Love Kaiser and your videos, I've been watching them them closely in order to train my cat. I don't have a clicker though.
What I wanted to ask you: does Kaiser respond to voice commands, gestures, or both?
I'm asking because although I was able to teach 3 tricks in the last few weeks to my cat (give right, then left paw; stand up; spin), he only responds to the gestures I make and not the word.
@Yunituber Kaiser responds to both verbal cues and hand gestures.
Animals often respond better to hand signals at first when they learn a new trick. To teach your cat the verbal cue, say the word that you would like to use for the trick as you give him the hand gesture, and reward him with plenty of praise and treats when he performs the trick. Cats are very intelligent; he will catch on.
I'll follow your advice. Truth is my cat learns new tricks very quickly, and although I've been trying to reinforce them (because it's all very new for him) sometimes I do forget the verbal cue, since he responds to gestures. I'll keep the verbal cues in mind!
Kaiser is a true inspiration, please pet him and give him a treat for me. :)
I would love to hear about how you get him to perform these behaviors the first time. I don't really know much about training animals, but I've taught my kitty a couple simple tricks like "up" and "round and round" (what Kaiser calls "spin"), but initially these tricks have to involve me using a treat to bait him him (holding it over his head or spinning it around him) until he does it a few times. I'm not sure how I could communicate "stay" to him.
What treats do you use? My cats will not do anything for their normal food, because I guess it's boring since they eat it every day, and I can only give them three treats a day so its not very effective for training. I've tried breaking them into pieces but then my cats won't eat them for some reason. So if you know any inexpensive treats that aren't bad if you give them to many, can you please tell me?? Thank you!!
@redvines1010 I use many different rewards when teaching Kaiser, including chicken, ham, pepperoni, steak, and cheese. Use only the most rewarding foods when teaching your cat.
That's how you train the feline in your life. I find this is a good thing to do as this may also strengthen their bond with their owner and be a healthy workout as long there aren't to many treats involved. I approve.
My cat can do some tricks. Although do you have any tips for teaching "down"? He refuses to do that and he is highly trainable considering he is a cat :P Maybe be he can be somewhat as smart as Kaiser! (probably not) Keep up the tricks!
Ah! I LOVE Bengals! This is amazing. How much longer did it take for your cat to learn these tricks as opposed to your dog? Maybe I might try to clicker train my kitten!
@jeannette84xx Bengals typically have more energy than other cats, and usually have longer attention spans. This does make them easier to teach; however, any cat can learn the tricks shown in this video, given that they are taught only with positive reinforcement.
WOW! I thought I was doing ok getting a touch and sit cue for my cat! haha. I've worked with bengals with clicker training too. It was really fun! Wonderful video, I'll definitely refer back to it for cat trick ideas and showing others how trainable cats are with clicker training! Thanks for sharing your cat's talents with the world!
Trained a cat I had before clickers became popular. It is hard trying to be consequent enough, and this seems sooo much easier to just get the reinforcement exactly right. Next cat I get will definitively get clicker trained...
i was just wondering what is a clicker? you mentioned it in some other comment i read. I have a new kitten(well hes not that little) and i want to train him. also your cat is soo smart! and cute!
@13Icegirl A clicker is a small, plastic hand-held device that makes a sharp clicking sound when its metal tongue is pressed down (as heard in this video). The sound serves as a marker when training, meaning "That is correct; a reward is coming". An advantage to using a clicker rather than your voice (some trainers use the word "yes" instead) is that it produces the exact same noise each time. Animals usually catch on quickly, and soon enjoy trying to figure out how to make the "clicking" sound.
@lillykim17 I use a few different types of clickers when training Kai. Although I do most of his training with the use of the iClick, in this video I am using a Whistle Clicker. All of my clickers are from The Clicker Company.
I love Kaiser. He is so gorgeous, he is the one who inspired my love for Bengals. The work you two have done together is too amazing....awesome job Kai, keep learning!
@puertoricanboy100 Absolutely. Clicker training works very well with any animal of any age. In fact, most big cat trainers who train wild cats for film or circuses use clicker training, since it is very gentle and animals respond extremely well to it. One of the purposes of this video is to demonstrate that clicker training is the best way of training animals, and that even animals that are considered "untrainable", such as cats, respond well to it.
@NanaBorderCollie Ok i work for a The Science Park of Puerto Rico and iam a assistan to a trainer that passed away sadly they left a puma(cub) and i was i asked if i could take it home the thing is i dont know how to trains to baby cubs soo yeah hopefully your clicker works to teach them both
You must be the most amazing trainer ever! Your cat is smarter than my dog...(owners fault) haha, Is he an indoor cat? I've heard most bengal cats are not let outside because people try to steal them..? You should do some tutorials! :)
Yes, Kaiser is an indoor cat, although I will occasionally take him outside with me to do tricks or just to let him enjoy the fresh air. Keeping any cat outdoors is not safe for the reason you mentioned, and also since it increases the chances of them getting fleas, worms, ticks, etc., and the possibility of them getting hit by a car. Keeping cats indoors is safer, and it stengthens the bond between the owner and cat.
That was fantastic, I can't wait to see the tutorial, Kaiser is a very beautiful cat and clearly very very smart! You've done an excellent job, keep the fantastic videos coming! :)

What an amazing cat! My jaw was literally dropped the entire time! It's breath taking! I can't believe it! You're doing an EXCELLENT job, seriously! Ah, man, I'm at a loss for words! That's crazy! Defiantly watching for more, and sending this to my friends!
