Why are people talking trash about the motor? I never had a kayak, but it seems like a cool idea so that you can fish WHILE you are moving. I bet it would be hard to hold a rod, cast , and work a bait while paddling? People look for reasons to talk trash.
Free energy is finaly here! But the Oil companies want these technologies unknown to the masses,Get a motor that needs no gas or electric input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Free yourself!
I talked to Minn Kota and they informed me they suggested a 100amp/hr type 27 battery for the 33lb thurst motor, the battery in the video looks like a type24 and the battery hold looks like it would only fit that type, a type27 would be a tight fit at best. This means lower run time, less thrust in windy choppy conditions. Nice overall design, a bit pricey though.
So what would be the range with thing? From what I tell from comments and such, about 10 miles out, 10 miles back with maybe a little extra to spare???
It seems like for saltwater fishing you might want an extra battery on board just for trolling.
@Crubber well some fanny humpers can forget bungs on boats so they may forget the line to the jacket. should be permanently attached to the life jacket so when you get the jacket on it's ready to do its thing, ya know
I live in San Francisco bay in Alameda an island with currents. How long will this kayak run at full speed with a 180# person on board? Is this a powered boat now needing registration tags and insurance added to it yearly?
I would like to know the amp/hour of this battery plus how long it will run at full speed with a 180# operator? I live in San Francisco bay on the island of Alameda 1 1/2 miles wide by 5 miles long with bay tide currents hence running at full speed and the battery life at full speed in time. Second question will this change the kayak to a power boat needing CF registration tags like a power boat, tags and insurance added to it each year?
nice set up,except i dont like motors under the boat, vertical lift is the way check out a home built kayak that can still operate with the motor above the bottom of the boat ,also you should take back what about you said about 2 by 4 builders i built mine with no wood 4 -$850.oo and it will out do any factory electric kayak made if you dont believe it lets ger a review thanks aaawink
I actually got to do a demo of this boat and the prop on this thing barely sticks out. I tooks this in to shallow water and had no issues. I just motored straight to the beach at the end of the demo, turned off the motor and glided in right up onto the sand. It's a slick design for sure.
The Native Mariner and the Hobie Angler have almost got it right just get the motors out of the cockpit. I'm trying to fish and having a that in front of you doesnt fishing that any easier. Keep trying manufacturers you'll get it right eventually.
Nifty Idea how they mounted it but if your back hatch has stuff in it and you head into shallow water your forced to remove it all just to pull the motor out to get into skinny water. I'd much rather just tilt it forward like a normal outboard. The kayak companies really see the need for the trolling motor setups but have yet to hit the right setup.
Unfortunately it'll end up being a rich mans toy and selling for well over $1600. Why bother when you can build your own kit and I don't mean using a 2x4 either. My trolling motor setup cost me $200 and My native Ultimate cost me $1000. Thats $1200 for Trolling motor powered kayak.
I have the same setup on my Hobie. 35 ah battery with a 30 lbs thrust motor. I got 5 hours out of it with power to spare. The setup in this video should get much more run time than mine due to the fact that their battery appears to be larger, and they have a PWM as their throttle control. Much better energy use.

@PARKERTE of course because a kayak and a boat produce the same amount of water resistance

13' 10" long with a capacity of 350-400 lbs with battery and motor.

Interesting. What are the rest of the specs of the yak and carrying capacity with the motor and battery in place?
