because 99% of people do want sex and if they do not want sex it can be a sign that something is really wrong and it's not like everyone feels free to discuss if they are feeling depressed/were sexually abused - if you pick up on a potential symptom of something quite serious you don't really want to ignore it. i guess i'm just saying in the most diplomatic way possible that yes we should try and understand and embrace minorities but you ARE a minority so the majority aren't necessarily dicks

obviously there is a lot of ignorance about it all which must be very frustrating for asexuals, and there's always jerks in any kind of social group, but it quite bugs me when asexuals seem to think sexual people are wrong in being confused / concerned about asexuality. it is really confusing even for people who are trying to be open minded and i don't necessarily think it's an insult if people automatically think 'are they depressed? were there sexually abused?' because

I am asexual and my home city (Toronto) is so discriminating towards asexuality. It seems like every consensual sexual lifestyle is accepted here except for us. (Celibacy is accepted here, but if you naturally don't want sex, the assumption is that there's something wrong with you!)

@controversyking (not ace, just here because i'm trying to understand asexuality) but, um, for most people, having sex would trump seeing colors a hundred times over. that is not to say i think there's anything wrong with not feeling that way, just that, you know, the majority of people would choose to continue deriving pleasure from sex over seeing colors. it's fascinating, though, to see what people are like when they're not consumed by sex drive.

its just not a big thing for me, ill take it or leave it.

asexuality is not in any way an aversion to sex (that's antisexualty, or sexual aversion), its just a lack of sexual desire, asexuals can and do have sex, is what I'm saying, but most people don't get that.

I have never wanted to have sex with anyone, or wanted to be into a 1 to 1 relationship with anyone, I'm quite happy being on my own doing my own thing. When I look at an attractive woman or young woman I think they are very attractive, but thats as far as it goes. I get bored looking at porn, and my mind tends to drift to other none sexual things when I do . I get more emotional satisfiction from space research, and the MMO Eve Online, and other computer games then anything to do with sex.

I have a friend who is asexual and I've never found it to be confusing, strange or unnatural. I don't agree with the one sex therapist who says they're 'missing out'. They're just living different lives and if they're happy with those lives then who are we to tell them that they're wrong? It's their life, let them live it the way they want. They're not hurting anyone, they're just being themselves.

Well I think there should be an Asexual SYmbol too.

I thought of one

a black white and gray circle. depicting that asexuals are whole and complete in themselves, like a circle. at least that's how I feel. and the black to gray to white could represent the individual facets of asexuality: A-bi A-strait A-Gay ore just A. there's a lot of gray area for asexuals in relationships

Actually I believe that we already have two symbols.

One is a heart that's colored black at the bottom then white at the top.

The other is an upside down triangle which fades from white to gray.

The have it on AVEN, in case you don't know that. The triangle one I mean.
