Hitler diverted 1/3 of the Air forces, and 50% of the follow-on Divisions for Citadel to Italy, many equipped with the new King Tigers. Don't make it sound so dramatic. Ukraine chose to be part of unified Russia several centuries ago. Eastern Ukraine is still very pro-Russian. The Western part which at various times was part of Poland or other powers not so much so.
