  • Nice and clean!! may ahve to get one!

  • @GlockPunisher1 do it! youll love the Mauser for sure.

  • The buttplate is supposed to be in the white (unblued) if you want to make the rifle look as it was originally issued. It should have a satin finish, not shiny or reflective. Nice cleanup work!

  • @DARIVSARCHITECTVS thanks. it was actually black when I got it from the store so I just touched it up. Ive seen photos of it both ways.

  • Some people would say not to restore a old rifle like yours.

I say thats horse krap, would you let a old classic car get rusty and not fix it up..no!

    Your rifle looks great!!

  • @1joshjosh1 thanks, my thoughts exactly.

  • I have a real from ww2 nazi issued mozer check my vids to see

  • @Noobkiller259 cool man, mines real too so not sure what you're trying to imply by that. mine has swastikas and everything.

  • Next time use Easy-Off oven cleaner insted of crub cutter to de-grease the stock than rinse it in hot water than let it dry. if still greasy repeat process. use a tooth brush to work Easy-Off into noocks and cranneys. Happy shooting.

  • @dantheman7624 thanks for the advice. the crud cutter has worked more than fine for me though on 2 occasions and im very very happy with it.

  • wow this thing is beautiful!

  • @Sauerbutsweet1 thank you, it shoots as good as it looks.

  • @ericzanutto wow.....that means it shoots pretty good haha, i would buy that thing in less then a heart beat but ik that after all the work you wont sell it =) neither would i! lol

  • im a german and i LOL at how yu say Gustloff Werke :DD

  • @TheBierJunkie thats understandable since I have no German language experience...I am part German though. its ok though, I LOL at pretty much everything Germans try to say in English.

  • @ericzanutto every german kid learns english in school since 3. class so i think you only have spoken with older guys ?

  • @TheBierJunkie I honestly can say I have never met a person from Germany who can speak perfect English without an accent (young or old). I'm not saying their English isn't good, and I'm not saying I could learn German any better, but they definitely have an accent and usually incorrect grammer...but then again, lots of people in the US do too.

  • Nicely done,looks awsome.

  • @reddevilparatrooper thank you, it shoots great too.

  • @ericzanutto I love my mosins, got two of them. The one is an original condition (never been refinished and has that red shellac finish), when I first bought it, I didn't know and put about 400 rounds through it before I realized it was a non-refurb. After that I bought a tula hex that was refinished (blonde looking stock)...a German mauser is on my purchase list.

  • @Alexn1067 youll lover the Mauser. I still shoot my PE sniper Mosin more though.

  • I wonder how many lives took this mauser.

  • what did you pay what did you pay what did you pay i want too^^

  • @DevilD51 about $400+fees and taxes for this Russian capture

  • Sanding restaining Rebluing TOutching its original Cosmetic features Distroys teh valus why dident you just leave it alone now its worth half teh value it was

  • @odin5150 like i already said below..."this is a Russian capture. it was basterdized by the Russians years ago when they stripped them down and mismatched all the parts, removed the capture screws, sight hood, and sling, and then put them back together. im lucky enough that mine has a clean bore and the swastikas intact but it was far from "original" the day the Russians got their hands on it. all i did to this rifle was clean the cosmolean off the gun, including the stock, continued..."

  • @odin5150 "continued...an refinish the stock. all i wanted to do was get this gun in a state where it wasnt all greasy. dont know about you but i dont like the feel of a greasy gun all over my hands and face. also, as far as i know theres no WWII milspec that says anything about covering a gun in cosmolean besides maybe to store it. no one would have ever fired a gun like that, it would have collected dirt."

  • @ericzanutto Dont get me wrong man i know what you mean about it being greesy but thats just to store it i woulda taken it clean the piss outta it with Hops #9 Cleaning Rod and some time in a afternoon you coulda got that out i mean I DO HAVE A MILL SPECK WW2 GERMAN MAUSER and it was fired by my great great great whatever the hell great grandfather lol and broght back then passed down a few generations cleaning it i understand but rebluing No good and restaining No good I have a video on my ch

  • @odin5150 I agree with that if you have a real nice Mauser that has matching numbers and was brought back by your family in WWII. mine however is an RC and was purchased from Big 5 sporting goods. theres really not too many great things about it besides the intact swastikas so im not too worried about it.

  • @ericzanutto just wanted to say gun collect dirt anyway pluse personaly i think they look better origonal

  • @MrTheree not my guns, I clean them after every use...new or old, corrosive or not. if you dont clean them they will get dirty. my K98 wasnt dirty, it was covered with cosmolean and gross. shooting these rifles with the cosmolean in them will cause the cosmolean to harden up over time and get real nasty. all I did was get rid of all the old nasty cosmolean. the staining matches the original stain. if i had a nice matching # wwII mauser i wouldnt refinish the wood.

  • @odin5150 Most collectors keep theirs in safe and don't even shoot after the first day it was purchased. Myself I do use RC for target shooting and overall enjoyment of the history and brand and the country that manufactured. continue...

  • @odin5150 . I don't see why you can't,bring the weapon up to par with what you like to see.Being RC the value is already dropped whether you clean the Russian varnish schlack off or not, and doesn't hurt the value of it. RC value 18 years ago was about $50- 70. now they go about $300-400 .

  • whats the circle thing on the stock?

  • @16kinyo its a metal bushing type insert which is used as a tool to take apart the bolt. you push the firing pin down into it and compress the spring. then you can unscrew the bolt. ive heard rumors they also used to use this as a hole to lock up all the rifles through the stock...dont know how accurate that last one is.

  • @ericzanutto thanks

  • That looks close to my German Mauser. Nice gun and nice work. great vid. RH DSD

  • @DIOSpeedDemon thankyou, its a great german machine and a great piece of history.

  • @ericzanutto CHECK OUT my Mauser that has not been touched since it was brought back from Germany in 44" by my Uncle. Great guns and great German engineering. RH DSD

  • @DIOSpeedDemon cool, i will check it out. sounds like a nice rifle.

  • is it still for sale?

  • @uscgkid109 I have no intensions of ever selling this rifle...I'm not sure if big 5 still sells the german mausers, I've only seen the yogo mausers there recently.

  • The difference between Mauser K98, and "K98 A" ??

I think A is a special, shorter version, and the standard k98 is the WH/ SS rifle mostly used. Correct me if wrong. Need the info fast.

    Regards!

  • @Whysomeonegotmynick what youre saying sounds correct from the research I did awhile back but im really not 100% sure on that. im sure someone else will chime in and correct us both.

  • @Whysomeonegotmynick

The story of a Mauser rifle is quite long, it starts in 1860s-70s.

But the Mauser 98 family line started with G98 in 1898 when it was adopted as standard German infantry rifle. Then a shortened version of it was created for cavalry and support units, this developed into K98a in 1908. Both rifles served well in WW1. Interwar period then created another version - K98b. From this the final K98k was created in 1935 and accepted for newly made Wehrmacht as a standard rifle.

  • @Whysomeonegotmynick the k98a was a ww1 german gun shorter than the gewehr 98, in the video is the k98k.

  • How much for it?

  • @Garrett18777 $400 for the rifle, another $30 for refinishing supplies, $40 in add ons, then you have tax, dros, and a rifle bag...about $550 or so.

  • Where did you find the sight hood @?

  • @dfxjedi i linked a video above which explains where i bought all the stuff i added to this rifle. I also listed the website in that video.

  • sanding and redoing the finish hurts the value doesnt it

  • @xxuncexx not sure. I paid $400 for it which is a reasonable price for a russian capture german mauser. I got lucky and mine still has the swastikas in tact. I didn't really sand the wood. Just removed the old cosmolean stained varnish and restained/ sealed the wood. Cosmolean makes these guns real sticky and no fun to shoot. I'm not too worried about the value of this gun since #1, its a russian capture, and #2, I plan on keeping it in my family forever. I love this rifle, its awesome.

  • @ericzanutto yeah i was gonna say as long as you werent planning on reselling than nothing to worry about and you have as you say a better finish =)

  • You've got yourself a beautiful rifle mate. I want it. Where'd you get it from?

  • @jfkdjfd thank you, I bought it from a store over here called Big 5 Sporting Goods...thats also where I got my Mosin from too. Big 5 gets quite a few old rifles in their stores which are usually in pretty good shape but covered in cosmolean and with mismatched serial numbers. usually theyre at a fair price though for what youre getting. this rifle shoots awesome and is incredibly accurate.

  • Thanks mate. Would you recommend Mitchell's Muasers? All i hear is bad reviews from them, so i kinda need help. I'm also waiting to lurk at my local gun show in a week.

  • @jfkdjfd no problem. personally, i dont know much about Mitchell's Mausers but like you i havent heard great things. ive heard that their Mausers are usually in pretty good shape if you want a good shooting, purpose built, Mauser, but they have forced matched serial numbers. my Mauser is a Russian capture (good history right there) with swastikas in tact (very lucky). most of the serial numbers arent matching and if you look at my pre cleanup vid it was very dirty. but, i like my RC.

  • @jfkdjfd I like my RC because even though its not matched at least i know the russians were the ones who did this and they did it to keep old rifles in their arsenal. Mitchells Mausers on the other hand often defaces their rifles to make them match. if you could get a good un-forced matched rifle from them then id say go for it. do you have a big 5 where you live? ive heard gander mtn carries them too. good luck, let me know what you find. youll love the Mausers, they are soooo accurate.

  • There are no Big 5's near me. Only Gander Mtn. I'll have to check them out, but thanks for the help. Enjoy your rifle.

  • @jfkdjfd Some of there k98s arent even k98s there m48s that they put fake numbers on to look like a k98.

    DONT BUY FROM THEM!

  • Do not fix up old originale weapons ! :(

Buy a replica if you want a good as new

  • @TheSkarsbo first off, this is a Russian capture. it was basterdized by the Russian many years ago when they stripped these things down and mismatched all the parts, removed the capture screws, sight hood, and sling, and then put them back together. im lucky enough that mine has a clean bore and the swastikas intact but it was far from "original" the day the Russians got their hands on it. all i did to this rifle was clean the cosmolean off the gun, including the stock, continued...

  • @TheSkarsbo continued...an refinish the stock. never said i wanted as good as new and i have no idea what replicas youre refering too. all i wanted to do was get this gun in a state where it wasnt all greasy. dont know about you but i dont like the feel of a greasy gun all over my hands and face. also, as far as i know theres no WWII milspec that says anything about covering a gun in cospolean besides maybe to store it. no one would have ever fired a gun like that, it would have collected dirt.

  • @TheSkarsbo look at my "before" clean up video and youll see just how little work i did to this thing.

  • @TheSkarsbo Who are you to tell people what to do with their money anyway.

  • they have em on sale at big 5 for 350 i think should i get one..do they have nazi markings...good to add to collect.

  • @kp7100 i bought mine from Big 5 for $400 a month ago with Nazi markings intact and a stock in relatively good shape compared to some of the other ones i saw there. the barrel on mine also has little to no pitting (cant see any at all). even with iron sites i can get ver yvery close to a bucket size target at 450 yds and hit pretty much everything at 100yds. its a real awesome gun and i needed one to go with my 1925 Mosin M91/30 to complete my enemy at the gates collection. so yes, go get one!

  • @ericzanutto went today to big 5 they had two but no swasticas on them just the german egale on em, they looked really great cond. gonna look at two more big5s tomorrow but if no swasticas then i will make my choice and buy one. ps is it hard to install apture screws and sight hood?

  • @kp7100 it took me some searching to finally find one. i actually waited on my 10 day DROS, came i and saw they had another one on the rack, it had the swastikas, and they were kind enough to let me exchange the one i had originally got for the one with the swastikas. similar thing happened when i got my 91/30. i got a 1940s round receiver, came back and they had a 1925 hex, score! either way theyre great guns and id still get one if youre looking for a great gun to shoot.

  • @kp7100 the capture screw are easy to install, the sight hood is a real pain. youll need to pick up a pair of reverse operating pliers (expand instead of squeeze). check out this site for the accessories youll need. landser(dot)com/mauser. they also have some nice german flags if you wanna wrap your gun in one of those before storing.

  • Does it have matching serials? Do u think I should get one at Big 5s? Any German markings?

  • @pccchurch the barrel and receiver have matching #s but nothing else does. it does have all the german markings in place, including the swastikas, and does not have any capture markings but im pretty sure it still is a russian capture. its in great shape but was the pick of the litter out of the other ones i saw at big 5. th eother ones i saw were way torn up on the stocks and didnt have swastikas intact. this thing shoots awesome, even at 450 yds with iron sites. get one ASAP!!!

  • @pccchurch btw, the first one i got from Big 5 had Nazi markings crossed out...so not, not all the russian captures will have them intact. you need to make sure yours does if thats what you want. you will also need to buy a sling, sight hood, capture screws, and a cleaning rod for a restoration like mine.

  • I've thought about redoing my stock, just to get a slightly nicer, refined look...I would probably do a similar stain, but maybe use Formby's tung oil instead...I dunno though, what you got looks really nice!
