    ☰ Great video! I love it! ☰

    And so sad.

  • There was a firebug 3kms from my house today. In belgrave-sherbrook. I'm in kallista so the fire was just down the road. I'm finally getting my fire scare... ahh i hate mt dandenong!!!

  • BCT071 is right. the electric power industry globally causes much of the CO2 that is making the weather more extreme, and the same industry is causing sparks through rusty obsolete power lines: The Royal Commission evidence STRONGLY suggests 120 deaths from power sparks (Beechworth+Kilmore East fires). If reliable press reports suggesting conductor clash at Murrindindi are EVENTUALLY confirmed, then the power industry death score will be ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY PEOPLE BURNED ALIVE. R.I.P. :-(

  • Just would like to express my opinion and to thought provoke.....

Man made climate change activists within the government departments are not only the saviours but the perpetrators of Black Saturday.

  • thanx so much to everyone for your continual support, the response has been amazing! now bushfire season is again upon us please take care & stay SAFE!!

  • its ok, i was apart of the bushfires, luckily the wind changed and my whole town and me were saved, it could save so many if the left instead of fighting the fires themselves, my friend almost dies doing it! good luck

  • the wind changed for me, my family and the town i live in...............it hit mary's vill instead

  • @frogga31 you were very lucky frogga31, how is it down in vic now? i bet the hot weather is bringing back a lot of memories! take care ok xjoeyx

  • They are now doing burning off in the Blue Mountains (not enough) but I still think this summer we will be awaiting for the firestorm.

  • terrible and tragic

  • thanx heaps for your support!! :)

  • New Zealand was so fckin saddened by this,

so many people where helping by donating money,

    thankfully this stopped

  • im an atheist , but it makes me wanna believe there is a god when you see racist white shit burned to a crisp.

  • mate as a firefighter, we are not racist and im quite sure if it was your house you'd want us to save it

  • I really hope that you start taking your meds again no one in their right mind would wish what happen to the people of the Yarra valley on anyone. You mate would be hiding in a little hole shitting yourself if you had been there! Most people I know that live in the Valley including myself are NOT racist but mate if you look in the mirror you will see a racist looking back at you!!!!

  • rajeshj,you are a repulsive "human being".

Those men and women are heros, and as an aussie we are all bloody proud of them.

  • Your a tough fucker hiding behind the net to make weak as piss statements like that. But thats what spineless pieces of shit like you do to make yourself feel like you have a spine. Tiny innocent babies and children burnt alive and you have the nerve to say that! Gutless!

  • rajeshj. I am a volunteer firefighter. I was there and fought those fires. I did it because other Aussies would do the same for me. I did not, do not care, what race, colour, creed, religion the people I am helping may be. Jam your racist crap where the sun don't shine! You're the racist! You're disgusting. I don't know if you live here in Australia but if you do, PISS OFF SOMEWHERE ELSE! YOU'RE NOT WELCOME UNTIL YOU ACCEPT EVERYONE EXCEPT RACIST CRAP LIKE YOURSELF!

  • what an awful thing to say.. and you say we are racist?

  • The bushfire is like a massive explosion happening at half speed. It is still quite fast, but you have time to get away from it if you're in a car or battle it with other fire fighters before it reaches largely populated cities or zones.

  • I live in Whittlesea and we seen this all unfolding and could do nothing at all, if that wind change had not come when it did i am sure the Whittlesea township would not be here today.

  • I so agree with U, Im in whittlesea aswell, crystal views, I took mykids my friends kids photos and cat and got the stuff out... with no one telling me too, I fully agree we are lucky but still affected majorly..

  • Hello

I thought I would add a little to this post. In answer to hoffman are the areas over the shock? I can only comment on my own town of Kinglake. The grass is growing, the trees are shooting suckers but a lot of areas are totally destroyed, animal life is almost nil and there is more domestic violence and alcoholism than should be tolerated.

Good tribute xjoeyxSydneyGirl but remember we had 2 fire trucks 12km apart for the first 4 hrs so our townsfolk were pretty amazing 2.

    Gilliwa

    Kinglake

  • thanx so much crglyn for your comments for my friend hoffmann9471 (peter) below! i got a flight down to melbourne recently & i could see the results of the fires, very scary!!! :) xoxo

  • Danke schoen for your nice reply.

    Ja, I thought so...

But that the state has the violence not under controle is not good.

    All the best

    Pardon for my bad english

    Pete

  • Ja, I see it second time today...

are the areas over the shock ? Life comes back ?

    And nature ?

  • thanx pete! ur a wonderful friend & crglyn as sent u an answer above!! thanx for your support! xjoeyx

  • This is really sad...

Anyone who sees this comment, please donate to the red cross bushfire appeal.

  • thanx Lachshmock, awesome comment & i put the link on the side bar too! as a result of this vid i know a lot of people that have donated! hugs from xjoeyx

  • nice work Joanna..

so often firefighters are unsung hero's

  • thanx michael....yes we had an open day yesterday @ our local fire station which i went down to help with...we went through 7 loafs of bread & a heap of snags! LJ & I had the good job of helping cut up all the onions! it was nice to help out & to help out with the community! i work in head office so nice to see some of the firies! xjoeyx

  • Cute litll Koala, Im only like 12 years old and me andmy mum went up to Marysfield... Unfortunatly because of the devastating fires you couldn't get in and there was a nearby farmers market nearby and all profits went to the fire appeal and salvation army and i bought a chocolate hamper which i gave to mum for $120 which was all i had. =D

  • hi sweety, i really appreciate u coming & commenting! ohhhh so sweet about the chocolate hamper, there should be more people like you around! hugs from xjoeyx

  • thanx sam, yes i felt so much for these people & still do! i just had a week in melb & i could see the burnt ground from the plane brought me to tears! xjoeyx

  • ): sad :(

  • yes......thanx so much for your support!!! xjoeyx

  • i fell sorry for everyone that went through that

  • thanx darrkrevenge...you wouldnt wish it upon your worse enemy! xjoeyx

  • ** UPDATE **

Thanx everyone that explained to bumba26, so many explanations were posted, it was wonderful. Like he said he dosn't know much about bushfires & i myself dont understand other disasters as much in other countries that we don't experience!

I AM SORRY I HAVNT APPROVED YOUR COMMENTS UNTIL NOW, SAD TIMES IN MY OWN LIFE, BUT MOVING ON!!!

    hugs from xjoeyx

  • we will NOT forget the terrible times that these people have gone through!!! i am sorry that i have not approved your comment until 2night! i have had a bit of a rough trot myself lately but nothing like these guys!!! hugs from xjoeyx

  • when r people gonna realize life is more important that material things? how fcuking stupid do u have to b to put urself and ur WHOLE family at risk to try to put out a fire yourself?????? These fires had been raging for ages, and people CHOSE to stay....if those people were Asian they would be the first out of there with their family and move into a temporary hotel in the CBD! As Kevin Rudd said its "ABSURD" people should die like that!

  • thanx anonpsycho88, i have realised myself lately that material things dont matter having had my husband walk out on me, it is the people around you that care & share your beautiful world!!! thanx for your opinions xjoeyx

  • Dear anonpsycho88. Unless you've been through it, it is hard to understand. You shouldn't judge so harshly. People are often caught by surprise.

  • ahhhhhh so true, so true!!! xjoeyx

  • I'm not sure if you are aware but the fires were on people's doorstep before they could even make a decision whether to stay or go. Previously people who stayed to defend their homes ussually managed to save them.

This fire didn't behave how fires Australians have expericenced in the past, have behaved.

people have to make a snap decision, many people send their children out of it seems they are at risk. don't judge, lot's of good people died.

can I suggest researching the topic a bit first?

  • the bushfires were only 20 minutes from my house, but we didnt feel a thing because the wind was blowing in the opposite direction.

As bad/selfish as this sounds, I shudder to think what would have happened if it blew the other way...

  • thanx MrsLayalSevani, take care & i hope u have taken some steps for safeguard yourself for the future, it is a very frightening thing! my dad was backburning one day on the farm where i grew up on & like u said a gust of wind came up & that was that!!! xjoeyx

  • Jmaniello, the problem isn't arsonists (fires can be started from lightning strikes too). It's the massive fuel load in the bush caused by years of neglect and Green policies of leaving fuel on the ground.

Bumba26, I've seen your comments elsewhere. Shakes head.

  • thanx bundarrahbabe, i think it is a combination of a lot of things! thanx...xjoeyx

  • This is how scary this stuff is..

THe first clip of the fire moving up the hill.

Thats 50 ft or bigger flames moving up a hill at 50-100kph or more.

My dad fought these fires and thier truck was not fast enough to keep up

  • thanx FiSHOwns! ooooh yeah! my dad fought a fire in northern nsw once for 3 days straight, terrible stuff!! xjoeyx

  • r.i.p for those who died and is that sam in the foto

  • thanx heaps sonofagun98! yes little sam is the hero of australia our little man! thanx for your support!! xjoeyx

  • Australian country, with a lot of shrubs and trees, is called the bush. Some towns are built in forested areas. Years of neglect caused by green philosophies have caused massive amounts of fuel on the ground to build up.

    These fires are a result.

My kids lost 7 school mates at Marysville.

    The greens are murderers.

  • thanx Jmaniello for all your comments, sorry i havnt approved them till now!! means a lot to me for you to write so many interesting thoughts!! all the best xjoeyx

  • how can a bushfire kill human beings....do Aussies live in a bush??

how hard can it be to stop a bush fire?? Strange incident...I have heard about cyclones, earthquakes even zombie infestations....but whats bushfire...??

I apologize for my ignorance...but an explanation will be really helpful.

  • Yes we live surrounded by bush in some areas, It is impossible to stop a bushfire that size, think about it if if you had a wall of flame 100 metres+ and may be even 50km wide heading towards you how would you stop it?, helicopters have little or no effect on the main front i wouldn't put men in front of it for the main reason they would get killed, there is just no way of stopping it, people die from trying to protect their houses or fleeing etc

  • Yes most people who live more than 20km's out side of big towns live in the bush, bushfires start in summer after weeks of 30+degreeC days and no rain add in strong winds and the fire can move at speeds up to 100kmh. Mainly the way people die is trying to save there home or fleeing to late and being over run by fire, In some cases the only way a fire can be put out is to let it burn out, there are cases where a normal fire truck can't knock the fire down there is just to much heat.

  • bumba you have made incredulous racist comments one after the after, showing a belligerent nationalistic pride based on ignorance and hate. You ask how the fires could kill humans, but the video here makes it very clear. What words can be used to create an explanation when you have typed 1000's of words full of hatred on various bushfires videos. Either you are incredibly stupid or just a trashy human incapable of empathy.

    I think the later.

  • as you can see that was fire racing up a mountain in the first clip. imagine how fast it was when it was on a flat surface. yeh there are a few people that live in the bush in victoria. and the fire was that ho and that fast you could not outrun it.

  • Comment removed

  • great comment emilyill.....i couldnt have said it myself better!! hugs from xjoeyx

  • A bushfire is the same as what you might know as a wildfire. Aussies call their woodland bushland or "the bush", so yes, many do live "in the bush". Fires start small, in long grass or leaf-litter. The causes of bushfires can be natural - such as lightning strikes or man-made - such as fires lit by arsonists, sometimes using accelerants such as petrol (gas). Man made bushfires can be accidental too - a poorly put out campfire, hot exhaust from a motorbike or four-wheel drive in long grass.

  • yea the bush surrounds the towns that worst affected, i didnt think a bushfire could be this devastating to human life either until this. Apparently people werent really warned fast enough, and when the tried to escape they were trapped, trapped by fires in all directions that came really fast. so they cudnt really get away. Very sad, it must be horrible to perish in a fire

  • where the bushfires happened there was a large expansion of bushland, and especially the houses with lots of bush around them copped it. its not that we live in the bush, just the amount of fires that were happening and how far these fires spread (over suburbs and suburbs) was extremely difficult to stop...

  • ok i will do my best ,,

On the day question we had very hi wind

coming in off the hot desert 110kph or 70mph .this with daytime temp over 110 deg 45f ,,we have suburbs out in what we call bushland scrub ,forest .some of these comunitys that live out in these tall timbered placers have homes that are not well built , using timber thats not suited ,but these fires were so hot that burnt brick homes aswell.creating there own wind the fires were so hot and fierce thay wiped out hole towns

  • The people that died in the fires tried to stay and save ther homes. They could not have prepared for what was coming there way. They all had a limit that when was reached, they would get in there cars and flee, but they had no idea the fires were so big. In some places the fires were 30 metres high and traveling at about 50kms an hour. Many people were found dead burnt in there cars as they were trying to escape. It was like NOTHING they had seen in the past. Hope this helps you understand.

  • Dear Bumba. Australia has been experiencing a drought for quite some time. As you will know most of our population is concentrated around the coast. The cities, suburbs and country towns are all heavily populated areas. In the country here, tourism, agriculture and quiet living draw people to the bush (forest). Due to the dryness of the land, a heatwave and that day (which was 46C with a humidy close to that of a desert) is one big recipe for fire. The wind then catches people by surprise.

  • Australian's refer to forrest's as "bush" hence the term bushfire. I dont know if you realized the images in this are still images, if you can open your mind a little and try to imagine very strong winds pushing the fire at speeds up to 90km/h, you may just be able to understand how people can die and do die from these fires.

Also i always seem to hear of stampede's and the like in your country, bumba26, how can these happen? wouldnt it be easier if people acted more restrained and civilized?

  • Yes, many people there live in houses on land where there is alot of forest and tall grass.

When the weather gets hot, the wood and grass gets very dry, perfect for fires.

And then when the wind starts blowing the flames, they can travel faster than you can run.

The world is getting hotter and hotter, there will be more of these I dare say.

  • in Australian there is a vast majority of area where people live that is surrounded by bush, maybe you would be more familiar with the term forrest? due to high winds in summer and the dry weather the fires are able to spread extremely fast and can change direction with the changing wind leaving people no time to get out

  • Hi Bumba26, bushfire means forest fire. The fires stopped 4 km from my house. Many of our friends died but we were saved by a change of wind direction. The wind was around 100 km per hour and the temperature 45 degrees. Nothing/no one could stop the fire except for the wind changing and fire turning back over itself. People in its path had no chance to escape and no hope.

  • see, the majority of the country is covered in tree's...so when a fire starts its very very hard to stop.

an area twice the size of belgium burned? now do you see why it was so hard?

  • we are surrounded by bush so its kinda hard to stop it when its 30000 kilometers long and spreading in like 3 seconds and maybe u should think aboute the animals 2 XxpeacexX

  • they are bushfires that cannot be stopped from human force.

  • the fire was going 100km/h

    you cant outrun that

  • Bushfire is another name for what would be called a brush fire in the US. Much of Australia's bushland is considered semi-arid, with dry grasses and scrub.

  • bumba26, that is a good question 2 ask.....i dont undertand much about earth quakes or cyclones because i have never experienced them! i know there are dozens & dozens of reply's for you! i hope this has helped & i DO apologise for not getting back 2 you sooner! lots of stuff happening in my own life! hugs from xjoeyx

  • Terrible...just terrible. Here in Britain at my college we had a 2 minutes silence for all those people killed in those bushfires...it's so awful that so many innocent lives perished in those fires.

  • oh that is so sweet!!! you guys in britain are family 2 us, prince william & harry gave a blessing on the relief concert the other night!! thanx heaps!! xjoeyx

  • No matter how much we rib on each other Britain always proves to a kind hearted country that we can count on in times of need.

I remember the impression they left on me when I was younger when the Ash Wednesday fires hit, and (I think) Britains donated more money than Aussies!

  • i fell sory for the people in those bushfires because they are inisent people and they cant do anything about it

  • how true, very true! just poor people trying to making a decent living!! hugs to you! xjoeyx

  • I AM GOING AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND SO KEEP POSTING YOUR COMMENTS, I WILL ENDEAVOUR TO APPROVE THEM ON MONDAY & REPLY, TILL THEN STAY SAFE!!! hugs from xjoeyx

  • 1.49 look at the smoke going out the windows GEEZ

  • that was very scary mightypies4eva!! terrible......imagine how hot it would have been!! xjoeyx

  • our skool has raised about 20,000$ our year lvl raised $5000 and another yr lvl raised $2,100 our skool principle sells drinks at every lunch for $2 ea and we hav had so many raffles and we r doin so much to help

  • that is just unreal stuf284!!! that is just awesome....my sons school has raised about 3k so far!! great comment, very proud of u!! xjoeyx

  • This is not fair, all those people and animals dying, all those houses being burnt to the ground, I hope ALL the Arsonists are caught, i hope they go to jail, and i hope they get murdered, THIS IS NOT FAIR,

  • You ever thought that maybe it's just so damn hot that anything could have set those fires off? You think that by sending a few blokes to jail you can counter the problem of climate change?

  • thanx for your comments Ragnarahwk, i know a lot of smaller fires were the result of embers flying in the air but there are some sicko's out there that do get a kick out of lighting fires & i dont think jail is the answer, i think i should be doing some hard yackka work & putting some work back into the community like been on a ball & chain like in the old days! thanx heaps xjoeyx

  • thanx matt50k, yes it is not fair! read my comment that i wrote after Ragnarahwk i dont think jail is the answer, let them pay for their arson by doing some hard work!! xjoeyx

  • Fuck Hard Work, Let them go to jail, let them get killed, its only fair for the crime they commited

  • Interesting thing about summer in Victoria 2008/2009, it was below average temperatures for the 3 months of summer, only 10 days over 35 and 5 days over 40.

Out of 3 months it's been a short but hot summer, don't believe the hype about man made climate change, there is more and more evidence the eco freaks are using disasters as an excuse to push there cause and to exstract our hard earned money out of us.

  • yes i agree it was such a short hot summer, the seasons do seem to be getting later & later to me! summer sort of only started in jan! take care & thanx for the comment MRMIL057! xjoeyx

  • My grandmother knows what its like to be in a bush fire she was in the dwellingup fires of the 60s i donated and my grandmother sends her sympathys. BREAKING NEWS PINK JUST DONATED A QUARTER OF A MILLION TO THE APPEAL

  • wow good on pink!! that is amazing.....i bet your grandmother has some frightening memories too!!! xjoeyx

  • thanx frithwks! hope u are safe & sound, take care! xjoeyx

  • well look on the bright side guys, it wont be too long until it starts getting cooler for you. i know i cant wait, im so sick of this cold bitter weather here. it was 70 degrees F today, on sunday its supposed to snow! WTF. the trees are even starting to bloom. theyre all going to die.

  • thanx elementskaterxl, wow i heard how cold it has been!!! see i have never lived where it snows, i would luv to see if you have any vids of the snow! take care & thanx for your support!! xjoeyx

  • hah yeah, i live in south carolina. its extremely humid and hot in the summer. in the winter its really mild, canadians come here all the time because they think its warm. im hoping they cancel school on monday. it hasnt snowed yet.

  • our school donated and we rasied over 6,000$ to the victorian bushfires !

  • THAT IS UNREAL pefret12, awesome......big hugs from xjoeyx

  • Comment removed

  • thanx soubithefirst, really appreciated!!! xjoeyx

  • Everyone be safe, 2morrow is going to be fucking hot

  • it has been hot then cooler but yes had gotten much hotter again in the past week! just be prepared.....also if you are outside dont 4get to wear a hat & sunblock in this hot country of ours, i had a friend die of skin cancer @ 41 recently! xjoeyx

  • i cant believe how the fires move so quickly, its like a tidal wave but...instead of water its fire

  • thanx metallicangelos, u can say that again!!!! great description....xjoeyx

  • It's so true, the bushfires in Victoria have left a great impact on many lives and familes around Australia, and even the World.

'Black Saturday' was a terrible day in our history, with 210 dead so far...

But thanks for making this video and deicating it to the firefighters who have done an amazing job!

Love and wishes from a fellow Victorian.

  • thanx SuperJohnny92! huge impact on all australian's & strong support from all over the world. terrible day @ the start of a hot, hot start of 2009! i just want to thank EVERYONE for your support in watching this video, posting nice comments to the firefighters & people of Victoria!! it touches my heart to listen to stories of survival & mateship!! also thanx everyone that have donated!! just watching RSPCA of the animals that were hurt as well....xjoeyx

  • It really is!

And with the drought and fire prediction getting more worse for the years ahead, it really is scary.

But it is these times which we Aussie's stick together!! Over 100 million dollars raised towards the bushfires and victims...its amazing!

And the animals that were injuried is so sad, too. All of them left so helpless...

  • way more than that I think

  • thanx watchitnz, i will let someone answer that for you!!! i dont think it got that far....xjoeyx

  • Did this fire make to the Dandelong hill?

  • Something of interest, most of summer has actually been below average temperatures so far.

I have to admit I do question the 46.3 dec (Melbourne city) and 47 dec (Avalon) temps recorded.....These temperatures were mentioned by BOM and blasted out by the media.

But I would like to know more, direct location?...was the monitoring device near concrete/road or in a park?

  • thanx MRMIL057, i feel personally that the summers seem to be getting later & later in the season, i didnt have 2 get my fan out to the middle of feb, & only had it on for about 3 weeks in that hot period! thanx for your support! all the best from xjoeyx

  • xjoeyxSydneyGirl ....nice to hear someone has common sense:-)

  • ahhhhh i think i am tired after work, i meant to say middle of jan or something like that as it isnt even the end of feb ahhhhhh u know what i mean, u get it, ur smart lol.....xjoeyx

  • your sweet xxx:-)

  • Well it was 45 here and Im next to the bay so to say 47 away from the water is understandable. The heat coming off the Mallee was unbelievable. I beleive the BOM temp readers are away from any source that can influence temps giving a bad reading.

  • Puckapunyal is pretty safe, tomstaizcool, it's several kms away from Beechworth. Good luck with your move!

  • Bugger That sux

  • sux big time!! thanx heaps man! xjoeyx

  • yeh my area is good now.. the wind blew it in a different direction but i feel sorry for those people :( some of my friends had to evacuate but none burnt down so its all good.

what a terrible way to start a year.. :(

  • My heart bleeds for all the victims of this horrific disaster. One feels so impotent when you see this sort of thing from the other side of the world. Despite the (good-natured) antipathy between the UK and Oz I haven't spoken to a single Pom who was anything but horrified. Aussies are a spunky, tough & resilient people who will get over this even if the scars take a while to heal. I can't do anything else but give you all my best wishes but it's a heart-full. Good on you.

  • Grredy exremist Greenies have destroyed Victoria with their lunatic policies.

Hang your heads in shame loony Greenies.

AUSTRALIA WILL NOT FORGET THE DAMAGE THE GREENIE POLICIES HAVE DONE TO VICTORIA.

    SHAME LABOR !

    SHAME GREENIES!

  • thanx honeyjen11...xjoeyx

  • couldnt agree more mate

  • The real problem is with ' hazard reduction', 'fuel reduction'. We have to blame the greens and the liberals for there disgraceful show of politics. However, it is unfair to say that Labor was not responsible as well. But it happened because of, lack of back burning. Legislation should be changed to allow fire fighter command to decide when and where to back burn. It should not be left up to anyone else.

  • thanx SledgeHammerABC1231, i do agree with backburning, they always say this will never happen again so hopefully new legislations will be put in place to rectify this ever happening again!! thanx for your comments! xjoeyx

  • the video of those flames travelling along that hell.. just plain scary.
