if the rook moves to b8 the queen will get the rook. it's still a checkmate with the N to C7 because the N support to C7 will move to B8 eating the queen
I'm so confused can someone help me here what if after be3 black queen plays its real best move qe5? then after castles black bg4. instead of castle would white play pawn a3?
at 1:10, instead of moving the bishop to threaten the queen, how about if black moves pawn to c6? This stops the horse from moving forward and ruins the whole trap. Can anyone explain what to do in this case?

9...e5 does not ruin white's plan at all, for 10.Qb7 is a very powerful reply. After 10....Qxb7 it is 11.Bc5 mate. Otherwise, black loses a Queen with check.

Why black doesn´t play Bxd1 instead of Qc5 at 2:42? There´s no mate at d8 any more and black might for example play Qe1 next move and threaten mate. As far as I can see there is no mate for white.
I think you mean 8.Nb5? If then ... e5 then Nxc7+ is completely winning for white. However, 7. ... e5 is strong for black, yes, but white does have good compensation for the material deficit. Nb5 and Qg3 are equally the best moves, white will have to play sharply though and make effective use of his lead in development.
It's an age old debate! Generally speaking the bishops are slightly better but occasionally the knights can be superior (mostly in closed positions). For all intents and purposes, though, they should be valued as equal.
White's best response is Nb5 - but even then it's hard to get any advantage for the gambit pawn. You're really hoping for Qb4 - this is why it's best for bullet and blitz. Thanks,
thats awesome i love the black mar-deemer gambit and scalped a 1600 with it in my first uscf tournament, but i never thought to take the pawn with the queen. I am definatly going to have to try that wish i had found this on friday before the okie open where i lost 300 of the rating points i got from beating the 1600 in my first tournament
not related to this trap but I've noticed that in the typical B-D lines a few black playes have started playing Nf8, protecting h7 when white has the typical QatH4, B at d3, etc. setup. Witth the bl N at f8, wh's attack seems completely stopped.
Well, it may work as a defence to that specific attack, but it cannot be done without losing some control of the centre. I would recommend setting up a solid centre, or breaking through on the queenside instead, which is just as effective but people always want to go for the king! All the best.
There are a few options but nothing too sharp. Just normal development really. What you are hoping for is Qb4, and then you can go into the trapping lines.
Most of the people I play with this trap can't even get past Nb5.

black played by computer made some dubious moves, but still, it was an interesting game, and I wanted to share it with you.

It is worth to note that black move after 9. Nb5 can be e5, that ruins trap plans and forces white to more aggressive attack.
Today I tried to play this scenario in Chessmaster mobile phone game on skilled level, and finally checkmated black.

After white knight f3 2:48
white does not have that much advantage, how does it continue. Black can play rook b8

At 1:34 instead of the knight moving to A6 cant black move his queen to A5?

Also, I call it the 'Halo-sTar' which sounds much cooler. Like an alien nuclear device or something.

One of my chess programs (2200 elo) doesn't 'understand' the position and keeps getting trapped.

what should white do is on move six black plays Qd2

Suppose on move six, after Be3, black plays Qg4 instead of Qb4. What is whites best response?

what if queen captures the knight on b5 instead of the bishop capturing the queen?
Heat0nMyFeet 2 years ago
Then bishop takes queen with check and white has a winning advantage. All the best,
