  • Hey dear friends of the grunge rock...

if you like the dirty old seattle sound so you can hear some Songs of "drunken hippies" we are a german grunge band from berlin.

So if you want you can look at "Drunken Hippies - sad things"

    Peace.Love.Grunge

  • excellent

  • I loved them since 88. They eat dylan, stones, stooges, nirvana or whatever for breakfast.

  • what a great clip.

  • Comment removed

  • 1 of my favorite song by sonic youth

  • Crimen Sollicitationis

  • man shes like 55 in this video and still rocking it i love that

  • thurston is a GIANT, its actually kinda creepy to see him with this song... great song though

  • On a public music library in Sweden about decade ago i read a paper and listened to Sonic Youth. I was caught by Their soundworld at once. CD's I have but never seen Sonic Youth Live. Hope's The Band comes to Helsinki(Finland)if they have some time over.

  • great band

  • Lee is a fucking GOD

  • Ok

    ....

  • Ok

  • Yes...

  • ..they are still seem so young!!!

    ..¿Bad english... gangsters??!!

  • der beste schlagzeuger den man sich für die musikrichtung überhaupt wünschen kann!

  • bill sucks, but what a great performance

  • Sunday comes alone again

  • I hope I don't die before I see them LIVE!

  • @Remembermylai I promised myself I would see them live and i did in 2004. you will.. dont worry.... they'll come around; )

  • There not holding much back thats what that kinda thing looks and sounds like to me.....

  • @derekdamnit haha actually there not allowed to do there feedback solos and crzy sounds because they worry about the crowds ears correctme if im wrong its just what i heard

  • besides nofx and iron maiden, sonic youth is the best band's name ever

  • they're not playing, they're havin' sex... 'cause it sounds like orgasm

  • lol pretty sure sonic youth liked nirvana and nirvana liked sonic youth. what's the problem?

  • @brw0044 considering that Nirvana became big because Sonic Youth invited them to support them on tour.. yeah, I'd imagine so

  • @romeosdistress exactly.

  • Audio is quite a bit out of sync. Shame

  • Kurt Cobain and the Nirvanas.

Thurston Moore and the Sonic Youth.

    Robert Smith and The Cures.

Billy Corgan and the Pumpkin Smashers.

    Till Lindemann and the Rammsteins.

Has anyone ever thought of these sorts of titles?

  • @LionsTigersAndTrouts thats really gay dude

  • @CheckOutMyToys You're really gay, dude.

  • really? people are here to fight about nirvana and sonic youth? go kill yourself..

  • haunting guitar Lee.

  • i want to be an electric bass

    :-D

  • The Sonics are so great. Nirvana was great too and were only around for 1/4 of sonics time, but the thing that I think makes sonic youth alittle better was that they had two great singers. Its cool to have a guy and girl singer, and plus they make cool music. A lot more technical stuff is going on too. But Nirvana is my favorite band and thats just how it is. And for the record Bleach is my favorite CD ever released.

  • @Ksimp9 pretty sure the sonics are another band ;D

  • @LedZepBLSSab haha yeah I did know that, I just like to call sonic youth the sonics.

  • @LedZepBLSSab haha yeah I did know that, I just like to call sonic youth the sonics. Hey led zeppelin rules

  • @Ksimp9 Sonic Youth is also a lot more technically proficient than Nirvana ever was. I wouldn't be surprised if Thurston Moore/Lee Ranaldo are some of the most accomplished guitarists in popular rock music today.

  • Ok I see some Nirvana comments, Honestly nirvana did make it big and for what? to change music forever, and as for grunge, grunge is simply just a marketing point after they hit it big and sold flannel junk for 80 $ a piece to make money off the new music scene. Sonic Youth are different, I love both, but some of you are tlking out your ass when you think you knwo what this music was about.

  • @D0oD0oBrain exactly evol and daydream nation even the pixies were making great music long before nirvana made there great music.

  • wut album is this off of?

  • @DarknessFalls34567 a thousand leaves

  • @DarknessFalls34567 A Thousand Leaves

  • 1000 Leaves..what an album..love them..Kim Gordon's my gal .)

  • they are so coooooooooooooool love all them! Sy in my hearth!

  • Kim Gordon is well fit!

  • alternative rock is awesomeeeeee!

  • sunday does come and sunday does go

  • Such an under-rated band.

Its horrible how so many people know blink 182 and Greenday.

Yet Nirvana and Sonic Youth have half the reputation they truly deserve.

  • @repentandrebel Nirvana, underrated, really? I veer that Nirvana is WAY more popular than the likes of Blink or Green Day.

  • @repentandrebel

Don't dare say something like that. Nirvana was complety comercial. Sonic Youth is far more deep than Nirvana, they shouldn't even share places in a sentence.

  • @SKFukuda No, Nirvana were made commercial by the media. At heart they were a real grunge band. I didn't ask you for your opinion so shut the fuck up you stupid prick and listen to the music. Cheers.

  • @repentandrebel

No, Kurt Cobain screamed mainstream. He himself said he only learned guitar to become famous. Nirvana is awful in every possible way, really. Sonic Youth isn't even grunge, their sound is way over rock itself. Real grunge band?lol

  • @SKFukuda

You are aware that the members of Nirvana hated the success they got after Nevermind and tried to make In Utero as hard-listened as possible? I can say I learned guitar just to score with chicks and it's not necesserily (excuse my spelling) true

  • 2:17 lee's guitar sound just kicks mi into space

  • Onic-Jooth!

  • pinche intro fiero! jajaja

  • la música es buena, pero la voz no me termina de gustar.

The music is great, but I don´t really like the voice at all.

  • what an incredibly recognizable voice and sound!

  • Incredible band. Top class song.

SY is able to write extraordinary songs for many decades.

  • Nice Song .

  • Nice Song!

  • Nice one NMerenda1, I could not agree more. Nothing out there like it, except maybe Radioheads cover of Joy Division, " Ceremony" on Thumbs down web cast. Sonics SUPERB man. Jazz Club, (Nice). Luv John.

  • This was written for the movie suburbia...i think it was this song though it could be a different one by them.

  • seriously cannot pick one thing wrong with this performance. where are bands like this nowadays??? well done SY

  • why thurston looks always so young?

    this is my soundtrack :)

  • @sebasstienn its because of the drugs XD

  • Thurston is the man

  • gotta love kim gordon

  • @carpetmusic Shes hot, met her in Ottawa 8 yrs. ago

  • Dave loves Sonic Youth

  • Who doesn't?

  • love

  • Love when those heavy lines kick in at 1.50, guit's cop a floggin and then flicks back at 2.17....true creativity in song writing!!

  • Trust me... Saw them in 2008... They got pretty young. ;)

  • This band never gets old... and the members neither.

    Lee Ranaldo is the man.

  • Their are great

  • coincedence? it very well could be

  • is the BEST BAND !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • one of the best band of all the times ...

  • @jifix6470 the are certainly one of the most accomplished guitar bands of all time. Definitely a musicians' band. Not a bunch of wankers who learned how to play their guitars with the aid of a video game or some shitty rapper who thinks he can play the guitar for some reason.

  • porq esta banda esta buena ?

why this band is so fucking great?

    is the best band

  • Sounds even better live.

  • best band ever!

  • I Love Sonic Youth

Great song, it relaxes me. \o\

  • wow did that ever sound wicked

  • psychedelic trash :D

  • and now it*s just me and my BITCHES!! :D

  • hahahahhahahahaha-11111 :DDDDD

  • nIrVaNa,sOnIc YoUtH,DiNoSaUR jR,tHe bReEdErS,mElViNs,TaD,fOo

  • I love this band but why oh why does that drummer approach his hi hat which just one-e-and-uh rhythm (basically quarter notes within one single beat).

Its a good way to drive the beat but I noticed he uses that beat alot lol.

  • they are not quarter notes, they are eighth notes which are counted 1&2&3&4&. the snare is played on 2 and 4 and the bass drum is played on 1 and 3. this is the basic pattern for rock which is why he uses it so much. If he were playing 16th notes (1e&a) like u described, it would sound much like the nirvana song "In Bloom" during each verse.

  • SUNDAY THE DAY PUNK BROKE

  • 25 years of at least good records. It did not manage no Stones, no Dead, no smb

  • i just realised how tall thurston more is.

  • its cool to think this band inspired nirvana

  • where the fuck is the music video at? i wanna see Culkin in it

  • great song man!!!

  • 'whatdahellisdasmell' is obviously not a sonic youth fan.

  • What did whatdahellisdasmell say?

  • Did CBS died?

  • SY isn't about flawless, conventional guitar technique. Surprises me you're not ranting about Lee's solo - he isn't exactly playing by the book either.

  • she's grounding it.. you fucking nerd.

  • this is one of my most favourite sonic youth songs ever.

  • I think this is the best song SY made.

  • amazing!!!!!!!!

  • WOW KIM Gordon is the same...

  • spellbinding

  • that guy, what's his name, is tall as shit

  • thurston moore yeah he is huge and a kick ass guitarist

  • Great song, kid!!!

  • perfect... good song

  • do you want more...?This is Sonic Youth!

  • Well the official video clip would be nice...fucking youtube!

  • My fave.

  • I had a friend who said Sonic Youth was shit music. That bromance ended soon afterwards.

Great song that takes me to many places, situations, and acquaintances. I do miss some of them.

  • aw, more people prefer to buy revolt than recognize it as the subatomic level. bang a tin can in your ear then bite your lip til it bleeds. is that what you mean?

  • rawr youthful aggression grrrrr old people suck GRRRRRRAWR they don't know the shit I know grr rebellion grrrr

  • you don't know what you are talking about. You know rebellion, you're a Zapatista?

  • Correction: They're laid back 50 somethings, and the poetry is great

  • great tune

  • CHICAGO FIRST U.S. STOP, YESSS!!

  • I'M SEEING THEM JUNE 30TH!!!!!! only thing is that its a seated venue....

  • where you from? everyone from here automatically knows its seated, you dint hafta point that out

  • im from toronto

  • Seated? Really?

  • but face

  • is the music vid on utube?

  • with you sunday never ends

  • i think they benned it!

    I cant find it anywhere

  • This Sunday in my country !!!!! 29 March 2009 Santiago de Chile !!!!!!!! :D

  • Lee is free.

  • es un temazo locoooooooooo!!!!

  • Was the guy from home alone 1 & 2 only in a music video?? I always thought he was part of the band lol...

  • he was at the beginning a part of SY their drummer

    left after their first release

  • Uh, MrTrippy was talking about Macaulay Culkin, who was in the music video for Sunday. (I also recall Thurston talking about how the band arranged for him to star in the vid on 120 Minutes, but can't remember the details)

Redcereal12 is talking about Richard Edson who left the band in 1982 to pursue an acting career.

Culkin was only a year old when Sonic Youth formed.

  • yeahhh thats right

i was wondering how i had missed richard edson in home alone haha

  • if i was in a band this is the song i'd want to write

  • one of my all time favorite songs of sy

love having this song on late sunday nights

  • sunday never ends

  • i've had this riff stuck in my head for years

  • by my opinion, 1995-2000 for sonic youth was good on studio, but was WAY better live

  • Thurston is the real hero of Sonic Youth. At least in my opinion. Lee is probably a better guitarist. Kim is awesome.Steve is a great drummer too. One of the best bands of all time.

  • how so??

  • You're an idiot!

  • Magical.

  • just

     L.e.e

  • Im the same height as Thurston. My Jaguar looks tiny on me in pictures. Its funny.

  • j'adore ce son..............

  • maybe the rest of the band is just really really short....

  • lol

  • wow i never noticed how tall thurston is

    like a freakin giant!

  • yeah 6'4''

Lee's jazzy is so pretty, i love the block inlay.

  • I thought he was 6,6!

  • yeah, he is a japanese monster-like!

  • "Coffee & TV"

  • I'm not sure if you are replying to a previous thread or not, but just a quick note - A Thousand Leaves came out before Blur's 13, so as usual, sonic youth were likely the innovators of that sound or chord progression. You're right though, they do sound similar... I like both.

  • yeah, i read somewhere blur used sunday as blueprint for coffee and tv

  • i dont like letterman. retire already letter man. but they always have good bands on his show.

  • incredable song, second only to diamond sea. I liked the album version better though

  • altissimo livello this is the great music

  • i like kim's tits and the song is great

  • nice to see a video of this song without mac's scary face.
