  • If Octavius is still reading this thread, I think that there's a massive distinction between judo and BJJ. Having done both I can say that they focus on different aspects of the game. Modern Judo is now more adapted to competition whereas BJJ is still relatively raw and although wins can be achieved by points the name of the game is to put your opponent in a situation where they can "finish" a fight. I stand to be corrected but my understanding is that BJJ, as opposed to the JJ where Judo was w

  • im guessing thats a gracie? which one is it?

  • @bjapan96 Rodrigo Gracie.

  • I can't armbar for shit!!!

  • very good instructions!! i practiced on my gf tonight so i can arm bar my opponent next thursday night. thank you for a great video and confidence boost!!!

  • @spindler1987 Practicing on your GF..

  • Really good instruction. Thanks for sharing.

  • Who is this instructor?

  • looks like rodrigo gracie

  • FUCK YOU OCTAVIOUS SHITER , wtf did you nou stipid americans always talk , but no accion , Latinoamerica have the best figthers of world , ooohh they do bjj ,

muay thai and bjj are the most efective martial arts of all time , put you uchi shittty mata in your ass you fucking karateca looser

  • ur a faggggggggggg

  • "muay thai and bjj are the most efective martial arts of all time" - innermage

They've had good success in MMA situations. Respect where it's due but no more than that.

  • call it gay all u want... but when you get into a fight against a jiu jitsu practitioner... lol i wish you all the luck in the world...

  • are you sure? then why Saku beat the shit out of 5 of them? There is no such thing as BJJ this is Judo Newaza, the same exact techniques, the only thing that changes are the names. The gracies stole the beautifull art of Judo, and turn it into the marketing move of the century.

  • not stole... perfected them... and i dont know what you are talking about Saku beating 5 of who??? what im saying is that bjj was taken from a judo master... bjj is a martial art like judo with moves that keep evolutionizing... the art is always changing... that is bjj

  • perfected them? evolutionizing? the jiuji gatame is exactly the way it was a thousand years ago. How thid the gracies perfectioned it? It's exactly the same. BJJ doesn't exist. This is judo newaza. Period.

  • According to you there is no judo, just classic jujutsu. A move or two does not an art makes--taekwondo, karate, kickboxing all have straight punches but they are not same art.

Hint: when was the last time you saw a high-level judo tournament decided by juji gatame? Judo rules have changed to the point where newaza is largely irrelevant.

  • Who's talking about Judo tournaments ASSHOLE? Judo is a grappling art with Throws, takedowns, and GROUND GAME. It doesn't matter if it's irrelevant or not, what matters here is that the gracies stole the moves from Judo and claim that they invented everything. They just change the names of the moves and made the marketing move of the century.

Come on I challenge everyone here to show me ONE, only one move that was invented by the gracies, and is not part of the Kodokan curriculum. Come on!

  • Yes, nothing will get you taken seriously like calling other person asshole (all caps, no less). No wonder people refer to Youtube commentators as Internet scums.

I wasn't aware inventing moves was required to create a new art. Why don't you first show me a single move invented by Kano that did not exist already in classic Japanese Jujutsu? It is the philosophy and focus that makes a new art, not a "new move." And you can't deny in modern judo all newaza is practically extinct.

  • Ouri Eri jimme, Uchi Mata, Tai Otoshi, and Harai Goshi are just an example of many of the throws that Jigoro Kano Sensei developed through the years ASSHOLE :P

  • Are you telling me classic jujutsu schools did not have those throws before Kano? Be serious. Are you also saying without those throws, judo would be just jujutsu? I really doubt that.

Again, moves are not what makes an art. Boxing is not kickboxing without kicks, Freestyle and Greco-roman are distinct even if their moves are nearly identical. It's the philosophy and focus. bjj believes ground game is more important than take-downs, which is exactly the opposite of what Kodokan believes.

  • all those throws were in jj styles which kano or his senior students had studied. The success of kodokan judo was in the importance given to randori .

  • bjj is very heavily influenced by early twentieth century judo groundwork, which isnt what modern judo is like. The brazilians further developed newaza way beyond what judo had by concentrating on that aspect to the detriment of tachiwaza. The aim of bjj was defence against a striking opponent which judo never adressed at all.I can think of many bjj techs not on kodokan syllabus and not in kosen judo either.

  • since when was beating the shit out of each other gay? god i hate homophobes. they are the ones that are actually gay on the inside but just afraid to think about it because it might tempt them to come out.

  • I have been a white belt in BJJ for the past 4 months. Everyday I go to class I get put in arm bars by blue belts :'( EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'( Pleas eteach me how to escape and put them in arm bars. I really want to know how to do it from the gaurd postiton, since I am always in either the garud or I am fully mounted :'(

  • go to the channel submissions101 they'll show you

  • be patient... all about time on the mat, it will come..

  • How come you have been training for 4 months and you don't know how to put an armbar from the guard, or escape from it?

Your dojo must be pretty shity dude

  • I know a few escapes from the gaurd actually.. I have even given a few arm bars at my gym.. but I basically get submitted strictly from arm bars only :( I actually know alot and very good at a few more advanced techniques like the gogo, omaplata etc. But my weak spot is the arm bar. My BJJ instructor is the very best in my major city, hands down. Other dojo's dont even come close.

  • very good teacher,

it looks easy, but requires a lot of practice

    good vids

  • Whatever dude. This is a great arm bar set up in response to two things.

    1. The elbow escape attempt (the foot in the belly stops the knee from coming through).

    2. When the bottom guy turns away from a key lock attempt, essentially isolating the arm for you.

I pull this version much more often as few people when mounted just lie there nice and still for you.

P.S. This set up is good to know, because other people know it too...they react to avoid it, and it's a great way to take the back

  • You're an idiot.

That is one of my favourite attacks.

  • love the accent haha good video

  • Rodgrio is a cool mothafuka.

  • Great vid.. Do you have a website where you have free vids?

  • Great Instruction! Keep 'em comin
