maybe you can help i got a ford focus 2006 and the alternator well took it out and had it checked at aouto zone not a fan had trouble with these guys well any way was not good so i bought a new put it in worked for about a week and doing the same thing again bat light came on do u think the alternator went out or going out remember this id aouto zone stuff i was reading on line that autozone parts u might have to change them out untill u get a good one
when field testing, is it neccessary to plug in the 4 pin adapter to the voltage regulator, or do you leave it unplugged and test as described, I left mine unplugged and read 18Volts when I bypassed the voltage regulator, is this the correct way to test,or do I need to re-test?
Point stressed is I'm tired of rocking out with a hd 12 vt battery = 7+\- vts and no headlights, let alone music after a smooth distant drive,,, around the block,,, and reviewing my new copper grill as dentures, which I caught with my teeth,,,,, not hard to do, only spitting 1,209 rpms, going 7.9375 mph.
1964 Triumph Spitfire IV 4 banger that has a generator/volt reg. Being a car written for, probably over 60 years, i feel safe knowing that the weazel 25 amp the gen was controlled by weazel II, didnt know there was a 100w amp under the Christmas tree, let alone, the Lady Gaga vibrator.
Point is, i cant find proper specs for the 3 tower volt reg points, to increase the v/amp output, so i want to replace both toothless fairy's with a manly Alt. Say maybe 100 amp
@moparerrnocar 5 months ago, whew ! Anyway, if you go to the Dixie Electric website, they have an electronic e-catalog with all the pics. WAI Global also gives details about all the vehicles you mention. Funny how newer Ford alternators have a brush holder similar to the CS130d units.
I go to Metroplex Alternator and starter in Arlington,Texas they specialize in repairing and rebuilding alternators and have reasonable pricing. The guy that owns the shop is a retired GM employee and he really knows his stuff.
This is a great video but seriously isn't it just easier to buy a new one and have a mechanic put it in? i mean soldered leads, bad bridges, rectifiers.. I would get electrocuted if I tried any of what you did.. I will definitely get my alternator done in the shop.. i have a 99 vw cabrio and my alternator started making a bad sound somewhat similar to this but even worse.. so the sound went on for a day, then the battery light came on. oy vay, what next? my car is a $ vacuum.
Sure it's easier to buy a brand new car every time you have trouble but not everyone can afford a new car all the time. Some people need to save the money or they don't trust mechanics or rebuilt alternators. This gives people more knowledge to understand what is going on. You said it all when you said your vehicle is a $ vacuum. When you fix your own vehicle your making per hour what your mechanic charges. My neighbor has a garage & charges $65.00 per hour, I know some charge more.
@utubin67 yeah it's easier but who wants someone else touching your vehicle? I sure don't, especially when most of the time I know more about it than they do. Not everyone is mechanically inclined, this video is for those who are.
Why do the factory service manuals tell you to test the diodes with a multimeter, they read good with the mutlimeters, but aren't good, or they give indeterminate results, because the little .2 amp 9 volt battery in the multimeter isn't sufficient to test those big industrial diodes. So how do you know if a multimeter can test something like that or not? some have diode functions, but still aren't suitable for testing something like car alternators.
I love how car manufacturers change all these parts every year just enough so they are not interchangable, there's absolutely no difference in functionality, so you can't find parts or they can charge you alot for them.
I would be a bit reluctant to test the coil by 'sparking' the terminals as shown in this video. Especially so since there's also electronic control circuitry (regulator) connected to the brush terminal. I don't think semiconductor components like being 'sparked'.
Yes, you can interchange the 244 with the 130D, but you have to change the belt because the geometry is different. Changing the alternator pulley won't help.
so when can we get a vid on a total repair of a AD244??

What was the life expectancy of the CS130 D alternator, if not tampered with?
Certainly they would not have installed them if they were substandard.

Can you eliminate the pcm from the alternator on a dr244 like put 12vdc to the fields and let it work stand alone?
