You can tell the guy or girl stuck in the middle doesn't take care of themselves and driving habits (includes maintenance) due to the amount of snow on the windshield.

That is a sign of a clutter-minded, careless, underestimating, ignorant person which in this day in age there is no excuse due to the amount of attention given in the media regarding snow tires, and overall winter preparedness.

I'm another immigrant (Brit) that's driven that same hill when it has looked like this.

I've helped push a born and raised White Canadian's car (with snow tyres) out of a snow drift. After a decade, experience tells me White born Canadians aren't any more adept driving in snow than the rest of us. At least no one's ever had to tow or push my car out of a ditch or snow drift for me.

I was caught in this traffic a few years ago when I used to commute to Finch stn. It looks like the dip between Bayview and Don Mills - and it happens on both sides of the dip everytime after a major snowstorm. Every car that was stuck didn't have snow tires on... I was one of those who drove on the other side of the road past everyone that was stuck... it was the only way...

I live about 45 minutes N/E of Ottawa at the moment. Also, I agree the roads should be better maintained by the government. But we know they aren't, so people should be prepared for the reality of the situation. Saying 'This would be good enough if the roads were maintained right' really isn't justifying a person ignoring the situation of the roads and presenting themselves a hazard and problem to themselves and others. I guess I'm saying deal with the reality rather than cry about the ideal.

I live in a city which I swear has some of the worst maintained roads in Ontario. The holes are easily capable of blowing tires and screwing up cars (and do) and they are everywhere. A 'good' road is extremely rough but has no destroy-your-vehicle holes. The snow removal is no better. There's often 8 inches of snow on my road and people use it as a quick way across sides of the city all the time. 'Blaming' the city doesn't make sense as everyone knows the driving is rough all year round.
