  • Great idea for a budget PC, but I wouldn't dare play any games at 1024x768. I have to play at least 1280x1024, partly for personal preference, but mostly because I don't have a monitor small enough for that. :P

  • slaveknight, you do know throwing tires at it is the best way to kill hunters right? hunters are most vulnerable to blunt trauma(such as getting them hit by a car).

  • Valve buy part of the code (like one of those engines that you buy for a lot of money) they modified it a lot and that's how GoldSrc appears the in 1998 they start creating HL2 with the GoldSrc modifing part of the code and with the years it's looking more like what we see on HL2....

    Gabe Newell says that in the Source 2007 stills part of the original code from Quake

  • @slaveknight No, you'll still be using DirectX 9. Vista has DX10, but only games utilizing it will require so. Ep2 is not one of them.

  • @slaveknight Ep2 does utilize some abilities found in DX10 hardware (as i've heard), but the game itself does not make any use of the DX10 API, and is in fact a DX9 game.

Worms reloaded (just released): Dx9 Alien Swarm: DX9 Swarm Arena: DX9 Mass Effect 1 & 2: DX9 Far Cry 2: DX 10 Crysis: Dx10 DiRT 2: DX9 & 11 Metro 2033: DX9 & 11 KNL2 - Dog Days: Dx9 Mafia II: DX9 COD: MW 1 & 2: DX9 I could keep going, but I think you're seeing where this is going.. Not all new games use either 10 or 11. Most games are still using 9.

  • @lilHamminator I'm crossing my fingers on some OpenGL action instead. They've had tesselation for longer than DX11 has existed, but it hasn't really been used. (Yes, I know the Source Engine isn't really fond of OpenGL, but it's running on the Mac now, so that's some HUGE progress there! I'm hoping for stuff like that in the current Source engine though, or the Portal 2 Source Engine)

  • Well, it was alot funner manipulating time then using that shitty gravity gun, besides, they just ripped that concept from the ARM idea in the game Trespasser, i mean, ffs, they were inspired to put physics in Half Life 2 from trespasser.

  • Yes but trespasser = unsuccessful. Half Life 2 = Extremely successful and won multiple awards PLUS is one of the biggest community modding games.

  • Source is based off Q3. The original Half Life engine. Then valve created its own version using q3 as a base.

  • Yea i know that.They should do something like they did with l4d,and kinda use that engine in hl2 to improve graphics.

  • No... Quake 3 (and quake, quake 2, etc) had god, noclip, all those commands. Source was made for quake to fix the models, renders and how it was all read. The commands were kept (they got a licensing deal from idsoftware).
