The protest in London today that was apparently centralized around this event and other events like or worse than this was appauling. not a mature and respectful way to get your message across. while the message against poilce brutality is true londons youth portrayed themselves in poor manner and i am embaressed to be a 19 year old male in this city. The deployment and use of the taser was justified, the head shot was a bit much unless proven it was unintentional. Police don't have time to play 50 questions in the middle of a fight, they have to de-escalate the situation before getting the facts. Would anyone else here get in the middle of that? This "victum" had a belt wrapped around his hand, and was violently swinging a chair. Buddy takes the chair from him. As the cop arrives, he was moving towards other bystanders with a WEAPON IN HIS HAND. He drops the belt (weapon) right as he is tasered.
At about 0:18 he moves forward toward the cop. Though I think the cop should have probably tried to talk him down, buddy had it coming for moving toward a cop with a taser pointed at him. @Scratchmakerdude you must not know anything about how a taser works, while yes it has an output of 50,000 volts, its not voltage which will kill you, its the amperage, a taser puts out less then 1amp. I've been tasered, (part of certification for being able to use one) it's not a big deal, it sucks, yes, it's 5 seconds where you're stiff as a board and can't move, then it's over. The better shape your in, the faster you can recover from the daze that it'll put you in. The kid deserved it.

An appropriate use of force against a youth that you can CLEARLY see was swinging a metal chair at another youth where he could have taken out an eye very easily. The male who was struck by the Conducted energy weapon was clearly seen to strike the male in the white top with a weapon. The officer entered the scene immediately afterwards and likely saw this. Any use of force trainer would place the male's behavior on the continuum at "combative" (federal system) or "assaultive" (Ontario model). Well there was no need for the kid to get tased because A: a trained cop should be expected to identify a situation and react to it, the first of which he did not do, and B: someone should have made the fight fair before the cop got there by taking the chair away. A taser yes has 50 thousand volts, but its not the voltage that will kill you, it's the Amperage, a Taser gives out less than one amp. First of all I am sure the guy in the white asked the guy in the black to stop.
Second, Guy in the black shirt totally deserved to get tazed. He started the fight and I only saw the guy in the white defending himself. The cop obviously saw this happening out of frame because he runs up. He should have tazed that dumbshit in the blue who stepped to him as well. That entire crowd went up to the cop like they were ready to fight. Justified the punk got what he deserved!

The deployment and use of the taser was justified, the head shot was a bit much unless proven it was unintentional. Police don't have time to play 50 questions in the middle of a fight, they have to de-escalate the situation before getting the facts. Would anyone else here get in the middle of that? What about the possibility of one or more of them being armed with a lethal weapon? Verbal warnings...debatable, those kids may or may not have known police were there.

This "victum" had a belt wrapped around his hand, and was violently swinging a chair. Buddy takes the chair from him. As the cop arrives, he was moving towards other bystanders with a WEAPON IN HIS HAND. He drops the belt (weapon) right as he is tasered.

@Scratchmakerdude you must not know anything about how a taser works, while yes it has an output of 50,000 volts, its not voltage which will kill you, its the amperage, a taser puts out less then 1amp. I've been tasered, (part of certification for being able to use one) it's not a big deal, it sucks, yes, it's 5 seconds where you're stiff as a board and can't move, then it's over. The better shape your in, the faster you can recover from the daze that it'll put you in. The kid deserved it.

@Scratchmakerdude also the cop didn't intentionally launch at the head, the police are taught not to aim for the head even when using lethal force, the reason? the torso is a much bigger target, meaning greater chance to hit, the kid dropped into a low stance suddenly, so what would have connected to hit chest hit his head. People are blowing this out of proportion, the kid had a weapon (well 2) he deserved to be tasered to diffuse the situation. Take a law class instead of being ignorant.

An appropriate use of force against a youth that you can CLEARLY see was swinging a metal chair at another youth where he could have taken out an eye very easily. The male who was struck by the Conducted energy weapon was clearly seen to strike the male in the white top with a weapon. The officer entered the scene immediately afterwards and likely saw this. Any use of force trainer would place the male's behavior on the continuum at "combative" (federal system) or "assaultive" (Ontario model). A "taser" is one of the permitted force options for this category of behavior. Another option would have been a baton strike to the arm or leg. Both are appropriat

The cop performed the most effective and safest end to the violence by paralyzing the violent attacker. He's a young kid so hes stupid and he had his posse around him cheering him on until he went down. Then they cried for their fallen villain. He's lucky the officer didn't tazer him in the groin. Well there was no need for the kid to get tased because A: a trained cop should be expected to identify a situation and react to it, the first of which he did not do, and B: someone should have made the fight fair before the cop got there by taking the chair away. @adept754 I see a weapon used to commit an assault, which means the kid is in violation of criminal law, if you want to have a fight, it needs to be within the confines of the law, meaning, no weapons, both people consenting, and stopping before any serious injury, perhaps if people our age (I assume your a teen) acted like an adult and not a damn thug, there wouldn't be so many issues.
I hope the crown goes after this kid on criminal charges, bet he'd think twice about a fight after jail time.

The kid was attacking the other kid, you cannot be defending yourself when you go after the other person when they are covering their head. A taser yes has 50 thousand volts, but its not the voltage that will kill you, it's the Amperage, a Taser gives out less than one amp. You can just as easily die from struggling with the cops as with a taser.

Also there was nothing racial about this, the kid had a weapon, the kid looked to be combative, (as based on the lower stance and hands in a ready position) so the cop made the correct choice to taser the kid to resolve the situation without further injury. A cop doesn't have to tell you to stop fighting before using force. He clearly saw the guy in the black as the aggressor and tazed him to diffuse the situation fast...which he apparently did. If you notice the guy in black turned and made a couple of moves towards the cop, yet another reason to taze the guy. Assault with a weapon is not a minor offense. The other kids were clearly trying to walk away when the kid started swinging the chair. The officer saw that and made the right call. The officer has no obligation to yell "stop" when there is an assault with a weapon in progress, that's just ridiculous.

In the video, one guy is clearly bashing the other guy pretty hard, while the dude in the white top is trying to defend himself. I dunno what happened before the video started... but it looks like the guy who got tazed was hardcore attacking the other dude. If it was my son or daughter being attacked like that, I'd call the cop a hero. Just sayin...

The officer responded in a way that quickly defused the situation and he made the decision to use his taser over his service weapon without any hesitation. If that had been some of the lower States, that kid would of had a hole in his body, and his family would likely be planning his funeral right now.

I think that with the situation at hand, the officer reacted quickly and properly. I know that if it was my kid, I would say the same things at first, but after seeing the video over and over, there were too many factors against the officers safety, and besides, after a few hours, the kids going to be fine other than a few extra pin holes.

The kid deserved it. You have fight going on,... an active, ongoing CRIMINAL ASSAULT! But before tasers police use wooden batons. Would that have been better? A nice baton swing to the elbow to break an arm? Perhaps a swift swing into the ribs to snap a couply of them? Or just one good crack to the head to cause a concussion or skull fracture?
Moral of the story is if you don't want to get tased, don't engage in violent criminal acts,... end of story.

What was the cop supposed to do? If he'd tackled him people would be making a big stink about that, too. The officer put an immediate end to the fight. The kid moved towards the police officer, didn't have his hands up - he got tased. The lesson is, don't get in street brawls.

When someone is smashing you in the head with a metal chair and you are worried about losing your sight or worse, and a cop tasers the person smashing you in the head, then I think that you would think differently.

From this video, it looks like the guy who was shot was the aggressor and using a chair(weapon) when the officer appraoched. But the fact that using the taser is obviously his first choice is rather upsetting.
