

  • She's totally naked and Sherlock's just staring as if it is okay and he's not really borthed? Okay, and John you are so dense.

  • "You wearing any pants?"

    "Nnno."

    "Okay."

XD It never stops with these two!!

And you've got to wonder what that punch was for.

  • @SolrSurfr3 The punch was because Sherlock punched him first. Sherlock told John to punch him in the face, when John hesitated he got the ball rolling by hitting him first and that was what he got in return :) Oh and "I've missed something, haven't I?" John Watson, you are a class act. LOL. And of course Sherlock's not really bothered. Asexuality is kind of like that. :)

  • Pretty funny that Irene is completely naked on Sherlock's lap, while his shirt is uncharacteristacally buttoned right up.

  • 0:17 the only time when boobs are a bad thing

  • Comment removed

  • Why does Irene look like she's from the 1920's?

  • So many new clips in the last few days - it's Christmas!

Oh, wait, it IS Christmas. All the better, then.

  • Holy crap, I ship Irene/me.

  • Wait, isn't Irene supposed to be American?

  • @minopoke

Good catch! What's up with that?
