As someone from the UK (where we have tighter gun laws and a duty to retreat) I do agree with the US idea that, if some group of guys decides to break in in the middle of the night, they should count themselves lucky not to get shot; because it all happens in seconds in the dark and the consequences can swing so drastically.
But Joe, he didn't even know those neighbours. And the police were going to turn up abut 60 seconds later. I think he was looking for an excuse to do that personally.

Mr. Horn called 911 to ask authorities to respond to a burglary in progress, but when policy failed to arrive in time, he went outside and shot. He did faced no bodily threat whatsoever & used deadly force. Without question, he is guilty of murder, probably 2nd degree. The problem is that without a right to shoot bad guys in the act, what recourse is there to defend property being stolen? People don't "freeze" just because they are ordered to do so; That's just TV nonsense.
